Supporting a hold on a unit ordered to move
as an insurance policy so to speak. If I'm trying to move, but get blocked by another unsupported movebut see the possibility of a 2 on 1 against my current position, can I support a hold on it so that he wont get disloged in the case of a 2 on 1 attack?

My opinion is that the support hold order should be ignored if the piece is trying to move.

does a Double supported supporter require a supported move to break support?
I want Naples. I have fleets in Ionian and Tyrr. Naples has support from Rome, and is giving support to rome, and rome has additional support from Tus.

So to be clear, here are the defenders orders:
Nap SH @ Rom
Rom SH @ Nap
Tus SH @ Rom

My question is, since Rome is doubly supported, does a single attack break his support of Naples? or does it take a supported move into Rome to break the support to Naples?

In other words here are the attacking orders:
Ven Move to Rom (intent is to break support)
Ion Move to Nap (intent is to capture)
Tyr SM to Nap From Ion.

Will it succeed?

Glitch?
In game id 5355, all my orders seem to have beenconverted to holds. I'm almost completely sure that I finalized on time, but I could be wrong. Is there any way to confirm what the adjudicator recieved or some other way of checking to see what really happened?
This doesn't really matter that much, of course, but had the orders that I thought I placed gone through, I would have captured two sc's. If it's too much of a hassle or not possible, then nevermind. Thanks!

Question re game maps (small versus large link)
Is it possible that the small map does not reflect all the orders given?

If you refer to game 5495 (d'Artagnan-2), the small map does NOT reflect the support coming from Trieste for the unit in Budapest. The large map (correctly) does.

The history is reflected correctly (showing that support was given) and the game was adjudicated correctly (the support was instrumental in Russia holding onto Budapest).

Police Raid, RNC and the bone in his penis...
One for Pandora...
flashman (2274 D(G))

No Pandora, wrong again, and dishonest too...

1) a single "missed" comma would not have rescued your comment about babies marching in that demo. It was clearly intended as an emotive image to bias opinion regarding the RNC and surrounding events. You are also attempting to use your presence there as a way of legitimising what you say. In fact though you are guilty of the same distortion you accuse so much of the professional press of. That is hypocrisy.

2) your slip into a jibe about being retarded is not indicative of someone who cares about humanity: it is a disgraceful route to take. I notice that you did not even bother to reply when I pulled you up for it.

Those, together with your boastfulness and self-justification for your behaviour leave me feeling no sympathy whatsoever for or with your cause.

The penis bit...

In reading your comments, I was reminded of a rather famous incident some years ago (before you were born, we had really violent demos in those days). The organisers blamed the Police for everything and even accused them of dragging protesters away for torture. There was a live tv session where some of the leaders of the demonstrators were given the chance to tell their side of the story. It started with the usual tit-for-tat accusations: the Police estimated a crowd of 15,000, the Mob said there were more than 50,000; the Police showed pictures of Officers with head wounds, blood streaming; the Mob gave eye-witness accounts of Police brutality. You could choose to believe whichever side you wanted until one of the Mob gave graphic details of a young man pulled away from the crowd, beaten by the Police and tortured, beaten and cut down to the bone in his penis and left urinating uncontrollably through the mashed pulp.

The audience were clearly gripped by the revelation of just how vicious and animal like their Police could be, until the bone... Then they laughed as one. Hilarious stuff.

Babies marching? You said it girl and you said it because you thought it would have an effect. Well, you got the wrong one from me.

That shot of the flower girl getting hit with the mace?
http://www.indybay.org/uploads/2008/09/01/pepper.mpg

Thats good stuff. I'd bet there were verbal warnings for her to move. It wasn't just that she was walking up to a cop, but to a cop trying to deploy. The cops were moving, and she was interfering with their movements. She was lucky she got maced and not charged with interfering with a police operation.

What the hell did she expect to happen? A grateful cop would take off his helmet, smell the flower and say 'yes you are right, I want to be a protester, not a cop'. You can argue whether the cops were justified or not, what you can't argue with is that she's stupid.
Archonix (246 D)

Completely true. She shouldn't have walked towards them them to give them a flower while they were clearly going to force them out of the area, it was stupid. It doesn't stop the police's action from being brutal though either.

