Well done, Xapi. It's nice to see some enforcement. Out of curiosity, did you encounter this player personally in a game or was he brought to your attention by others?

It's amazing the lengths to which this guy went to make each name dissimilar to the others. He used different ethnic names, punctuation, capitalization, etc. to prevent any visible commonality. Desperate and sad.

I would just like to point out that I am The General and not thegeneral. I know I'm not a big name on this site, but just in case anyone has played with me before, I wanted to make sure they know I was not cheating... and considering that I most likely lost/survived, I would have been the worst cheater ever.

Using Kestas' system I was able to find links to the rest of the accounts.

I'd like to pick up on flashman's point about anonymous games. Will it be obvious in anonymous games that a player has been banned and hasn't simply NMRed?

Well, he'd be in CD before he looses any phases, so that should give you an idea.

Also, the players in anon games are revealed after the game is over, so if you have doubts about a past game, you can check it out just fine.

I don't see any inconvenience that one person has more than one accounts. But it is another thing if he/she uses more than one(and less than seven) accounts in one game with other player(s）。

Zhang, if someone isn't going to use more than one account in a game, why would they have more than one account in the first place? One person using 7 accounts in a game by themselves is just an unfair method of boosting stats.

If someday I am not happy with my current name ZhangFang and want to register a much cooler new name, such as huge_ant, to_get_her (together), or I merely want to start a new life here, couldn't I do that? (of course, I will abandon my first account after i get my second)

No, the terms require one account I believe. I did as you said, had another name but changed it to this one. I emailed Kestas my intent and have not logged into the other account since. I do not understand why you would want 2 accounts though.

ZhangFang. The restriction is in place to prevent you from restarting your stats and to eliminate the temptation to play both in the same game. You may not have two accounts. If the mods find out you do, they normally make you choose one and they then ban the other. Do it repeatedly and you get banned entirely.

@Draugnar, what is the point in preventing you from restarting your stats? It isn't what I did, only had one game on my other account but am curious as to why that shouldn't be available. Say you've been playing for 3 years and have hundreds of games, you wanted to get rid of that account and see more accurate statistics for how your current skills are ranked without your first games affecting current skill level. There are people who played this for a long time live and probably other sites and have a "stat" advantage to people like me who started here. (Not that I plan to do this, just a curiosity)

It's just been frowned upon as it prevents someone from having a horrendous record and a reputation in the community from "starting over." I wouldn't have a problem with it, but I've heard from others that they want to know the person's history and think a reputation should follow them for the rest of their WebDiplomacy lives.

If done to improve stats, I will pick the account with worse stats.

Sounds cruel. A jail sentence will vanish from the official records in ten years but a defeat in Diplomacy will follow for the rest of your life. I'd better avoid it then! ;)

@JECE - I know you put the smiley, but it doesn't bother me either way. I live with my reputation. I can be an asshole, but I'm good with it.
