I like the notion of expanding the pool, so 49 could work. I've never been a big fan of wildcards, because that roughly gives people advancement from being in a relatively unbalanced group. (As a soccer fan, I've had this conversation a LOT!)

Did we come up with the formula for having 7 players each play each country once with randomizing the neighbors? If so, I'd love to see it because I struggled with this math problem for a while and failed

@2WL - First, I am fine with 42 or 49 or whatever ... I also am just happy someone else (you!) is doing the work for the tourney, so do not take any of this as criticism.

Here is the point I was trying to make about bump-able applicants.

1. There were 43 people signed up (44 now if you add guak) ... that means 1 current applicant was already scheduled to be bumped even before maettu and guak get priority.

2. There were 6 people with less that 95 RR: NigeeBaby (90), ssorenn (91), Peaceinourtime (92), taylor4 (92), Captain Tomorrow (93) and Hellenic Riot (93), but as you pointed out, CT qualifies based on his 18 GR rank.

Taken together, that means that Nigee is out (if we limit it to 42 players) and ssorenn is also out if we add guak. I think you already said that. However, there are still 3 players with less than a 95 RR that are subject to being bumped based on your description ... or at least based on my interpretation of your description.

So ... if there is any more interest out there among high RR players, now is the chance to jump in.

@Ogion -- You are right about the math problem ... randomizing neighbors is where it breaks down. There is an interesting solution for 56 players (if my memory is correct), though, where everybody plays against everybody exactly once, but I would have to dig to find it.

I agree with Gold. Keep it at 42, knock out the low RR, knock out the unranked, then the low ranked.

Better to hand a simple number that works and is manageable than one which is not manageable or makes running it more difficult.

Fixed this for you. Moved the lowest RR players (with RR < 95, excluding top 25 GR) down to alternate status after 42 spots filled. I think that is what you stated anyway.

how does it make sense to leave out currently active players like nigee or ssorenn while including guys like xorxes, who played a single game in the last three years?

1) They aren't excluded yet. That's people not understanding how things work
2) we thought about having a min game requirement but having 35 games on the site is more than enough
3) Might be a bad example seeing as back when he was playing gunboat he was playing and drawing with some of the best of the best on the site

If someone comes in with a day 1 account with 3 or less games to it, then I might be much more inclined to step in.

It doesn't to me but that was the rule 2WL and Valis came up with. If we lowered RR threshhold to 90% from 95 then all of the alternates would be back in the field except taylor4 but then the last 4 names on the list would get bumped off.
