Canceling CDs in live games
Thoughts to follow (my phone isn't letting me both type everything and post as well lol)

I hate CDs as much as the next guy but why is it seen as necessary to cancel every live game that someone CDs or NMRs in the first turn? I do understand that it throws the balance of the game a bit but so what? It's a game people, let's just play and have fun. If CDing were a rare occurrence, I might agree that canceling is the best move but it happens in literally 75% of the live games that I've joined. It's gotten to the point where I feel like joining a live game isn't even worth it because it will probably just get canceled anyway. Am I alone in these thoughts?

I prefer to draw, since a CD does upset the balance greatly, as it punishes the offender and gives those who took the time to play a reward for staying in. A lot of CD's in games, especially live games, ends up turning into solos because the missing player upset the balance. That's from my experience anyway.

Plus in Anonymous games, I like to know who I went up against.

Yes but wouldn't you rather just play? What if a person CDing actually forces the hands of some players to ally against others? I think it makes it things even more interesting.

I mean technically, can't any Italy say that the game started unfairly because they start with the least chance of winning? It's not a reason not to play. I like being Italy for that reason.
Tyran (914 D)

It's unfair and takes away from the game. It should be drawn and reposted. You'll get another interested player who won't CD. It's no fun for anyone to lose on account of someone not showing up and their neighbor getting all his Scs.

hey that's the breaks of Navy Air. i share the desire to keep going. i want to play and if the game in unbalanced, oh well. it isn't any less fair than when a player has three other powers decide to attack all at once.

The problem with drawing (instead of cancelling) is that it hurts your GR, if you care about that.
Tyran (914 D)

It is less fair. One is players actually making an action and can be handled with superior diplomacy. The other changes the game utterly.

What we need is a system whereby Powers in CD can be quickly taken over by replacement players - I.e. A thread where replacements can be requested and passwords (where applicable) can be provided.

There would need to be a way of accommodating Anon games. Perhaps this is one situation where anonymous posts might be allowed. As the server (and so the Mods) would know who had added any posts, any potential abuse could still be monitored and controlled.

Another point to consider is the reason for NMR'ing. To take Tyran's point above, I would suggest that everyone enters a game intending both to enjoy it and do well. But what to do if neither occurs?

Some people in that situation NMR but still remain 'in situ', thereby putting their forces into CD. In my view that is a selfish and immature response. Better surely to pause and leave the game, preferably advertising, via a forum thread, for a replacement. Anonymity can be preserved for the new and existing players and as the original player has left the game, the fact that their identity is now known is not relevant.

Another clarifying thread...
A unit can cut support if it itself is only tapped as well, but it does NOT cut support if it is dislodged by two completely different units, right?

Worst possible 1v1 matchup
What would be the most unbalanced 1v1 matchup possible on the Classic board? I could see England v Russia being awful for England, especially with Russia enjoying 4 builds/turn.

Scoring System Proposal
I don't know if this has been suggested but:
1. If there is a winner they get the whole pot
2. If there is a draw, it's always a seven* way draw regardless of elimination.

Best way to learn code
I want to learn how to code, but am having trouble deciding where to start. Their are many free resources, online classes, boot camps, etc. I would prefer to teach myself, but lack the knowledge to know what language I should be learning first and so on. Any tips from the experienced code writers here on WebDip?

Is there a rule against holding a stalemate indefinitely even though the situation is clear? I think he's hoping the rest of us give up and leave, which if it isn't against the rules yet then it should be.

PPSC discussion thread:
I don't particularly care for PPSC. But saw that another thread was having this discussion as a sidebar and thought it fair to start a discussion thread. There is reasonable support for PPSC and regardless of the majority opinion the minority's should be heard.

Abolish Sum-Of-Squares scoring
Ok, so I understand some people don't like PPSC and don't want it back. I disagree. BUT let's talk about SOS instead. It's a terrible scoring system and is directly contrary to the rulebook.

New Scoring System Proposal
I don’t know if this has been suggested but:
1. In draws have everyone alive share the pot equally (As they should because SoS is garbage)
2. In a solo, the soloist gains a portion of the pot equal to 18* divided by the number of centers controlled by the soloist or survivors (but not neutral centers or those of resigned powers) and the survivors split the remainder proportionally based on their center count.
*Or however many
