Unless most other Diplomacy maps, Empire4 is not very balanced and a few nations have severe disadvantages that make it very difficult for them to win while others are fairly overpowered. I can explain more if someone wants to ask.

Rival/hatred game variant
I'd like to play a game mode where each player is secretly given a unique rival (so no two players share a rival), and the only players counted at the end of the draw are those who have both survived and eliminated their rival. A solo doesn't need to eliminate their rival and rivals aren't necessarily symmetrical.

Unknown Player in Anonymous Private Game
I'm completely new to Diplomacy and this website. I made a private game and explained to my friends how to join my private match. Though only 2 people say they've joined, I have 3 anonymous players other than myself registered. Is it possible one of them joined twice? I know by the time stamps that it was one of the first two players who joined the game, the times are only a minute apart, and I am wondering if the small time frame is just a player joining twice.

@Claesar you have 24 hours. The *mid card* is pulled every mid phase and is either a reward or a crisis. In this case you were rewarded with options to purchase.

@Bo - no different however the Congolese do not currently have a global reach and as such you will not encounter Congolese in Vdipia. Having playdipian slaves could lead to negative relations with playdipian colonies.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Good to know, CB.

The King will offer us support in our ventures against Playdipia. We do not need to fear the repercussions of taking already captured Playdipian slaves along with us. They will be good bartering chips for us with the Playdipians if we encounter them, but it's not like their capture is news - the Playdipians might come after us for being the King's subjects, but they won't come after us for 30 slaves that have been gone for a long time already.

<<<CURRENT PROPOSAL LIST>>>

________
________

I am only doing this because Kench isn’t here. If he is our Scribe, this is his responsibility, and I only recommend doing this for the sake of maintaining organized. I also highly recommend keeping your own list.

For the purposes of this list, I am following a 2/3 majority **of the voters** to constitute a pass. This means that if enough people that haven’t yet voted went ahead and voted no, what is marked as passed may not end up on the charter or on our orders for the phase. Ultimately, if Kench is our Scribe, this is up to him. If not, I’m more than happy to keep making these lists. I think that a 2/3 majority is best, though, rather than saying we necessarily need a certain number of votes, because certain people are going to go active and inactive throughout the game and others may drop out, so our numbers won’t stay the same. I think it is safe to stipulate, though, that a proposal must have a majority of councillors voting in order to pass (right now that is 3/6 I believe?).

For hiring experts, I am using the same metric for passing/failing, but as Kench indicated before, the specialists with the most YEA votes will end up hired, regardless of the percentage.

For the most part, this follows Kench’s format, but I haven’t renumbered proposals. I think it will be easier on all of us to simply leave the proposals numbered in order and have the scribe group them, as I have here, so that yea and nay votes don’t get mixed up. That means that you might have to search to find your proposal, but it also means that when you propose something as 1.22 or whatever, it stays that, regardless of what grouping it ends up under. I think this is better.

According to the rules, nay votes for proposals that have not been seconded yet do not count. Yea votes to proposals that have not been seconded count as seconds, and once a proposal is seconded, the proposer and the seconder are considered yea votes.

I also added a couple of my own votes to things I hadn’t voted on yet.

<<<NEW WEBDIPIA CHARTER>>>

________
________

This is an incomplete draft. I welcome revisions and changes, but this basic outline of who we are and what we believe needs to be finished by the end of this phase.
________
________

We, the Councillors of New webDipia, declare ourselves in allegiance to King Byron and establish this new land as a colony in his name. It is with his grace that we seek this new venture and aspire for good faith, good fortune, and vast prosperity.

The Councillors of new webDipia declare this land governed firstly by the King and, underneath His Majesty, the Governor, who shall be elected at a gathering of the Councillors every 5 phases by plurality. The Governor cannot act unilaterally in any fashion. He is, however, responsible for making wise recommendations to the remainder of the Councillors on foreign policy, assisting in sustaining the land on which we live, working closely with our hired specialists and other valued, influential assets as chosen by the Councillors, offering regular commentary and wisdom in daily matters, and upholding a positive relationship with the subjects of New webDipia. He can be removed from office with a unanimous vote among the Councillors, excluding his own, under charges of treason against the King, treason against the Councillors and New webDipia, or incompetence.

The Governor shall be solely responsible for appointing a Scribe, who shall be tasked with recording, counting, and tracking all changes and proposals for the Councillors, collecting votes on said proposals, and arranging any necessary documentation to be relayed to the mainland by the conclusion of each phase. The Governor shall also be solely responsible for appointing a Colony Manager, who shall, under the authority of the Governor, establish building projects with the help of our specialists, and help to meet the daily needs and necessities of the subjects of New webDipia.

New webDipia follows the Silver Standard, which is detailed specifically under Prop. 1.23, in all economic matters.

Signed,
The Councillors of New webDipia

We need to be careful of the purchase order. Since we split it up and voted by item rather than by total, we need to ensure that we don't vote to buy more than we can. I haven't done the math on what's proposed so far, but that's something to think about with this system.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
17 Sep 17 UTC
So far we have spent:

Farming Kit: 200 gold, 500 units
Mining Kit: 400 gold, 500 units
Spices: 100 silver, 100 units
Wool: 100 silver, 500 units
Row Boat: 200 silver, 300 units
Patrick Killian: 10 silver

That totals 410/900 silver, 600/1000 gold, and 1900/3000 units spent. Lots of everything left. We should do our best to fill out the 3000 units, but there is no pressure to spend all of our resources at all.

##PROP. 1.25

Purchase a cannon (100 gold, 100 units). Good for defense, especially since we don’t have fortifications yet, and even better once we do because we don’t necessarily have to put anyone outside of our walls in order to fight off an attack.

Sorry, I thought it had to be a minimum of three votes in favour. I misunderstood. Three votes total, still 2/3 majority, of course.

##Rick. Would it be best for me to re-write the whole charter, incorporating Proposal 1.24, or just assume that you have taken Bo's valid point into account.

[Suggestion] Alternate winning conditions
vDiplomacy has a way to set up "alternate winning conditions", e.g. to customize how many turns are played and/or how many SCs need to be conquered before a winner is declared. For example, we can have a game of Classic running for 14 turns (Fall 1907).

FFS WHY?
Why does online Diplomacy give me Germany to start with in every single game I sign up for?
Seriously, does it use region-based IP-checking? Because I'd really like to try out different countries and strategies.
And no, taking over Leavers doesn't count because you always get a losing position way past the point of getting a proper strategy rolled out (that's why the original player threw the game)

1v1 Showdown - An Update
110 players entered. After 8 months, 11 are still fighting for the title, and of those 11, just 2 remain undefeated.

That number is about to become 1.
