This game should of been canceled but two of the last three did not cancel instead voted for draw..Anyways I never knew you could set up a draw line in the middle of Europe. But I did.

Liberal Tripe or Poignant Obeservation from Nicholas Kristof: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/05/opinion/05kristof.html?_r=2&src=me&ref=general ?

I tend to think the latter, but then I've been wrong before. This also got me thinking about what countries/political systems American conservatives actually admire throughout the world. Anyone care to share a place that the GOP would point to as a desirable place as a result of policies and positions similar to their own.

bump. I wish people other than the professors would comment on this. We're at a point fairly common in many games and easy to learn from.

Spring, 1909, Diplomacy

Not over yet

I've had a good look at the board and it's not over yet, although this could quickly get bogged down to a stalemate very soon.

Very interesting year and powers will need to be very careful how they move. This is where strategy comes out to play and players start to fire up their jDip to see if they can gain any ground (well, I do, more experienced players may not need it!) This is where you really need to know what can support what and what support can be cut. Always better to be on the offensive as much as possible as long as it doesn't mean you are likely to lose out. Often a cut support is more useful as defence than supporting a hold. Also remember that the centres only get awarded at the end of the year. You can afford to lose one now if you can take it back next turn.

There is one area on the board that is the most intense and dynamic at the moment and you can see why Germany has agreed to convoy in the English army in. They need it!

Very unlikely to be any stabs this turn.

Assignment:

How do you think Austria should move to maximise potential and/or how should Germany move to minimise damages?

See, as Austria, I would have gone after Liv. Ukraine cover Moscow, Galicia support Silesia to Warsaw. Austria needs to crack St. P. to break the stalemate and I thought these would have been some bitchin' moves.

As England I'd have moved West Med to GoL and moved to North Africa. Italy was very lucky England was too defensive IMHO.

My German moves were to support St. P. to Moscow and support hold Warsaw while hitting Sil & Boh with England covering Munich (which would have pretty much been the same result anyway I think).

I do like the German fleet disband & move to Baltic.

Anyone want to comment on these moves vs the actual moves? Anyone have any better moves for the last turn for any of the powers?

Anyone see this ending as anything other than a 4 way draw?

So, the move to Ionian is telling. Stab? Seems like a good idea if Italy can trust England. Would really heat this game up! Austria and Germany aren’t in much of a position to form a united front.

Without a stab this has to go 4 ways.

Why do you think it has to go 4 ways? What tactical weight does Germany have at all?
texasdeluxe (516 D(B))
20 Apr 11 UTC
Well, technically, it doesn't, but realistically I think it will. Germany is on the stalemate line and I doubt anyone can be bothered to chance any other power taking advantage and gaining the solo. So that poses the question. Should the other powers take out Germany (or anyone else for that matter) and can they do it safely without letting any other power solo? If so, how?

I think it can be done, but will it?
texasdeluxe (516 D(B))

So, this thing...
lol
I've been following this game every now and then, and i have a question.

England/Germany have a stalemate line set up. They can advance whereas Austria/Italy cannot. Therefore, they might be able to coerce one of them into stabbing the other, just by refusing to draw.

The question is this: which ending do you consider more likely: EGI or EGA (or perhaps EAI)?
I think I answered your question there for you haha
Yes, you did.

Let me then ask a different question: Do you think the English stab was premature , or not? He was the only one making advances, Germany and Austria were stuck against each other, and Italy was losing the struggle in the Med.

Could England have waited until he made significant gains down south, before pulling the stab? Was there at any time a possibility for England to solo?

Is it worth bumping this in readiness for the phase change. Or is the commentary/interest dead?
idk if interest is dead, but commentary seems to be. Bas's questions have gone unanswered. I also think we should start getting our EOG statements ready? Surely the game will wrap up in the next week or so
I am still interested. I believe the most exciting moment was when it was reduced to four players. In such a situation, the strong are filtered form the weak. However, an extremely strong player (like a top 10 player) would have found an opportunity to gert some solo chances.

I hope my question does not remain unanswered. I'd like a reply from the professors, or maybe from the players themselves.

Alternatively, adress the issue in your EOGs?

I personally found the English stab highly unnesscary, and had England was foolish to do that
the game must remain fluid. I hate it when things get bogged down. But I shall comment no more because SoW players are not supposed to comment about ongoing games, mongoose

says mr commenter!
I'm curious about England's last build. Two armies on the mainland, with no fleet to convoy? Misorder perhaps?

If he had wanted to just sit back and wait, why not waive the build?
@Mongoose: Can you supplement that opinion with some rational arguments? i would be very interested. But, as goldfinger rightfully comments, perhaps after the game (or in a PM to me?)

A petty this died. Interesting stage of the game when a nation is running for 18 and the rest needs to find a plan to stop him...and at the same time should concider not to open up the same chance for another nation...
Advince in terms of "what could Germany do so England will think him neccessary to stop Austria", "should Italy open his western border to move all-in against Austria" or in other terms "which units should Italy disband now", "how long will England likely need to regain StPet". All of thos einteresting questions I think...
Of course the main question still remains: why were they so nuts to destroy France? That where the hole shit got started, right? ;-)

It seems the folks who constantly recommend Putin to relocate to North Korea are gravely misunderstood in their intentions. They are not out of their arguments, they are simply following the Golden Rule.

When I say I'm from an American from Los Angeles County, those that have never been there--what do you picture? When you think of an American, what comes to mind, Englishmen? And what comes to mind when players identify themselves as being from parts of the UK? From Europe? South America?
