New Game- World War Pi
I noticed the lack of new games; it seems that the only join-able games involve taking over a country in civil disorder. So, instead, lets get a fresh one going.

I think I found a ajudicator (sp?) error
I'm not very experienced with Diplomacy, so I may be wrong, but in "Lost in da shit" (http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4006#orders) I had an army in Spain move to Gascony, an army in Paris move to Burgundy, and Marseilles support move into Burgundy (where there was a single unsupported German army). My Parisian army took Burgundy, but somehow the German army, which was trying to move into Gascony bounced my Spanish army...

Asian Games...
I mentioned this a few months back but would like to start a game for people in the Asia-Pacific time-zone. So we can take advantage of this and get more press going. Am thinking 101 points - WTA.

Any takers??

A bit odd?
Maybe I'm just making mountains out of molehills, but do the actions between Germany and Russia look a bit fishy? I'm not only referring to the moves into Russian home SCs, but the move at Kiel puzzles me (especially since this is a no press game).

Little bug about GMT
Dear Kestas
I've noticed that, even if in my Settings I have set timezone on GMT+1, I see the time displayed in pages with GMT+0 value.

I'm not sure to remember well, but I think this worked fine in the past.

not seeing units when replaying
Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere.
When I go to a finished game and replay it, I see the colors of the provinces changing, but I do not see the units.

Am I doing something wrong?

Game listing fix
In the next update please change the game so they are ordered by create date or complete date or something. I just finished a game "No Draws 2" and because it's a low pot total, it's not even showing in my finished games. I know I won because of the gamemaster message, but I can't even see what exactly happened in the final turn since I can't look up the game.

CD Disbanding - Ajudicator not right
The Diplomacy rules (I have) say that if a country is in CD and must disband a unit, the unit would be the one farthest from their home country. If equal, remove fleets before armies, and then alphabetically by province.

This rule was not followed for a CD France in this game:
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=3651

Can we fix the ajudicator and/or this particular game? Thanks.

There actually aren't any real rules on this. See http://web.inter.nl.net/users/L.B.Kruijswijk/#4.D.8 for the DATC take on what the rules should be.

We've gone with option D as the ideal rule, but it's arbitrary and non-official either way (it doesn't exactly match your version of the rule). Hopefully option D will be implemented in the next non-bugfix release, and some of the code is already in place to be able to support this

Actually, the Avalon Hill rules, a.k.a. the Diplomacy Bible, agree with Stagger.

The rule is "If a country in civil disorder has to remove units, the units farthest from the country are removed first. If units are equally distant, then remove Fleets before Armies and then in alphabetical order by the provinces in which they’re located."

The problem is "distance" isn't defined. Does this means distance in terms of the number of spaces the unit has to move, or distance in terms of board pieces, do convoys count, etc. Also does "country" mean any province which is the same color as the country being started from?

Previous rulebooks say it's distance from supply center, and give methods for calculating distance, so the most recent rule is more vague than the previous rules. So I'm going to go with the DATC's preference which takes both rules into account and is very specific.

I think that the assumption is that distance is defined by the number of territories (land and/or water) separating the closest original border territory of the great power and the unit. The unit's ability to travel over these spaces in terms of the rules of play does not apply here. It is simply a count of the spaces. I feel that this is the interpretation that was intended. If a more complex interpretation was intended, then I think that this would have been specified in the original rules.

My two cents.
Stagger (2661 D(B))

Thanks for your time with this, kestasjk!
Thanks, mapleleaf - obviously, our interpretations are the same.
datc page prefers that distance mean distance from any home center, but i disagree.

with that rule, in http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=3585 france would keep gas and lose tus and tyn, just b/c gas is closer to centers he now doesn't own. silly!

Take it up with Kruijswijk :-P I'm going to refer people to the DATC for the reasoning behind adjudicator decisions, I figure these people are the ones who debate in newsgroups and have come up with a decision that'll be okay with the most people
ok i did

exactly, you can't really complain that the wrong unit got disbanded when you aren't around to do the complaining...
jarad (215 D)

But if the CD disbands units in a way that weakens itself, that will help the player(s) that border it, and as a result weaken the players furthest from it.

I want to make a remark as maker of the DATC.

'country' does not mean your current supply centers.

Country means the areas on the map with your color. For Germany that is kiel, ruhr, munich, berlin, prussia and silesia.

This is a terrible rule, because none of the current adjudicators have any notion of 'country' (the map data doesn't contain it).

Variants may not have put the country colors on the map.

It also may differ per version. Some argue that Albania should belong to Austria as country.

Using country over home supply centes is just adding lots of unnecessary complexity to the adjuticators with virtually no change.

Using current supply centers would make sense, but none of the rules have been that way.

Regards,

Lucas Kruijswijk
