Can some explain?
I think this is a bug, can someone explain how come it happens?

In the game named Sertorius (http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=985) I am playing Germany, I had an army in Burgundy and another in Picardy. England has an army in Paris and a fleet in Brest - There is no where he can support hold at Paris with. I am 100% sure that I moved Picardy into Paris, and supported its move with Burgundy. The gamemaster says I have succesfully supported the move, yet my army in Picardy couldn't move in with the message
"Autumn 1924, Diplomacy: Your army at Picardy engaged the army at Paris head on; both units were equally matched so there was a stand off."

Earlier in the game the same army that is in Paris moved in there without support while I was supposed to cause a clash.

Double convoy and other question
Is it possible in phpDip that, let us say for exemple, an unit in wales can be convoyed to portugal via sea units in irish sea and mid-atlantic?

And it is possible to a unit support the move of another that's being convoyed in this turn? I'm not asking if it is possible to support the convoy itself.

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my bad english :)

Accidently joined a game (took over a CD)
Was looking at a game, and managed to click the "Take over a country in CD" link (it's right there with the "view game" link). Is there any way to actively remove myself from a game, or do I just ignore it and let it drop back to CD? I hate that the other players in the game will be delayed, waiting for each phase to timeout until then. It's the "NapoleonticWars II" game, if there's any way to boot me...

I want to have a sig!
I tried using the comment tab but my sig was too long.
In my sig I want my stance on the
"prevent players from playing a game in which contains another player whom they are playing already with" and the reasons why.

A question about the implementation.
As this is written in PHP does that mean that the gamemaster processes are only performed in response to a web page request? I.e if everyone stopped logging in would all the games stall, or would the turns tick over independently?

The turns are independent of page requests.

How's that done?

Roughly speaking, there is a database on the server which contains all of the game information. The server processes all of the moves and advances the games. The web browser is simply used to either send information (i.e. moves) to the server or display information (i.e. results) retrieved from it.

Basically a script running at home (in shell script) runs the script (that runs on the server, in PHP) every 5 minutes or so. A while ago there was a little green tick at the bottom of the page, and that was an image that was generated by the processing script. But running the script constantly was an unnecessary waste of resources so now it only gets run every 5 minutes.

When I get around to it I'll change it to use a crontab instead, so that the server runs the script every 5 minutes on its own.

Dangermouse a DB server is not a processing engine it's just a repository for data. PHP is a scripting language for webservers, and it's only by accessing a page, or by running a script directly that anything will get done.

Kestasjk, so if I downloaded the software and installed it somewhere I'd have to implement a script to trigger updates. I thought as much. Will accessing any page trigger the gamemaster, or is there a specific php file that you run?
kestasjk (95 DMod(P))

The version currently for download on sourceforge still has the old gamemaster script in an image on the bottom of the page, so you wouldn't have to write a script to run it using the sourceforge.net version
Mintz (177 D)

So the script that runs in the image only runs when someone is accessing a phpDiplomacy web page, and there's no independent background processing going on on the server then, is that right?

And so if I installed the sourceforge code and no-one accessed it for a few days the turn wouldn't be processed, is that correct?

A DB server can certainly have triggers programmed however. Perhaps that isn't how kestas has it running, but I don't see why game turns couldn't be processed without input from php (though on thinking about it I suppose it would be much harder to do it that way).

well, the most common way is to make a web page accesible only from localhost that processess the turn and run a cron job on the machine, i did not notice anything like this in the sources provided.

If no-one accessed the page and you were using the sourceforge code then no, games wouldn't be processed until someone accessed the page. (Though once they accessed a page the processing would occur)

If you used the CVS sources then processing wouldn't occur unless started by an admin

Thanks Kestasjk. I'm learning PHP and your code provides and interesting example. Much obliged.

simple question.
i guess this has been answered a thousand times before, but i can't be bothered to look for it.

question: if a unit is attacked, can it still cut support?

as in:

unit A attacks unit B
unit C supports unit A's attack against unit B
unit D attacks unit C
unit E attacks unit D

what exactly happens? is unit D able to cut C's support?

France
I'm sure this must be a complete coincidence, but I'm now involved in three games (my first three online games) and have been given France each time!

The distribution on powers is completely random right?

Thanks

Support hold of a support move
Normally, when a unit attempts to support a move but is then attacked itself, the support is canceled. However, what happens when that unit has been given hold support? Does the support let it give support to another unit? I've always been confused by this scenario.

Help! I don't have enough units?
In the game 'Dah de Daaaaaaaah' I'm playing as Russia.
When it came for reinforcements to be placed in the end of Autumn 01, I had 3 extra units to place as I got 3 extra centres, none were taken, which should give me a total of 7 units (lucky me). Unfortunately one of my units has decided not to appear. All my home centres did not have a unit in.

Of course, this could just me being blind and very silly. :S

Kestas, could you please pause our game?
There are three players left in game 1203 ("Unto the breach"), and all of us have agreed that the game can be paused while I'm across the country.

Thanks very much, Kestas!

A new (to me at least) error with convoys
In game http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gid=1157, I have twice tried to convoy an army in Constantinople through the Aegean into Bulgaria. At the same time, I am moving my fleet in Bulgaria into Constantinople. After the first time it didn't work I assumed I had entered orders incorrectly. However the 2nd time I made sure they were good and it still failed.

Gamemaster claims that my army and fleet engaged each other head-on and so stalemated. This set of moves should work.

Inface Mr. MKI likes winning so much, he makes several games in which he controls all 6 other countries and lets them fall into civil disorder. This is just pathetic.

Either I'm going crazy or we have a very strange bug...
I've started two games in which I've ended up as Italy.
Both times, Spring 1901 involved moving my F Nap to (in the first game) Ion and (in the second) Tyr.
Both times, n Autumn 1901 I'm convinced I submitted orders to move to Tunis- the natural move.
Both times, the fleet has returned to Naples.

The first time I dismissed it as a mistake on my part, but after happening a second time, when I'm convinced I submitted orders for Tunis, I'm starting to wonder if there's something else...
