WTA vs PPSC
A frequent debate on this site. I'm of the WTA camp as I disdain the "strong second" PPSC mentality.
It seems that the inventor of the game, Allan Calhamer shared this view, arguing that the WTA objective provided for much more interesting end game drama.

Roman Legions vs. Mongol Hordes
To commemorate the 807th anniversary of the grand Quriltai which saw Temujin elected as Genghis Khan, I ask who would win a battle between a force of Mongols and a slightly larger force of Roman legions (for the sake of discussion, we will say from the late republic/early empire period) in a head-to-head matchup? Please discuss.

Is war between Russia and England more or less inevitable?
The Norway-StP corridor is very hard to DMZ. Perhaps conflict will always occur. I at least cannot think of a time in recent memory that they went the whole game without fighting (barring an early elimination of one or both).

Discouraging country based resigns thought...
Webdip uses a country weighting system where the more often you have been a country, the less a chance you have of being it again and vice versa. So how about use that to deal with people that abandon a game because they got a country they don't like?

Is it just because I'm in college or what?
Does anyone else have the experience that the time when gender issues and parity come most the fore is when a coed group of people goes partying together? Shit just happens and you have to make decisions based on that stuff more often than in normal life. At least I feel that way. Thoughts?

So has obiwanobiwan finally matured and can I take him off my mute list?
Obi need not answer. I won't see it. But does anyone else want to chime in with their opinion so I can decide if it is safe to take him off? I kind of miss his long winded posts, but he got so over the top with his youthful insistence he knew everything I had to mute him or kill him before his 21st birthday, and I thought the former was the better option.

I didn't want to kill you Alex, I was desperate to keep your armies but I couldn't make any more headway and at the time I attacked you I thought I could solo but I made a couple of mistakes that let France in :-( I actually put up the DRAW when you still had 1 SC because I wanted you to survive but that Boseph is ruthless !!

@ Nigee: Great game (#3). I didn't think I'd be able to pull it out.

@ Alex: I didn't realize Austria wanted to end it early (honestly, I didn't even notice he voted Draw). I thought for sure he was going to try and eliminate you for the win. My bad if I cost you a survive. Still, thanks for fighting so long. You put up a great effort.

@ Fortress: I wanted to scream at the computer a couple times trying to figure out your plans for England and the North Sea, but I enjoyed the game.

***The King Kong Fu King Kung Fu Showdown Tourney***
Game 1 - gameID=92429 - Won by BosephJennett
Game 2 - gameID=92430 - Won by Alex987
Game 3 - gameID=92431 - Won by BosephJennett
Game 4 - gameID=92432 - 4-way draw

Game 4 was interesting, well done to the France/England duet and Alex, his 15 looks to have secured him the runner-up spot but after 4 games we have a Champion, it's official, I do love a good BJ. Fortress has been left to prop up the table as bo_sox gets some points on the board........nearly done :-)

League positions after Game 4:
BosephJennett 52 ****King Kong Fu King Kung Fu Champion****
Alex987 33
NigeeBaby 24
djakarta97 9
Sydney City 9
bo_sox48 8
Fortress Door 1

Latest odds:
BosephJennett 6/1 - 2/1F - 3/1F - 5/2F - NO MORE BETS FOR 1ST PLACE
Alex987 3/1 - 10/1 - 12/1 - 7/2 - 2/1 - 1/10F for 2nd Place
NigeeBaby 16/1 - 12/1 - 14/1 - 10/1 - 100/1 for 2nd Place
Sydney City 3/1 - 10/1 - 12/1 - 8/1 - 20/1 - No more bets
djakarta97 33/1 - 7/1 - 12/1 - 20/1 - 10 - No more bets
bo_sox48 3/1 - 10/1 - 5/1 - 14/1 - 200/1 - No more bets
Fortress Door 12/1 - 20/1 - 1000/1 - No more bets

Game 3 - gameID=92431 - Won by BosephJennett
Game 4 - gameID=92432 - 4-way draw
Game 5 - gameID=92433 - 5-way draw

Game 5 was a bit like the night after the Lord Mayors parade as we had all but crowned our champion so I think the fight had gone from a lot of the players. Alex confirmed runners-up spot, well done. The good news was that Fortress finished joint last.....very good :-)

Final Legaue Positions after 5 Games:
BosephJennett 52 ****King Kong Fu King Kung Fu Champion****
Alex987 38 - **Runner-Up**
NigeeBaby 31
djakarta97 18
Sydney City 15
bo_sox48 8

I completely messed up game 5. I was trying to find the balance as Austria between defending myself against Italy and showing that I meant him no harm. In the end, I think all I did was piss off Fortress.

Still, good games all around. Thanks for setting it up Nigee.
Alex987 (174 D)
13 Jul 12 UTC
Game 5 was one of the most unique balances I've come across in this game, the game was very slow moving and one unit moving would change the whole situation of the board. Nigee, was that army in Tyrolia for Munich? I was going to trust you and assume that it wasn't.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
13 Jul 12 UTC
How very dare you, me attack Munich, me sir, no sir !!
Fortress Door (1837 D)
13 Jul 12 UTC
@Boseph

yeah, all that move to Venice did was tick me off.

And Nigee, i just love how in the end you moved your units away from me (Tyrolia being the exception). I was NOT going to trust him and i was going to block Vienna :p
BosephJennett (866 D)
13 Jul 12 UTC
@Fortress: the initial move to Venice was purely defensive to prevent you from getting units in Tyrolia and Venice that first autumn. I hoped the subsequent move to Albania would reveal my peaceful intentions, but I learned pretty quick that you were pissed.

That's one of the reasons I dislike playing Austria - Italy has such huge potential to be a great ally or a quick stab, and I have no idea how to prevent the latter possibility while protecting the former.
Fortress Door (1837 D)
13 Jul 12 UTC
Well, quite honestly. I probably would've gone for you anyways. In my mind, what i saw was you taking a cheap stab and then asking me to forgive you and that you wouldn't do it again.
BosephJennett (866 D)
13 Jul 12 UTC
Yeah, I can see how someone would read that. I deserved to lose that game.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
13 Jul 12 UTC
Boseph... if you are Austria, don't move Trieste. If you are Italy, don't move Venice. That's a sign of an alliance in gunboats at least, and in gunboats, you two allying is your only shot.

Fortress... I'm glad you earned your "participant" medal in this tournament. I am happy to say that you tried very hard and put full effort into this tournament. No matter how successful you were, all that matters is that you tried…
Fortress Door (1837 D)
13 Jul 12 UTC
@bo_sox

i attacked Austria and I did well. The only thing i find almost never works is Austria going for Italy, Italy going for Austria works just fine
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
13 Jul 12 UTC
If Russia and Turkey fight, then it can work. If I'm Turkey, it's really uncommon for me to stick with Russia even in the spring of 1901, but a lot of people do. I still don't know why because Turkey is hugely more powerful than Russia in that first phase and can have 9 centers by the end of 1902 if they align with Italy. In gunboats you can never really tell though.

If Italy opens to Trieste and gets it, they'll be fine, but if Austria is able to fight back, it'll just be a back-and-forth fight for many years until someone else backsides Austria.
