What opposing power do you most want to see in able hands?
Which country in Classic that you are not playing do you most hope is in the hands of someone with a reasonably good sense of the overall map dynamics, unit abilities and the way various provinces and powers relate to one another?

Germany

My list:
1. Germany. The traffic cop of the Great European Highway. Very important in checking both R and F ambitions, and the home territory of Munich, which is Mister Eighteen in any number of solo scenarios. Common mistakes include overly trusting E/F/both and (my favorite) attempting to solo as a 6 SC power in 1903.

2. Italy. Not a power all love to play, but Italy is very important to how things play out in France and the whole Med theater. Also has a big say in both Tun and Mun.

3. Russia. A great Russia can be the conductor of both the western and eastern theaters. A decent Russia talks to at least three other powers subtantively and watches events closely two or three provinces away from his or her own.

4. Austria. On the Great European Highway, but staring down a semis from the get-go.

5/6. England/Turkey. These powers can get stopped cold early due to alliances of convenience even when played by really good players. Even very new players can have a lot of influence on the board as 3-4 SC T or Es once they figure out the basics of naval orders.

7. France. Has the best chance of surviving some early missteps, hard to kill off, and plays a big role in board flow even if reduced to not much more than MAO.
Austria if I'm Italy. Italy if I'm Austria.

Russia. A Russia who has no idea what he's doing can create more chaos on the board than any other power. Though Germany is a close second for the same reason.

Conversely an Italy or Austria who has no clue what to do will usually be eliminated quite quickly and thus do little damage.

An England or a Turkey who is learning the game will probably survive longer than Austria or Italy, but will also have little impact beyond their immediate borders, and thus is also not really a concern.

An inexperienced France can go either way. Usually France's way forward, particularly at the beginning is pretty clear. But given it's position on the board a sufficiently determined idiot or newbie can still wreak a respectable amount of havoc.
Russia for me is the key. A weak Russian player simply implodes and creates a vacuum and absolute havoc. You see this mad scramble for his SCs so england and turkey and germany can all come to blows over what are essentially very small gains. I like to play with a strong Russia.

A pity it turned out as it did.

It was poised interestingly, although I suspect it was mostly "Let's kill the non-voting people". The I/R/T scramble was fun. Given Germany's latest push into Venice, I feel Russia would have come out on top of Turkey unless Germany built armies and sent them east (unlikely)

Faster Than The Speed of Light.
Some breaking news yesterday from CERN that subatomic particles seem to have beaten the speed of light. Very exciting and, although CERN wants the results checked again before publishing, such an extraordinary claim that I thought I'd bring it to attention here on the forum.

Player probably needed in 3 hrs: 7 SC Austria, full press WTA, 17 buy-in
gameID=66749

A player is three hours away from CDing. The power is Austria with 7 SCs and 6 units, in a kingmaker/drawmaker position. Considerable growth potential and diplomatic opportunities.

Não é preciso ser falante nativo, basta um domínio operacional básico, alguns jogadores estão inclusive participando para treinar o português como língua estrangeira.
Senha: falamos.

Donor Status
Question- I have a bronze donor symbol by my name. Is this fair within the game? Does it help my play, grant me "serious player" status so my word gets respected? Or make me a target instead?

I know that I look for that symbol in every game I am now entering. I treat others different when I see it. Is this part of the "spirit" of Diplomacy?

Low Pot, High GR, Fun Game.
I'm thinking a 20-50 D pot, with 7 reasonably high GR-rated players for a classic, full press, 36hr, password game.

I would like to see some old faces and welcome new ones too.
Anyone interested?

Question about automatic disband for cd nations...
http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=66827

This last turn I expected cyrene and libyan sea to disband, according to the rules for automatic disband for cd nations.... Libyan sea, cyrene and marmarica are all 1 movement from egypts home supply centers... cyrene and libyan sea come before marmarica in the alphabet... is this a mistake or is there something i'm missing...?

Rule Change for the Forums
I have a suggestion. Why dont the Mods make a rule that bans obscene comments in the forums and bans anyone who makes one or at least fines them. THis will allow the people who want to use the forums for their intended, appropriate, use.
