Where was the ad broadcast?
One of the things on political correctness that really annoys me is when people hear about something they disapprove of, watch/listen to it, then get offended and kick off a fuss.
Classic example here in the UK were the Ross/Brand comments. True they were inappropriate, but the issue only became so big because the media got hold of it. Before then comparitively few people had heard the clip, but now many more have - people who would probably be offended by most of the content.

The ad was broadcast in Australian when during the time Australia was playing the West Indians in cricket. KFC was the principle sponsor of both teams.

The fact it's suggested that the clip is racist is ridiculous.
Are adds where cockneys ask for 10 sugars in their tea and talk in rhyming racist?

As an Australian I find it impossible to find the ad racist. When I was growing up the West Indian cricket team were absolute legends in this country. To me the ad is about friendly sporting rivalry, and the idea that kfc brings people together.

We do have a cheese called coon. It's my favourite brand of cheese. The brand was created in 1935 and its named after E. W. Coon, the inventor of a method of maturing cheese.

I do see the humour value though, unintentional as it is. But I don't think it is racist.

Is there an Australian stereotype that West Indians like chicken? Because otherwise, I'd be hard-pressed to see it as racist. (I'm a Yank, btw)

Most Australians (99.99%) have never heard of the stereo-type that people of sub-Saharan genetic origin have a fondness for friend chicken. As far as I am aware it is a stereo-type that only exists in America and is relates to African-Americans (not West Indians).

Why do you think the guy in the ad feels awkward? Is it because their black? Or is it because he a fan of the Australian cricket team caught amongst the fans the other team? (As in it could have been an Australian fan sitting with the barmy army (english cricket fans).

as for the racist thing, 99% of these things is the media desperately trying for a story to feed the 24hr news cycle, you can always find some idiot who disagrees with something.

yes i have heard of the stereotype, im assuming he feels awkward because hes in the middle of opposing teams fans its just a bad choice of advert givern the stereotypes, eg it would have been fine if he was sitting in the middle of the barmy army, or a different product was used like burgers, or crisps etc just chicken in my oppinion was a bad choice.

Sean the thing about Coon cheese is the packaging. I realize that you have been living overseas for a while now, but you may not realize... coon cheese packaging comes in asnap log bag. No need to wrap the cheese in cling-wrap.
