The Golden Age of Diplomacy
Does anyone else find reading Sharp's "The Game of Diplomacy" really depressing? The level of dedication and analysis that he presents in the book would never be found today. Does anyone even talk about diplomacy theory anymore, or are we just left to reading relics of the past?

Homework this week
Your homework this week is to speak to an octogenarian. We won't have them for very much longer and so I think it's important for young people to meet these guys.

Hippies aren't quite the same. They're uptight in a way that the people older than them weren't.

Feature Idea
So, I play a lot of live games, and I make a lot of them. I would love an option that would let players make games where any NMR in the first year is an instant cancel. So, that way there's no situation where a Germany NMR's and England/France/Russia take advantage and go on to become monster powers.

HEY! LOOK GUYS...

A Gun Debate on WebDip!

...Ah...I think I'll just kick back and watch this one as the question "Why Can't Everyone Just Realize That Everyone Carrying Guns Is A GREAT Deterrent...Except When It Isn't And When It Creates A Society Some Find The Very Antithesis Of Liberty" is championed by Sgt. Krellin's Looney Half-Cocked Band and enjoy.

Well I hate to interrupt the show,
But I thought you might like to know,
That this ain't here the Wild Wild West
And folks don't past the John Wayne test,
So may I introduce to you,
Still spouting this, after all these years,
SGT. KRELLIN'S LONELY HALF-COCKED BAAAAAAND....

(Heeeeeee's haaaaaad maaaaaany beeeeeeers!)

What would you think if I shot out of place
Would you stand up and still applaud me?
Lend me some clips and I'll take another shot
Due Process? Ha! I'll take it upon me
To Bet By With a Little Help From My Guns,
Yes, I Get By With a Lottle Help From My Guns,

(Who has it out for you?)
Everyone, I trust no one for sure, OH!
I Get By With a Little Help From My Guns,
Shoot Myself With a Little Help From My Guns,
Shoot My Family With Little Help From My Guns,
(The 2nd Amendment tells you--)
It tells me I'm John Rambo for sure!
("A well-regulated militia"--oooo)
I'm a one-man-army when I'm insecure, oh
I Get By With A Little Help From My Guns,
Gotta Try With a Little Help From My Guns,
Murder Rate's High With a Little Help From My Guns,
(Do you need anybody?)
I just need my Glock and AK!
(Could it be anybody?)
It sure can thanks to the NRA, OH!
I Get By With a Little Help From My Guns,

Obi - it's really too bad that (especially) as an English major you haven't a shred of writing talent. Oh sure...you can spew all over the pages...but your ability to effectively convey information is completely lacking (which makes you a suck-ass worthless writer), and you sadly perceive yourself as somehow humorous/thoughtful when in truth you are trite and drab.

Truly pathetic...

Anyway - thanks again for demonstrating that Libtards have nothing of value but attack attack attack when they don't like an argument. I guess the African-American Chief of Police, who came from a very successful position in LA, is just a moron, huh?
krellin (80 DX)
15 Jan 14 UTC
Final point to the moronic asshole -- it isn't my thread, douchebag. Again...as an English major, you seem to be completely lacking in English skills...like READING COMPREHENSION.

I've actually barely participated in this thread...but like the typical attack-dog libtard, you just attack wantonly without thought.

Yay for you, poo flinging homosexual monkey-boy.

Yeah, it is a shame I'm such a Nowhere Man...

I mean, I really could use some Help! here to Carry the Weight, because you're just a Day Tripper worse than that Fool on the Hill thinking Happiness is a Warm Gun--

But maybe I should just Let It Be.

...Aaaaaand does it matter that he's an African-American?

It...it doesn't, right?

I mean, you're the one always accusing me of race-baiting and introducing race as a descriptor or topic where it need not apply and here you are sticking it in there like you expect it to mean something and--

Oh, wait.

The End.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)

"Yay for you, poo flinging homosexual monkey-boy."

Full disclosure--

Maybe I don't have talent...and I'm sure I'll fail many times before I succeed (if I do)...

But I'd take your critique of me as a writer more seriously if your insults were a little more "Thou rash, wretched intruding fool, farewell! I took thee for thy better" and less...um...that.
krellin (80 DX)
15 Jan 14 UTC
Really don't care if you take my critique seriously...everyone here agrees with me - it is spoken of often. Not only are you a horrifyingly bad writer, your trite, overused falling back on old dead white men is, again, simply a sign that you lack any true talent or creativity.

