Yeah I legitimately don't think I can play in the tournament.

@PF, re PayDip :P ;)

@Durga - That is correct. The first order phase is double-time to allow for introductions and intense early negotiations. HOWEVER!!! IF EVERY ACTIVE PLAYER FINALISES, the phase will end early and progress on. At least one person has not finalised their orders.

Damn I wish I knew about a practice match on your site carebear, I would'v been in it in a flash since I'm signed up for the tournament and would like the opportunity to familiarise myself with your interface.

Also, ignore ssoren he acts the arsehole every now and then for no apparent reason.
Carebear (100 D)

@Wusti, did you read my guest player guide thread in the tournament subforum? At the bottom, I suggested a way to get in some simple practice. Basically, use the join mechanism, filter to active and unranked games, and replace a CD'd position. This will give you an easy and non-impacting way to familiarize yourself with the interface.

I tried to think of things that made webdip a horrible place and that was the first thing to come to mind.
mscott (384 D(G))
07 Feb 17 UTC
Are there so few WebDippers interested in the tournament that we can't find one player willing to grab an open Russia? Sad!
How do open draw votes work on PlayDip? If I propose a draw, can I rescind it? how does everyone accept the draw?
ishirkmywork (1401 D)
07 Feb 17 UTC

I think everyone has to open up "status" and accept the draw. If one player declines the whole draw is sunk. I think there is also a timer for the draw too. Very different than here. I still stand by my belief that webdip is vastly superior.
The most important part is: Can I rescind my draw vote?
VillageIdiot (7813 D)
08 Feb 17 UTC
No you can't.
Thanks VI. Good to know. Guess I'll just have to solo instead.
Yonni (136 D(S))

VI, where are you more active and why do you play games on both? Just seems like a hassle for you to split your time.
Also, why play on PlayDip at all?... :P
VillageIdiot (7813 D)
08 Feb 17 UTC
@Yonni - I still play there, but these days more here. I managed to get up to the #1 spot there and lasted just shy of two years which ended up getting me fairly recognizable so when i got knocked off i decided i wanted to try a new challenge and fresh opponents and ended up stumbling upon WebDip. Been trying to add the top spot here on my bucket list but seem to keep peaking at #2. Lately i'm not extremely active on either.
VillageIdiot (7813 D)
08 Feb 17 UTC
Contrary to all the "we're the best/they suck" talk on both sites there really is pros and cons of both and some good appeal to playing on both. They've both got their share of variants unique to their sites. Nature of the rating system there makes it a lot more cutthroaty for competitive players as you near the top while here the community is generally more active.
So what you're really saying is that you're pretty much the best online diplomacy player anywhere. :)

I would never say that, far too modest!!

So are you playing for WebDip or PlayDip in the ODC, VI? (Hint: There's only one correct answer)

Not that it matters, end of day it's individual glory anyways in that one.

gunboat related - grabbing Munich in 1901
I find that a lot of players that start as France would actually try to get Burgundy into Munich in gunboats in Autumn 01. What is the point of that? Germany will have to build armies to get France out again and thus put England in a massively advantaged position.

Thoughts?

Colours of the Great Powers on WebDip
Why does WebDip have the colour allotment it does?
In the original rules, it says that Austria is Red, England: Dark Blue, France: Light Blue, Turkey: Yellow, Germany: Black, Russia: White, Italy: Green. Why change England and Russia?

Rule Hypocrisy
the people that made a rule against "Sexism, racism, homophobia, and other forms of bigotry" but allow cussing i think is quite hypocritical. if you allow people to cuss on this site then why is it wrong for someone to politely state their belief that homosexuality is a sin? if this forum was made for people to voice their opinions and opinions are allowed on other matters then why is it wrong to voice your opinions on sticky subjects?

Switzerland: No Man's Land.
Let's assume that Switzerland is no longer impassable. What effects would that have on the game, the strategy, and the tactics? Should Switzerland stay a no man's land, or might it be more interesting to make it a playable space? Perhaps it could be a neutral supply center, or just a neutral territory. What do you guys think?

Turkey Opening Strategies: Moving to Syria?
Turkey opens normally, except the fleet in Ankara moves to Constantinople, and the army in Smyrna holds. The army in Smyrna then moves to Syria. Turkey can build a fleet in Ankara or Smyrna, depending on whether he is going after Russia or Italy. This is not my idea. I was just curious to know what you guys think about it. Is a Turkish move to Syria just plain silly, or might it have some serious strategic effects?

French - Italian alliance
How would this work? Usually there's a non-aggression pact, but if France were willing to sacrifice Marseilles in return for support in Tyrolia, is this a workable relationship? Stabs are VERY difficult as they cross the stalemate line, but has this been effectively done before?

I hate people from Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe-ans suck big time.

I was actually going to use this new thread to maybe comment about what I think about women, or maybe what I think about Republicans, or maybe something else like that. But then I thought those things might get me in trouble. So I decided to express my opinion about Zimbabwe-ans instead.

Strategy differences between the maps
What would you say the biggest overall strategy differences are between playing the small map (Ancient Med) vs Classic vs the larger maps (Fall of American Empire, Mod Dip, World Dip, and soon to be extinct Known World)?
