Apparently that's why ^
The conservatives point to the problems Sweden is having with crime in Malmo. I haven't looked into it enough to decide which side, if either, is giving a more accurate picture of what is going on there. I doubt the "The police and emergency services won't go into Malmo" extreme view, but also doubt that the "giving everyone a job" approach would dissuade most who come in with an extremist agenda.

What I find most troubling is that a country with a liberal and peaceful past is starting to turn to far-right extremist parties if only slowly. Akkesson get's to rightly claim "where in" in light of the 6% win they got in the last elections.

Um...Nazi sympathizers in the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo weren't fabricated out of thin air.
Actually never read the book, and despite my family ties I haven't been up on Swedish politics. So, having a country that historically prides itself on a long history of peace actually supporting a right wing party was a bit of a surprise. Especially since most of their support comes from the Malmo region. Like I said, I haven't looked into it enough though.

@CA i haven't looked into it either, but giving ppl an opportunity to earn a living (job training etc) means you can be sure they have an option for not being a terrorist in future... And this may be pretty close to 'giving everyone a job'...

Coincidentally, i just saw a youtube 'extra history' series on Sweden's 'great northern war'.

Some swedes probably still pride themselves on the empire they once acquired (finland, the baltic state, this was before Peter the Great built St. Petersburg... Which was a big factor in the great Northern war...) maybe all your family there are proud of the peaceful lefty tradition?

Oh don't worry, Naziism is 100% alive and well in Sweden. I'm just looking at returning ISIS fighters, part of a terrorist organization who has committed dozens of human rights violations getting extra advantages. If I'm living in Sweden my entire life, had the chance to go to ISIS but didn't, and never committed a crime... i'm looking at this and thinking "now why the living hell do THEY get special treatment?"

if you want to talk about Naziism in Sweden can we make that another thread though? because it's actually kind of scary in some of those countries

Why does Sweden need to ensure they have an option for not being a terrorist in the future?

I will admit that I didn't get a very good translation of the article, so I might not be fully understanding this issue. But it's my perception of the situation that these were Swedish residents who left Sweden to join ISIS and are returning back to Sweden now. Did these residents not have the option to stay in Sweden before? Why are they getting a second chance now? That hardly seems like it would discourage anybody from leaving Sweden to join ISIS... if anything it's an extra incentive, they can go 'serve a tour' so to speak and then come back home to more resources than they had before!

@"Why does Sweden need to ensure they have an option for not being a terrorist in the future?"

Who sad anything about needing to, choosing to is another question.

I would assume a government doesn't roll out an expansive job/opportunity program to known returning terrorists without a clearly-defined need for doing so.

But the argument doesn't really change if I ask the question "Why is Sweden choosing to ensure [...]" So if that would accommodate your understanding of the issue better, let me ask that one. Why would Sweden choose to ensure they have another option for not being a terrorist in the future, given that they already have arguably the world's most expansive social safety net and opportunity programs for underprivileged members of their society, which these returning terrorists chose not to utilize the last time they were in Sweden?

I would hope government doesn’t act unless there’s some real need in general.

Maybe they did utilize said program in the past.

Just because you have a job or training, or whatever, doesn't mean you know what kind of people ISIS are and that you don't want to work with them...

I haven't heard interviews with any returned ex-ISIS members, but i can't but assume it was an experience which changed them all.

I don't know why they might make this choice, i'm speculating that it is to reduce crime in Sweden, and to improve public safety.

Feature Request
I dislike bananas. I would like a feature to show when my opponents last ate a banana, as well as where that banana fell on the green-brown scale (I find green bananas less objectionable. Banana-based deserts and smoothies are unimportant, but this feature should also account for artificial banana flavors in things such as candy. I will generally leave implementation details such as how to display the color scale up to the developer, as I understand how important they are. Thanks!