But I'm glad to see I pissed you off enough to throw you off your attack and make you reply, dance monkey. Now fling your poo, homo-boy.
Randomizer (722 D)
15 Jan 14 UTC
"But here's a better point, Randomizer....sometimes the COPS commit crime and kill people without cause and abuse their power. Sometimes the *court* system locks up innocent people"

@krellin - I have seen it happen and know that no one got punished since the only law firm that was willing to do something had to withdraw due to conflict of interest. So I am in favor of increased regulation and a regulation group that will go after corrupt courts and cops. The probate court in my area, Maricopa County of Arizona, is so corrupt that even when it's publicly reported the illegal dealing, all they get is oh yes that is illegal but nobody is going to get punished except those that complained about it.

If you want to get rich quick become a private fiduciary here, loot the people you are protecting of millions of dollars, and then dissolve the company when they complain walking away with the money. All that will happen is you can't do it again with the same company.
Randomizer (722 D)

"Maybe because he was trying to discourage the thieves without actually killing any one. You know, warning shots? Duh!"

@Draugnar - So he was firing a warning shot at an innocent witness, too? She was quoted as saying she felt the bullet whiz by her before hitting her car. I bet her insurance company is going after him for damages. A few inches over and he would have been arrested at the scene.

So Randomizer...when you see the human-controlled law-enforcement/court system fail - sometimes at the cost of innocent lives - you don't call for the banishment of said human-controlled system, even though rotten humans will always fuck the system up....

....but a gun -- a human controlled object -- you think *must* be banned even though a statistically insignificant number of guns are used improperly in criminal behavior?

It's estimated that there are around 300 MILLION guns owned in the US (NOT including military and law enforcement).

There were 32,000 gun deaths in 2011.

So that means 0.01% of guns were used to kill someone...and most likely, given that much gun violence is caused in criminal activity, it's probably a fair assumption to say a single gun is often used in multiple deaths...

So statistically, a gun is a pretty fucking safe device.

There are around 250 Million cars with 32,000 related deaths. 0.013%.....

Cars are deadlier than guns.

Krellin, guns are actually designed for killing. That's what they're for. I'm not in favor of banning firearms, but don't muddy the waters with a car analogy, who the fuck would take that seriously?
steephie22 (182 D(S))
16 Jan 14 UTC
Krellin, honestly, looking at those percentages only convinces me to ban guns rather than the opposite. A gun is almost as deadly as a car and much less useful.

'So Randomizer...when you see the human-controlled law-enforcement/court system fail - sometimes at the cost of innocent lives - you don't call for the banishment of said human-controlled system, even though rotten humans will always fuck the system up....' yeah but when the courts fail you can appeal, nobody has died, and if a death is the penalty (which is banned in 46 of 47 european states... leaving the US keeping good company with Belarus, lagging behind even Russia, but i digress) - the appeals process can take years! (ok, in China they execute within about a week, afaik, so the US is at least sligthly better positioned there...)

When a human operated gun goes wrong it can be immediately fatal.
krellin (80 DX)
16 Jan 14 UTC
Steephie - thanks for demonstrating what a true mental midget you are. You know, it is totally feasible to get rid of personal automotbiles as well - they are by no means necessary, as a robust public transportation could replace the personal automobile with a long list of benefits, starting with massive reduction in deaths by automobile. Followed by new government jobs, massive reduction in pollution (for all you that need to "save the planet" etc. In the long run, any good and decent liberal would be fighting tooth and nail for the elimination of the personal automobile - which is a purely selfish, expensive, polluting contraption.

A gun serves a very valid purpose -- other than the simple enjoyment of target shooting and hunting, ir provides for *personal protection*, as it is *impossible* for the police to be everywhere at all times to prevent people from being attacked.

You, perverse and disgusting person that you are - would rather criminals be *guaranteed* that their intended victims are unarmed so as to ensure that all criminals have the upper hand against law-abiding citizens. I can think of no more hateful and evil a concept that forcing the disarming of citizens and depriving them the ability to protect themselves.

"Cars are not deadlier than guns."
Statistically your more likely to die in a car accident then being shot by a gun. So actually cars are more dangerous.

"An accident is not murder.

My God, mapleleaf, for once I agree with every word you've said...and it was intelligent, I'm shocked!

