Possibly a browser bug?
In http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5028, I built a fleet in Naples in Winter 03, but it turned out to be an army. In http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5000, I moved Vienna-Bohemia in Spring 05, but it was recorded as Vienna-Trieste. I posted about 2 similar situations last week; Kestas checked the logs and concluded that the orders were not fully entered or were incorrectly entered. Since then, I've become even more careful, not finalizing moves until I'm absolutely sure they're ok, and then re-verifying 2-3 times after they're finalized. Players in games I'm in may be able to confirm that I've told them I'm no longer willing to finalize moves when I'm taking a break from work; now I almost always wait until I get home in the evening to make sure I don't make mistakes because I'm in a hurry. I can't believe I made 2 mistakes in 24 hours, and didn't catch them even after checking 5-6 times. If, like last time, Kestas verifies that the orders received by the server are the ones being executed, then I have to wonder if it's a bug in the browser. I'm using Safari 3.1.2 on a Mac (with multiple tabs, if that makes a difference, as Kestas said it might for the disappearing messages). The OS is Tiger (10.4.11). Has this been happening to anyone else?
Thankfully, the consequences haven't been terribly severe so far. Even when I (unintentionally) attack my allies due to these orders, the orders are always so completely crazy that (so far, at least), everyone has believed that they're errors.
