@PE - As I understand it, the prof's don't get assigned a nation. You profs will give commentary on all moves after they have posted. Only the TA's get assigned a nation and will be working exclusively with that player throughout.

At this point the following steps should occur:

1) A student needs to create the game with the following info:
36-48 hour phases (I prefer 48 since I'm a TA)
WTA
non-anon
small point buyin (less than 60, I recommend 50)
password protected
Title: SoW Summer 2011

Give the game 7 days to allow people to sign up. If the students listed above don't join by late Friday or early Saturday then an alternate will be used.

2) Create a forum thread with the same title and post the link to the game in the original post of the title so that professors and TA's don't have to scroll back to the beginning of the thread to find the game.

3) PM each of the students listed the password to the game (not the alternate students).

After all 7 people have joined and the game begins, only the professors are permitted to post within the game thread but the thread is free for anyone to read.

4) Students and/or TA's should contact their paired partner for the game just to make sure that they both know their roles and who each is assigned to.

Remember that this is a high profile game even though it's a low pot. Many people are putting a lot of their time into it and as such any NMR's or CD's will be looked on highly unfavorably and have negative repercussions in future sessions of the SoW for that player/TA. If you know that you're going to be away, please take the following actions:

students: please ask for a pause until such a time as you can appropriately return to the game. If it's longer than a week, please find a fill-in from the list of alternate students.
TA's: notify your student and find a temporary fill-in from among the alternate TA's because the game isn't going to pause from a missing TA.

assuming that no students win a free trip to hawaii or suffer a heart attack, I guess I'm waiting for another year.

So, just to make sure... I'm not supposed to give advice or ideas, but just comment on the results... that should be educational :P

NinjaIntervention needs the schooling more than I do.. I can drop to the alternate student list, or even alternate TA list (I'm only a point behind Cachimbo in GR afterall) so that he can get the experience. I was mostly wanting some help on my midgame and thus also my WTA strategies since that is where I'm weakest.

I'm sorta kinda honoured to even count as a possible TA and would certainly do my job as best I can. Like Leif though, I feel like I too could still use some schooling!!! If I'm to be on any reserve list, I would feel better to step in as a student than a TA.

I don't want to try to guilt Leif off of the list. I just thought that since I was most desperately in need of guidance, I would not be kicked out of the list in favor of players who seem to really be quite good.

With that list of TAs, I'm happy to be in the peanut gallery.

This is awesome. I'm so glad that the SoW has caught on and has had such a wonderful effect on folks that they want to come back and TA and others want to sign up etc. This is great.

I still wish we could dig up all the old advice threads - there were some phenomenal write-ups of early game and mid-game advice on those previous forum threads by some of the best players I've had the pleasure of playing with on this site including djbent, MadMarx, Jacob, and many more who are not even playing on here anymore. would be awesome to dig those up and archive them somehow.

meanwhile - I look forward to following the game when it starts ;) Great job Tru Ninja, Presdient Eden and others who have had a hand in getting this up and running! this is what our community is all about!!

No, no, its fine Triumvir. I suppose since I'm the only one who put it in my top three, I should be doing it. Just my last two Austrian games haven't gone so well :( I always get great starts though. Damn Italians always ruin things for me though (and end up getting eliminated themselves. Why do they do it? Its such a pain, because the only one that wins is Turkey or England or Germany or whoever it is.)

I enjoy playing Austria. It's a fun little challenge. You have to be at the top of your diplomatic game to play it. I work hard to try to make someone an offer that really benefits them. Often it involves either giving Turkey a leg up on Russia, Russia a leg up on Turkey or Italy a space for future expansion. It helps to also contact Germany and try to get him to help you make a deal with Russia's neutrality or even holding an allied position.

Russia is definitely not one of my better countries. The game I won with it was due to Turkey CDing and Austria/Germay being Meta's and CDing (names do not matter) And Italy/England/France decided to have their own war while I ate the CD countries. England/Turkey/Italy would be my better countries, know quite a few good openings with them (Italy's is limited anyway)

Couldn't the person in charge of this do that, and when one of the Students joins, they back out of the game?

I love that I'm the Italian TA. I just won the League B1 Game 4 today as Italy, so Italy is fresh on my mind.

His NMR caused the initial victory (capture of brest), but you would have won at Sev anyway, had he not NMR, the cut from Gal and the support from Arm/BS to Sev from Rum would have ended it regardless. Nj.
