Players with no centers remaining during build turn
I've been noticing that players who have had all of their centers taken in the previous year count as still existing during build turn; this is creating a few problems apart from the obvious delaying of the next turn. encountered this problem?

Witch Hunt
Do you fellow Diplomacy players feel that all these multi accounting accusations are creating a sort of Salem Style Witch Hunt? Or are all these accusations really valid? Have we crossed some sort of line here accusing too many innocent people? Should the admin's be more strict on banning accounts? What rules constitute 'legal' multi accounting versus 'illegal' multi accounting?

Playing in games with friends
What should the rules be? From the moderators perspective it's difficult to distinguish between friends playing in games together and multi-accounting, but there aren't any actual rules on friends playing in games together and this is a valid complaint from people who get banned for playing with friends.

Making a rule against pre-determined alliances is impossible to enforce, so how should this be handled?

If I click on any of the links on the home page I receive the message:

I can log on with my old computer fine: they both work through the same router. And I do log out on the old one before trying on my new one.

Methax and his many accounts?
Can someone please look into the possibility that Methax is a multi-accounter? He along with Effward and Drekon have played exactly four games, all of them together, two of which ended in a draw. I suspect Nxdevera and Notoriety, at least, are also part of this (possibly one or more others). Log in times are right in line.

Methax (190 D)
12 Oct 08 UTC
Err look at my two finished games, they both ended in everyone drawing. Why would I multi a bunch of accounts then end in a draw? I don't care for diplomacy points. I will be sure to contact everyone and organize a schedule of when they can log in so we aren't falsely accused of multi-accounting. By the way, everyone in our game attacked you and Germany because of you guys had the highest points, mad because you lost your precious points :(?

Only post multi-accounter accusations if it's very convincing
MJT123 (738 D(S))
12 Oct 08 UTC
This is pretty blatant, actually. Outside of the aaa, bbb, etc. guy, not sure what would be more convincing. I don't care about the points (and I'm not actually in a bad position in the game I am in this guy with - at least, if it's true that he ISN'T on multiple accounts - as there's no strategic reason that Effward would have to work against me instead of against Methax/Drekon if he isn't them.

As far the draw game - there were two games with mostly the same people, most of whom (if not all) registered on the same day. And then drew the game after 1 year. Twice. If that isnt one guy just screwing around, what other reasonable explanation is there?
Maica (145 D)
12 Oct 08 UTC
maybe the game drawn in the 1st year was because England didnt move. Actually makes it so that if you start with a CD player or NMR player you just draw and try again.
MJT123 (738 D(S))
12 Oct 08 UTC
That would be fine if it were just that one game. You have to look at all four games together, however.
Archonix (246 D)

I did raise the concern a while back, it does look very suspicous. They did say they were in the same class - Methax and Notoriety are apparently a couple. Is at least meta-gaming if not multi-accounting.
Notoriety (230 D)
12 Oct 08 UTC
Our England player in our first game didn't move, so we remade and found someone else, who later told us he didn't want to play anymore. I really hope that this new game goes through.
Tetra0 (1448 D)

you have to admit that it's pretty rare for italy or austria to open against germay. but it's downright insane that austria, italy, russia, france, and england would all open against germany.

Maybe I'm a little biased since I'm germany, but I honestly don't think that would ever been seen in a game that's on the level
Notoriety (230 D)
12 Oct 08 UTC
Also note that Grown 2 made it to Autumn 1903, which is at least a little better than what you made it sound like:

"As far the draw game - there were two games with mostly the same people, most of whom (if not all) registered on the same day. And then drew the game after 1 year. Twice."

Do you deny that all of you working against Germany know each other?

"Methax and Notoriety are apparently a couple. Is at least meta-gaming if not multi-accounting."

I have a problem with this logic, since I play with my wife occasionally (on a different site). That doesn't mean we always ally - in fact, we tend *not* to ally, because she chortles in an extremely annoying manner whenever she stabs me...
Archonix (246 D)
12 Oct 08 UTC
Didn't they all turn on Germany? In this case since they seem to be good friends and working together beyond reason I think its meta-gaming.

I would be quite annoyed if I was in that game and lost immediately because there was a pre-conceived alliance. I'm under the impression thats what is going on here.
effward (100 D)

"Do you deny that all of you working against Germany know each other?"

I do deny this, I only know 2 of the 4 people attacking Germany.
effward (100 D)
12 Oct 08 UTC
Also, I think it is FAR to early for you to be accusing us of meta-gaming. It has only been 2 turns, there is still plenty of time for us to back stab each other, you (Tetra0) are just angry that we all attacked you in the first turn.

We did not go into the game planning an alliance, but when we randomed three adjacent countries we agreed to start out attacking Germany.
MJT123 (738 D(S))
12 Oct 08 UTC
...because you all knew each other. That is certainly meta-gaming. While it isn't clearly against the rules like having multiple accounts, it has the exact same effect on everyone else you're playing with - it removes the point from the game
Notoriety (230 D)
12 Oct 08 UTC
So J3ny and Luke are also metagaming?
MJT123 (738 D(S))
12 Oct 08 UTC
No. There's nothing weird about England and France working together against Germany. They are working together n that one game based upon their position, not based upon who the other player is. (as far as I can tell). They aren't in multiple games together, allying because they know the other person.
Notoriety (230 D)
12 Oct 08 UTC
I agree with effward. It's only been 2 turns, so you don't know if allying to the end was their intention or not. If you had accused them after they wiped off everyone else before deciding to draw, it might have been more convincing, but they certainly won't do that now that they've seen this thread. In a way, with the current situation we'll never know what their intentions were, but as it stands, even two countries not accused of metagaming have teamed up on Germany, which in my opinion makes the "highest point" reasoning seem more plausible.
Tetra0 (1448 D)
12 Oct 08 UTC
I agree that it's not unusual for england and france to attack germany together. but It's really bad form to pull a stunt like that between three friends. especially because under normal circumstances, italy and austria would probably be comitting suicide with those openings

Just some other input. I am new to Diplomacy. Ive been paying about 1 year. I've been on this site about 3 months. I play because I enjoy the game, and have had my share of sneaky ugly stabs and complete wipeouts. There seems to be alot of distraction about this 'multigaming' multi account thing. I have to agree that I really don't understand why someone would multi-account, unless they just hate to lose or want to get a bunch on points for one of the accounts. To me the points don't matter since you get them back if you go broke. So I just play the game, if I get wiped, just move on to the next game, remember those names that seem to be underhanded and don't play in those games. Anyway, it is just a game, and I know that there are varying levels of seriousness about it, but to me why get all heagted about this. Especailly in this case where it seems people have been falsely accused. Any my nickle.

That's the spirit TrueHeart. People get the impression from forum posts that multi accounting is a rampant plague, but it really doesn't affect too many games.

Late Game Expertise
One of my friends who I play with outside of the internet had a question he wanted me to ask that I couldn't really answer for him. He is an excellent early game strategist. He always does well through 3-4 years and then after that he really struggles. He was wondering if anyone had any tips for later in the game. Thanks
