Balon Greyjoy
So I find it interesting that based on the photos for Season 6 the show appears poised to go forward with the Ironborn Plot. I feel like they sort of "missed the boat" (ahah) on this. Balon should have died way back in Season 3. Now ironically enough by pacing it out the way they have you could argue Balon won the war of the five kings. (Hes the only one still alive among them!!)

Difference between being labelled and rejecting it, versus admitting to being a socialist, Yoyo.
wjessop (100 DX)
10 Feb 16 UTC
He rebutted that he was a socialist though. And is quite moderate. And has a record to prove that.

Sanders happily agrees that he is a socialist.

I don't think you should dismiss people so easily.

Well yoyo that could be a product of well... you know armchair political enthuisiasm? these arent americans who are offering up far more logical outcomes than most of the "actual" americans.

Bernie wont win. His campaign is not even about winning. Everything in his campaign is about setting the stage for a political revolution of social democracy that is ahead of its time. We still need Republicans to majorly fuck everything up again for that movement to happen. Right now were coming off the back of a pretty successful presidency lasting 8 years with no major military failures unless you count the (was it 6 people?) who died in Libya? Who even knows... not even sure Republicans know at this point.

Anyway to stay on topic worst case scenario say Hilary loses to Cruz in a general election. Well Cruz will not take long to irreversibly fuck something up. I would argue Cruz would be even more toxic than GW Bush for job growth and american foreign policy. We would be fully at war with Iran, Syria, Isis and maybe even North Korea within 2 years of a Cruz presidency.

A Trump presidency would actually be hilarious. Because hes a total liar. Nothing he has promised Republicans on the campaign trail will ever happen and he knows it. As President Trump would go left and completely fuck his own party over because he hates being controlled or strongarmed. If anyone is going to do the strongarming its Trump.

Hillary and Bernie will have identical Presidencies regardless of who wins for the first two years. No Republicans in Congress give a shit which wins they would block every bit of liberal legislation that either tries to throw out there. They hated Obama they arent going to suddenly become generous. This is a Congress with a 13% approval rating. Sanders is right we need a Revolution! Every single member of Congress needs to be dropped off in the Ocean somewhere at this point.

Senate race is much closer. I imagine it will be quite heated as the races amp up in the fall. You could be looking at any one of 3 scenarios, a Democrat takeover of senate (most likely), a Republican control of Senate remains (maybe), or a Tie, which would throw it to whichever side claims the Presidency.

Keep in mind the Senate is losing Rubio and Sanders. But it looks like Rand Paul is scurrying back to his principled little ivory tower for now.

In conclusion so much attention is being paid to the Presidency here, and really the key part of Sanders message is being lost to his supporters. WE NEED A ALL OF THE ABOVE REVOLUTION! Congress, Senate, Supreme Court, Presidency! All of it to make these dreams of cheaper education, and healthcare a reality.

You don't need a "revolution", you need a gradual and steady change in ideology that will lead to a better, more stable state that will properly be able to develop the infrastructure and system needed to run a proper socialist nation. Not an overnight revolution ffs
Durga (3609 D)
10 Feb 16 UTC
Your "revolution" will only divide your already terribly bipartisan country even more, you might even see conservatism growing as a backlash.
brainbomb (290 D)
10 Feb 16 UTC
It wont happen until another major economic bubble bursts like the current risk of default on all those high risk Shale productions. Many of the Fracking Loans are currently in a dire situation.

Add to that a Republican throwing a massive Middle East war in there, and boom you got yourself a 1 term crap out President. Sounds like exactly what you would get with Cruz. And just like the backlash America had after Bush (which catapulted Obama to the Presidency) you have set the stage for a political swing.

Did you know that in 2008 Democrats controlled House, Senate, and Presidency? Well that happened because just about everyone was disgusted with Bush. They hated Republicans and the entire Republican Party. John McCain could have had Jesus as his running mate and still lost.

These type of revolutions go in cycles and then the opposite happens. One of the reasons that the 2008 Political Revolution was not as prominent (only lasted 2 years) was that America was buried in 2 wars, Recession, and Obama had to push for his Healthcare reforms he promised in the election. Add in Bailouts, Stimulus, and a number of had to be done policies and the Tea Party was the counter revolution.

Now there is no major political revolution. There is no precedent for there to be yet. Not until something happens like scenarios mentioned above would anyone have any reason to think anything needs to change. Its more a statement of an electorate that only cares about shock and awe.

Our "revolution" will alienate those who oppose change for the better based on their own selfish interests, starting with those in Washington and legislatures around the nation. It will divide us from those who think that that fight isn't important and that the sorry state of things is acceptable. We don't want to be one with those people anyway.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
10 Feb 16 UTC
Bb, if you think there is no major political revolution, look at the voting numbers by demographic and please tell me that that is normal.
brainbomb (290 D)
10 Feb 16 UTC
Ultimately my point is that this election will be a lot more like the 2000 Election where Bush narrowly edged Gore (or did he?).

