ESPN Streak for the Ca$h
Anyone here play this with at least semi-seriousness, and is there interest in making a webDip group on ESPN for friendly competition? I haven't been picking too much but with CFB and NFL seasons starting up in a couple weeks, I plan on trying again. I've gotten up to W21 before during football season.

Conway's Game of Life
I suspect many of you are familiar with Conway's game of life, and there may have been a thread on this topic in the past, but I have been messing around with different patterns and I find this 'game' simply amazing. Such simple physics, but such complex and cool things can happen. If you aren't familiar with the game check out the rules here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conway's_Game_of_Life
For those who do know about this, what is the coolest pattern you have seen??

Tony Stewart Accidentally Runs Over/Kills Driver During Race
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtBH9FJ3LOU I have never watched a NASCAR or Sprint Cup race in my life...because frankly, I couldn't care less about cars going around and around in a circle 500 times (I don't doubt it's hugely challenging and takes talent, it's just not for me) but wow...what a way to go. :/ Getting run over like that mid-race, shit...

possible banned members page?
I visit a site called GTPlanet and they have a banned members page with some hilarious explanations of why the user was banned. I think it would be cool and funny to have one here as well!
Here's the page from GTPlanet as an example

Is it possible for there to be a war where all sides are actually *right*?
We're all familiar with the idea that there are wars in which everyone is at fault. Let's consider the hypothetical opposite: Is it possible for there to be a war where all sides are actually *right*?
(This is somewhat related to the "religious people so anti-humanity" topic but I think this deserves it's own thread.)

What should I do? Right now I'm hanging in dundas square at the hard rock.

Any suggestions?

What do you like doing? I would avoid the tourist traps personally. If I still lived there I'd offer to show you around. Some things I like:

Kensington Market
Argos game if you're there tomorrow night (Canadian football)
Bar Volo if you like great beer
Bar Isabel for delicious food (I can give more beer and food recommendations)
Hockey hall of fame
the waterfront is nice in the east end (Scarborough bluffs/ashbridges bay)
Science centre is a good call
the zoo is good
if you like weed I can give you a contact
again if you're there tomorrow night go to the Dakota tavern for live music
Toronto island is beautiful but ferry is pricey
Walk north to bar volo for your drink don'tdo CN tower
philcore (317 D(S))
11 Aug 14 UTC
Bar volo it is. Thanks Lando. Looks like its only about a half mile from dundas. If any Canadian diplomats are at bar volo tonight, I'll buy you a beer. Let me know you're there, and I'll tell you how to find me.

Trinity Bellwoods Park, then walk down Queen St. towards Bathurst. Check out the counter culture art crowd.

Then walk south to King and Bathurst. The Wheat Sheaf is on the south west corner. It's the oldest bar in Toronto.

I'm not familiar with that bar but maple has good suggestions. That stretch of queen west is a great walk.

And philcore, when you're in toronto you have to speak in kilometres.
philcore (317 D(S))
11 Aug 14 UTC
Ah right, thanks landing. Looks aboot .8 km away.

Hey speaking of metric. We're staying with friends who have a pool, and for some reason when they speak about water temp, its Fahrenheit, but when its the air temp, it celcius ... What's up with that?
philcore (317 D(S))
11 Aug 14 UTC
Landing = Lando ... Autocorrect!

@maple, is that called the distillery district? I think we're going there after bar volo.

Thanks to both if you for the suggestions!
Distillery district is nice. Old buildings and streets and the mill street beer hall is fun and they make great beer.

philcore (317 D(S))
11 Aug 14 UTC
@maple, wheat sheaf is now in the list. Bar volo first, then we'll head down to king and bathurst.
philcore (317 D(S))
11 Aug 14 UTC
At barvolo, good recommendation, but ordering at the bar is a little annoying.
I'm surprised they don't have table service, sorry about that.

Yeah, Bar Volo has their unique schtick, but...definitely a place to go for beer-ophiles. On the other hand, C'est What on Front Street has excellent craft beer AND table service, with excellent food.

Yeah, we went to the underground after the banknote and there was nowhere to charge my phone there. Had a great time though, thanks for all the suggestions. Too bad I didn't have more time to try a few more of them. My friends live in whitby, so we decided to only do one day downtown.
Yonni (136 D(S))

I'm so sorry you had to go to Shitby. Please don't hold it against the rest of us.
Nor the strip clubs you had to walk by to get from dundas to volo

good generic role-playing game system for a fantasy setting?
i'm looking forward to playing a few sessions with friends/relatives, but haven't yet decided what system to use. can somebody recommend one or two systems? i wouldn't want to use more than three dice (only if there's an easy conting method like in fate), but wouldn't like no dice either. yet no other ideas on what the system should cover.