I do think that this entire discussion is getting a bit too personal though. Pandora of course has her anti-ruler bias and that should be taken into account when analyzing what she offers - but it wasn't so out of line that it merited n attack alongside an anecdote either :P
again, I'd bet she got several warnings. so at that point, its arrest her or physically remove her. i'm sure people would wine eiither way.

Although I generally agree, it's not necessarily "stupidity" that drove this young woman to offer the cop a flower. She knew there would be video cameras on her and she was doing what so many people in these protests do--provoking a reaction. Well, she got it, and WHAT a reaction! Now she has grounds to say that the cop used unnecessary force (which is true) even though she must have fully expected it. A very shrewd media whore whose purpose is to manipulate.
i disagree it was unnecessary or excessive
Sicarius (673 D)

we all have our different views of that particular incident. I'm sure she was warned, and none of us can pretend to know her motivations.
yes me and pandora are admittedly very biased against the police, but the fact that police stepped over the line is not disputable.
take everything I say with a grain of salt, but still listen. do your own research, please!

Treefarn (6094 D)

how is it not disputable??? i dispute it.
flashman (2274 D(G))
07 Sep 08 UTC
Well Sic, for someone who preaches that the ends justifies the means, Pandora doesn't have a leg to stand on when she gets taken to task for her pronouncements.

Furthermore, she lied repeatedly and used the term 'retarded' because I challenged her view of events. I can take the personal stuff, but she needs to address the ease with which she slipped into that insult. It says a lot about her mindset, and not much on the credit side when it comes to caring about other people.

Indeed, she comes across as somewhat bitter and twisted most of the time. I prefer people with the ideals to build a new world not destroy the only one we have.
flashman (2274 D(G))
07 Sep 08 UTC
Oh, and I also dispute it (with Treefarn...), there is a lack of impartiality in the reporting here.

After all, as Sic and Pandora like to point out, what we see from the media is clearly not the whole truth... I'd like to know what the girl did leading up to the event (Mace) and whether she had posted on forums before hand that she fully intended to get herself arrested or the like and whether she will now try to boast in the same way that she was successful and use this as evidence of the evil nature of the Police, the system and the universe.

"She's life JIm, but not as we know it..."

Treefarn (6094 D)
08 Sep 08 UTC
Even if she did nothing than what we saw on the tape, I still would dispute it. The police presumably asked her to move (as the prosecution has granted), and she did not. At that point, she is interfering with a police action, and must be forcibly removed. She would need to be arrested or physically disabled. I think mace was a step up from clubbing her, and as a tax payer, I am glad they didn't clog up the jails and courts with her. So I dispute that "police stepped over the line ". Frankly, its a very amateurish tactic in a debate to state opinions as facts, such as 'there can be no disputing that....' That sounds like a talking head from Fox News.

Defeating your own unit- possible?
What happens if I hold with one of my unit, and then move to that territory with a second unit, which is supported by a third?
Will the lost the fight and be forced to retreat, or it is just not possible and the move order will not succeed?

Question re what if you updated orders but failed to finalize them>
If you've updated your orders but for some reason failed to finalize them prior to the clock running out, what happens? Are the update orders executed or does the system revert to 'hold's for all units?

I believe it takes two seasons with no submission of orders to constitute civil disorder. Would the above (updating but not finalizing orders) constitute the first season towards civil disorder?

Suggestions?
Hey!

This is my first time setting up on php Dip, and because I can draw fresh impressions of it I had a suggestion or two. Sorry if these have already been put forward...

1- It would be great if those nice little colored tabs that display your games and if you have mail came up on every screen once you're logged in.

2- It would also be wonderful if the game clock was more prominently displayed.

I love the interface so far! thanks!

retreats and adjustments in Fall
I am new to the system,
when there are retreats in the Fall on this system,
do you get to see where the retreats went before you build/remove?
are retreats posted?
It seems in my game A3 England has a retreat out of Holland but the game is calling for my builds and does not show if the English fleet was ordered off the board (OTB) or
what. I am not sure if this is a bug or my own ignorance of where to look other than the history for where the retreat was ordered.

Multi-accounting?
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4989 (The Borgias)

Ekabar has taken over Russia - a more or less hopeless cause. After a closer look at him though it appears that he's only played in one game - this game.

Beyond that he has conveniently logged off 3 minutes after Caedus - who is France.

I believe that Caedus created the user with the sole purpose of controlling two characters in this game. The fact that they both have similar nonsensical names, are logged on at similar times and one of them is only in one game seems to support my theory.