I think Hillary will carry a few more states than Trump, maybe it will even be one of those ugly recount elections who knows. Trump probably steals a few states from Hillary. I dont think Hillary wins as strongly as Obama did in 08 or 12.

You might see a brutal campaign over Florida and Ohio. with one of the two stealing each.

Trump isn't going to win the GOP nomination.
Octavious (2701 D)

The Senate will either be Democrat controlled, Republican controlled, or tied? You have to give brainbomb credit, it's damned hard to argue with that level of analysis...

I think the revolution is going to result in an awful lot of disillusioned young voters who wont show up to vote because their candidate didnt win and they are generally apathetic about Trump v Clinton.

I still think Clinton wins but I dont imagine the youth vote that is stealing all the headlines will be as impassioned or thrilled about the general election. This election cycle has the look of being the opposite of Obama v Hillary, it doesnt seem to be warming people up to both candidates. It is certainly making people more and more angry at how politics happen which tends to lead to apathy.
Octavious (2701 D)
10 Feb 16 UTC
@ bo

The demographics are extremely interesting. I'd have never have expected Trump to command such a large percentage of the young vote and the female vote. Came as a genuine shock.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
10 Feb 16 UTC
That's exactly what would happen, bb. The overwhelmingly one-sided younger demographic would be alienated and disillusioned and wouldn't care to vote. I would vote Trump or basically any Republican except Cruz over Hillary, as I've already said in the past, but the fact of the matter is that the Democratic party will lose a huge number of votes by nominating Hillary and they will gain a huge number of independents by nominating Sanders if Trump or Cruz gets the GOP nomination.
brainbomb (290 D)
10 Feb 16 UTC
Indeed Octavius, consider that half the people commenting on here are from Canada, the UK, the Azores, Mars, who the hell knows. They seem to talk an awful lot about how much they know about the Presidency and yet seem to ignore the House and Senate as being part of the political atmosphere. Surely the Senate is one of the few slam dunks Democrats can relish upon at this stage....but we just arent hearing alot about that. Two years ago when the Republicans stole it CNN and FOXNews called it a huge moment in American History. Name me one significant piece of legislation that this Conservative Senate has produced...

(The trade deal, the Iran Nuclear deal?) Are these really popular bits of success? I was of the impression these policies were hated by both sides.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
10 Feb 16 UTC
@Octavious ... there are actually a number of things Trump says that I and many other Sanders supporters would agree with. The media chooses to focus on the more explosive and frankly stupid things he says, which is fine, but on the whole, a number of his policy proposals make sense and the ones that don't, such as the wall paid for by Mexico and the total ban of Muslims, won't happen anyway no matter what he says.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))
10 Feb 16 UTC
wjessop, I think it's pretty obvious that if Bernie wins the popular vote by a large enough margin in the nomination, and the convention shrugs him off, then much of the Democratic Party's base will sit out November because what's the point?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
10 Feb 16 UTC
The Iran deal wasn't supported by conservatives, so that can't be. The TPP is most definitely significant in forwarding the fasttrack to corporate capitalism if we aren't there already, so I would say that matters. Obama and many Democrats signed it, though, so you can't call it solely conservative. They haven't done anything on their own without at least a degree of bipartisanship.
Durga (3609 D)
10 Feb 16 UTC
@y2k if the Democratic party is made up of idiots who would rather see a lunatic like Cruz or Trump be POTUS than Hillary, who fights for many of the same things Bernie does, just in a less extreme way - because they feel bitter, then the party deserves to lose. Don't be ridiculous, there is always a point - Hillary stands for much more progressive policies than any Republican candidate. Any sane Bernie supporter would understand that and vote for her.
brainbomb (290 D)
10 Feb 16 UTC
Where are you getting your facts bo?

The TPP was approved 60-38 with Bipartisan support...
The Iran deal was 53-45 in favor of rejecting the Congressional attempt to crush it. With a Republican majority... curious how you get those numbers unless some Republicans flip flopped or just didnt give a shit.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))

DemonOverlord, the fact of the matter is that many Bernie supporters aren't sane, they are angry.

@Octavious:

" I'd have never have expected Trump to command such a large percentage of the young vote and the female vote. Came as a genuine shock. "

It seems the rise of fascists often comes as a shock slightly too late to the moderates.

I will vote for Hillary over Trump or Cruz. I might very well vote for Jeb over Hillary if she wins the nomination because of superdelegates.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
10 Feb 16 UTC
@bb ... I said that the TPP was approved with bipartisan support and I said that the Iran deal was not widely supported by conservatives. The split vote confirms that, so evidently you are getting your facts from the same place that I was. Do you have a question for me?
Durga (3609 D)
10 Feb 16 UTC
@y2k if you vote for a conservative over Hillary because you're angry at superdelegates then you're an idiot.

This is the current Senate numbers...

Beginning in (January 3, 2015) 44 Democrats 2 Independent 54 Republicans

Total of 100.

In the 2016 Senate race there are 34 seats up in 2016, of which 24 are held by Republicans. Democrats will need to gain 4 or 5 seats to take control.