(Though I do feel a bit cheated on, I mean, how DARE you point out what an ad-hoc fool krellin is...that's supposed to be OUR thing, I write something, you troll...I thought we had something special here! Do I no longer satisfy you are...are we breaking up, mapleleaf?)
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
16 Jan 14 UTC
"Statistically your more likely to die in a car accident then being shot by a gun. So actually cars are more dangerous."

I'd argue that depends on how you qualify "dangerous"--

People don't see them as dangerous in part, I think, because cars are not INTENDED to crash and kill people...and generally don't, for as many car crashes as there are.

Planes, trains, and automobiles all fall into that category--
Can they kill people?
Yep.
A whole bunch?
Yep.
But crazy drivers/jihading pilots aside, do people intend to crash them and kill people?
No.
Is their primary function to kill?
No.
Are they designed with killing in mind?
Aside from military planes, no.

So the intent isn't there, and so they're perceived as less dangerous.

You can't say that for guns...

Guns ARE designed with killing in mind (defense or otherwise, it's still killing.)

Guns DON'T serve any other purposes besides killing (again, for defense, for murder, or what have you) and recreation (hunting, sport shooting, etc.)

Drive up to someone's house, and they won't feel threatened.

Pull a gun on someone, they'll consider that a threat...because it's perceived as a threatening, DANGEROUS action.
krellin (80 DX)
16 Jan 14 UTC
Mooooooor-ons on parade. Oh...so if you are killed by a death machine that wasn't "intended" to kill you, I guess you are less dead, and your family will grieve less.

I see. I guess that's how midget-brained Canadians operate and their Jesus-killing homosexual counterparts. Thanks for playing maple and obi...thanks for showing us your complete and utter lack of intellectual rigor.
krellin (80 DX)
16 Jan 14 UTC
Actually, if *I* were to pull a gun on someone, it is intended to be dangerous, becuase most likely I am pulling it on the asshole that has invaded my home, and his death will be on *his* hands, not mine. So I'm quite appareciative of the deadly capacity of my firearm.

Morons.
krellin (80 DX)
16 Jan 14 UTC
Maple and Obi, on the other hands, will drop trouser and bend over, hoping that a good voluntary ass-fucking will cause the home invader to let them live....plus they just love a good ass-fucking. But most likely the home invader will ass-fuck them THEN shoot them in the head.
krellin (80 DX)
16 Jan 14 UTC
Has anybody around here ever noticed that the anti-gun lobby NEVER EVER has an answer for how you are to defend yourself in your home?
tendmote (100 D(B))
16 Jan 14 UTC
(+1)
Guns are for killing. Cars are for driving. On a typical day many people drive. On a typical day most people don't kill. So yeah, accidental death by car occurs more often. That's TOTALLY IRRELEVANT to whether or not guns should be legal.

(Also, I'm not sure why anyone would emphasize that guns are "safe." A weapon that is less dangerous than a car is a shitty weapon.)

I'm not in favor of banning firearms but guns are dangerous, and meant to be dangerous. Anyone who tries to portray them as more benign than cars is being dishonest.
mapleleaf (0 DX)
16 Jan 14 UTC
kkkrellin, I demand that you retract your anti-Semitic comment. It is unacceptable in this, or any other, community.
krellin (80 DX)
16 Jan 14 UTC
maple - I demand that you remove your cock from the Jesus-killer Obi's ass.
krellin (80 DX)
16 Jan 14 UTC
Sorry...you already took it from his ass, and apparently it is now in his mouth...my bad.
krellin (80 DX)
16 Jan 14 UTC
tendmote - a gun used safely is safe to law-abiding citizens. A gun used within legal boundaries is not dangerous to law abiding citizens.

This is very much the *exact same* as how a car, used legally, is generally safe, and only becomes dangerous when used improperly or illegally.

A gun is NOT INTENDED TO KILL INNOCENT PEOPLE.

You disengenuous lying morons who insist a gun's purpose is to kill innocent people are pathetic. That is *NOT* it's purpose.

So...since a gun only kills innocent when used improperly and OUTSIDE the law....just like a car only kills when used improperly and outside the law...they are morally EQUIVALENT.

Except....except there is a higher likelihood of "innocent accidents" with an automobile....meaning that to a law-abiding citizen a car is much more deadly.

So...man up, fucktards, and start calling for the banning of personal automobiles both to save lives AND "save the planet" (last last part really should be giving you libtards a hard-on...)
