D'oh. And it is the survives that sends Split ahead because losing your last SC in the last turn counts as a "survive" for some reason I have never understood
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
25 Aug 14 UTC
Just to answer two points:
I moves after Germany almost at the same time I get into the game (can´t answer for the actions of the one playing Germany before me). I talked about Russia because he didn´t help me into NS when is pretty obvious this is our best chance, and after that retreated a fleet to Holl forcing me to disband a most needed army.

About Split decision, if he was cut of the draw he will have no chance to advance (either with a 3-way or a 4-way he will have someone above her in the table advancing to 11 D at least). A solo gives him a 2/6 chance of going to next round (I would say a bit more, considering Split probably have some ideas about who are the other players). And seems he choosed the right option.
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
25 Aug 14 UTC
Ouch, big mistake, you should read: I moved after France almost.....
Yaleunc (11052 D(B))
25 Aug 14 UTC
Rdrivera - France, Russia, and Turkey were Barn, Maettu, and virtual Bob in this game. A 3-way draw by those would have advanced him still. If VB and Barn's countries were reversed, the French solo would have eliminated him whereas that 3-way draw would have advanced. Basically the draw was okay for him as long as you and Raffy were not in it, the solo was okay as long as Barn or Maettu was playing France. Another way to look at it is if the game where I was Austria were the last to resolve instead of this one and he threw the solo it would have backfired on him.
Raffy (1706 D)
25 Aug 14 UTC
Congrats Barn for a hughe amount of points this round .. 6/7 games , not ? And congrats and lot of succes for the finalists
Barn3tt (41969 D)
25 Aug 14 UTC
Thanks, Raffy.
The scoring in the finals isn't designed to reward survives, it is designed to reward solos and barring those large centre counts. It more closely resembles your sum of squares method Jim.

As far as I know no round has gone to the survives tie breaker
Yaleunc (11052 D(B))
26 Aug 14 UTC
Good luck in the finals to those that made it. And congrats to Barn on a monster semis.
Ogion (3882 D)
26 Aug 14 UTC
Unless I miss my guess, Split advances over rdrivera on survives this time?

Also, Lando, what happens if we go through all the tie breaks?
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
26 Aug 14 UTC
I think Split advanced over me based on SC count, but I could be wrong. Also, I don´t deserve to go to the final after beind elimiated on the first round and played as sub entering in the middle of the round, so I guess it was a fair result in the end.

Good luck for the ones that made in the final and I will be keeping an eye on the games. It will be interesting to see if Barn will still be on fire :-)
Ogion (3882 D)
26 Aug 14 UTC
It's an interesting that you are first alternate and I may be last one in again for the final. I am beginning to feel like a nemesis here

Well, if you or someone don´t want to play in the finals I am here \o/, lol.

Thanks for the games all - I like to think I'd have had more of a shot without multiple Russias but tbh I was outclassed this round.
Ogion (3882 D)
28 Aug 14 UTC
And I am kicking myself unbelievably hard for fumbling my FIRST Turkey solo on the last move of the game. If I had just done the simple thing and not tried to be clever, I would have had Berlin and Naples and hit 18, but I didn't think for a minute France would make the mistake of making a move on Ruhr instead of cutting Munich! and yes, leaving naples open was just pure and simple stupidity.

Fantastic final game for me. Thanks to all of you, it was truly memorable and epic!
Ogion (3882 D)
28 Aug 14 UTC
yeah, the draw is massive. I am good with France, Germany, England, and Russia (in full press) but have never soloed with Austria, Italy or Turkey. So I got one Germany, three Austrias, and three Turkeys! At least I got a pretty decent performance out of one of those Austrias and one of those turkeys... I figured I was doomed.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
28 Aug 14 UTC
I love Russia, haven't gotten a single one all tourney so far. A Russian solo won me the last tourney.
mendax (321 D)
28 Aug 14 UTC
I got through to round 2 with a Russia solo, but I think I've had 5 this tournament, with the 4 others all being defeats.
Ogion (3882 D)
28 Aug 14 UTC
and for trivia hounds, if josunice had been England instead of Italy in that last game, he and Partysane would have been exactly tied I believe, so I was super curious to see how that panned out.
Ogion (3882 D)
28 Aug 14 UTC
oh, and someone please check my math!
mendax (321 D)
28 Aug 14 UTC
Ogion - I'm glad my incompetence was useful for something, even if that something was denying you the solo.
Ogion (3882 D)
28 Aug 14 UTC
I do feel like I owe y2k an apology after he did such a strong effort to throw it. I couldn't believe it when I retreated from Munich and Berlin the turn before that the north exploded in chaos that turn with Germany attacking France and England going after Germany like a savage dog. Lesson learned: never assume your opponents will actually unify to stop the solo!

Sigh....
Ogion (3882 D)
28 Aug 14 UTC
Also, there was some kind of prize @ for the final round, wasn't there? Or is this about bragging rights and good competition?
Barn3tt (41969 D)
28 Aug 14 UTC
Is there a solo prize? I seemed to recall something about that in the first round.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
28 Aug 14 UTC
100 D for each solo, and there are payouts to top 3 finishers in the finals. I don't recall the exact payouts off the top of my head, but something along the lines of 1000 for 1st, 500 for 2nd, 250 for 3rd. They should be mentioned in the original tourney thread that I don't have time right now to dig up.
Barn3tt (41969 D)

Cameron is so arrogant he won't change but today it was announced that net migration to the UK was 243,000 last year, Cameron has promised 50,000. He and his Old Etonian cronies seem to be the only people that don't realize there is a problem ..... he talks tough but acts like a pussy !!

Behaviorism
According to Wikipedia, “The behaviorist school of thought maintains that behaviors as such can be described scientifically without recourse either to internal physiological events or to hypothetical constructs such as thoughts and beliefs.”

Do you think this is appropriate? If so, does that make you optimistic or pessimistic about the prospects for human happiness?

Fairly Cheap Website Hosting and Webdesign
€7,50/month, €90/year to host a site with up to 5 GB of space and monthly bandwidth, my help when needed, many 1-click installations, webmail accounts for your domain, excellent reliability and English support. Easy. Quite all-inclusive except domain registration. That’s £5,99/month or $9.93/month. International transactions cost a bit too. Prices change. You can make me a personal offer. Price for webdesign depends on workload but think 3 digits. More inside.

What would happen if...
What would happen if I convoy an army from Belgium to Holland using my fleet in the north sea as well as order my other fleet at Holland to move to Belgium, simultaneously?
Is this possible?

PS: I know it would be same as ordering F:Hol->North Sea, F:North Sea-> Bel, A:Bel->Hol; but just curious. ;)

Gunboat support moves
I'm in a no messaging anonymous player game where I was dislodged because one player supported another into my territory. How common is it that without messaging a player would know the exact move to make to assist another? Should I report this to the mods? It just seems suspicious as there theoretically shouldn't be a way for the two players to communicate....
