What do you plan to accomplish with this?

If they are banned why worry about? They are already gone from this site.

It seems pointless beyond to let the players directly affected by them that they have been dealt with and that they should disregard any of the finished games involving the banned.

I'm not sure if it would have much a deterrent effect.

I think it would be nice if the people in active games with the banned got e-mailed or PM'ed (not sure if that happens or not), but other than that, I don't think there's a point to it.

I'm torn, because on one hand I'd like to know if someone with whom I've played before got banned to validate any suspicions I may have had regarding that someone... but on the other hand, having finished as many games as I have, I'm not sure that I'd even be able to remember the person most of the time. =P

i could care less. everyone i played with that was banned i beat. let em die. although i think they should also be removed from the ghost-rating list. there was this guy who was (and still might be there) ahead of me in position who was a multi. ticked me off.

They will eventually fall of the ghost rating list due to inactivity

@yebellz that may be true but im sure hes still there for the all-time list. i havent checked it recently, but lets hope so.

I, personally, think that we shouldn't give recognition to those punished. It is done in private and while it may be nice to know someone got banned if you are playing with them, a quick CD without any NMR is a good sign that the player was banned.

Well, if you're in an active game with them, you are notified in Global that they were banned.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing as abgemacht. I've been in a few games with multis, and an automatic message gets posted in the global chat. Look for black text.

I'd say it should exist on a corner of the site... there's already a Hall of Fame page, so a list of banned accounts (or better yet, log of Mods activity) seems to have a place.

What'd be really nice is a way to search my previous games to see which ones had banned accounts in them... but that's asking alot of the volunteers who keep this site up and running.

I say lets make a freinds page, so that way you can friend people and see if they are online so you can play with them :)

I don't like that diplomacy on facebook, the phases are too long, you can't look back at history and everything is all screwed up compared to this diplomacy place. Just saying.

very true playbake, the php diplomacy on facebook is stupid. but if we were to find a way to get our friends added here, then I believe we could organize strong games etc. I don't know :)

Kind of a side question...on vdip, I'm in two games where someone got banned, and the reason I know this is that I got the global message on one...

Forgot the question. Is there a way to make that message appear on no press games?

lol. community there is terribad by comparison (soooo many whiny bitches, and grown men whiny bitches too, which is pathetic, 40-year-olds crying about a web game) and the quality of play is so fundamentally awful compared to here that I actually do worse over there because what should be standard practice (and is over here) is totally foreign over there.

for example, I played as Turkey in one game, very polite and courteous, and had polite Italy and Austria and stick-in-the-mud Russia. I ended up attacking Russia first and allying with Austria, who was competent, and in the process of that alliance stabbed Italy, who had unsuccessfully attacked France. Italy promptly suicided on me even though his position was defensible, without even trying to negotiate with me, giving literally every center he had to France. I stabbed Austria while this was going on and killed him, and had Austria + Turkey + Balkans + Sevastopol (11 centers).

meanwhile France had 14 because he allied with England and England let him take Belgium, Holland, and the German home centers -- add the Italian centers, and that's 14 --

and everyone decided I was a douche because I stabbed my neighbors and threw the game to France. even though, you know, I never stabbed Russia (he attacked me first, took Sev in course of battle), and my stab of Austria ended with me literally taking over all of him (i.e. good stab). I suspect England never intended to stab France at all.

plus, in another game as Italy, I singlehandedly conquered Austria and stabbed Turkey very well, got to about 12 centers and was the runaway solo threat. no one stabbed me, no one tried to stop the solo.

and half the people never talk to anyone, and half of the ones that do talk are morons (I have, on multiple occasions, been asked "what is lepanto," "what is bounce" and "what is dmz"), and half of the ones that talk and aren't morons have preconceived notions about how to play the game and don't negotiate equally with all neighbors.

the people over there just suck. obnoxious and whiny in general, and fundamentally bankrupt, the vast majority of them just play for fun, I think, and treat it like a family game of chutes and ladders -- and they HATE the people that actually play to win.

For the most part I'm inclined to agree with Eden... in a recent game there I played with a France who told me he always sides with England over Germany if possible. Luckily I was England. We definitely had some reasonable players in that game; before that I had *never* drawn on facebook-- but I soloed five times; at least one of those was a definite 17-center stalemate that one of the minor players threw to me for fear of being cut out of the draw (couldn't have happened safely-- needless to say I did not object)
