Hurricane Sandy
I know a lot of people (myself included) are about to lose power for at least a few days, maybe longer. Is it possible that the mods could pause all games for those who will be afflicted, or maybe pause all games and make the users unpause them? Estimates are that at least 30 million people will be without power, probably more, in the northeast US.

US vs. UK: Parliamentary or Constitutional Govt.?
I've had a fun time debating it well enough with some political science major friends, so I thought I'd throw it out here and see what comes up--a Parliamentary system like the UK's, or a Constitutional system like the US's, which do you prefer, and why...moreover, assuming everyone here is in one or the other (and not, say, living under a dictatorship) if you could change your country's system to be more like the other's...would you?

Ann Coulter and the R-Word--What a Vapid, Self-Centered, Despicable, Stupid B----!
I'm sorry, you can criticize Obama all you like...but you DO NOT DARE insult the mentally handicapped and then whine that the "PC Police" are after you...no, I'm sorry, but someone were to call me a kike, and I was offended, that's not me being overly politically-correct it's YOUR being incendiary, insipid, vile, cruel, and altogether an example of the sort of person we do NOT need on the air waves or in this country WHATSOEVER.

@zmaj "without him losing loaves..." So, in other words, if you were a magic-user and didn't live in this universe you would be a thief?

You are a moronic fucktard.

Plus, your anaolgy sucks. Saying the musician doesn't know you stole Their content off the internet, and therefore it is OK is retarded. You are just a selfish, evil person.

Draug, I actually work. Sooo... don't you recognize the intrinsic worth of what you get because I work? Lol. What a jerk. No, rather, a typical slave, proud of what he's doing for the master. Hmmm... am I a communist in this matter? I don't think so. An anarchist would be more like it. I don't bother to imagine the society after the copyright has been destroyed. It's the work of other people. I'll just focus on destroying it.

And, zmaj, you miss my point about bread.

I'm saying the ingredients for bread are probably about 25 cents. If you wanted to, you could make your own bread for essential free without harming anyone. People don't do that, though, because they'd rather spend their time doing other things and pay for the convenience of pre-made bread.

Irony....we come to this site to play a copy-writed game for free.... :(
Draugnar (0 DX)

So a world without laws where mass murderers are free to roam the streets and kill as they please? That is what anarchy is. When you have no rulers, no laws, no police, then it becomes survival of the fittest. But the problem is those without morals and with the ability to kill are the most fit in that environment. And the great equalizer, the gun, already had it's time in that environment. We like to call it the old western frontier. Civlization has moved *beyond* such a barbaric system.

And if I knew what you did besides steal the work of others, maybe I would praise you. I praise the guy who collects my trash every week and the guy who drops my mail off at my house and the grill cook at the local Waffle House and the cleaning lady at my office. They are all worthy of praise and thanks and I give it to them every chance I get with a little thank you, or a compliment to the cook on an exceptionally well done burger, or a holiday card with a gift card in it taped to the top of my trash can/set inside my mailbox addressed to "mail carrier". But see, I appreciate whaty others do for me and I believe in reqarding them both financially and with sincere thanks and appreciation when possible.

Speaking of which: thank you mods for keeping this site so great and thank you Kestas for all the hard work you do writing the code for this site on which we play and chat.

@krellin

LOL

The difference there is that Hasboro is doing nothing to promote Diplomacy, nor do they have a product we're competing against, so it's probably OK.

If it ever came up, I'm sure we could get a fund raiser to pay off whatever Hasbro wanted to let us keep the site running. After all, he is making no money on it and the original creator knows about this site (we sent him that huge birthday card in the form of a Diplomacy board with digitally reproduced signatures from all around the world of WebDip members).

Draugnar (0 DX)

Maybe we alterthe code so you have to certify youown a board to create a game with the classic map (the other maps aren't owned by Hasbro).

I mean, that's how boardgames work. You don't bring two boards to a chess match.
Haha, I don't know who provided this entry, but the wikipedia listing for Internet Diplomacy contains this section:

Intellectual Property

The Diplomacy game is in copyright in most of the world, and in addition, Hasbro holds a trademark in the name. All the Avalon Hill intellectual property did not go to Avalon Hill allowing Valley games to reprint under the Avalon Hill title.[11] None of the implementations in this article hold a license from Hasbro or from Allan Calhamer. Since Scrabulous has been removed from Facebook, there is a concern that Hasbro may pursue other unlicensed Facebook implementations of their games.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Doubtful.

Scrabble is a huge cash cow for Hasboro. The only people who play Diplomacy are fat old men who play postal games anyone.

Now, if Diplomacy start becoming more popular, it would be interesting to see how Hasboro reacts.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

Also, it's not surprising Scrabulous players were unable to defend themselves. What are Srcabble players known for? Spelling.

What are Diplomacy players known for? Ruthless manipulation : )

If we ever got jacked over by Hasbro, it would be a simple matter to recruit some local brainiac college math major who could concoct a new map that mathematically models the current map in terms of connections points, position of nations, etc, but would be defensible in court as a unique item (we would never disclose the math...it would be burned...the map would just *appear* one day...).

In fact....I challenge someone to do just that...

Game Cancelled - Dark Summer
Hey all,

So I log in today, and have received a message that a game I was in called dark summer has suddenly been cancelled. I have no idea why? It was a World game that had been ongoing for quite a while. Is anyone able to point me to a reason why this game was cancelled? Or who I can contact to find out? I'm very confused and disappointed as this was an interesting game! Thanks.
