Is there anyway...
I could be un-banned? I've played on this site since 2007 and have very much enjoyed my time here. I got banned because one of my friends spelled his name wrong in the forum. Apparently this was seen as an act of disrespect to _The Moderators_. I never disrespected _The Moderators_.

Serious question......
....... if there was a training course on things such as personal development, self-awareness, self-confidence, public speaking, etc, etc what aspects of this (if any) would help you in your life ?
What things do you think would help people be more effective ?

Which dumbass thought we should call everyone who isn't white "People of Colour"?
1. Black isn't a colour.
2. White is all colours.
3. White people change colour when cold, ashamed, hot, sick, dead, and they're born pretty red. Black people stay black.
"People of colour" is probably the most offensive way to call black people, right before "nigger".

I'm not saying people have to join these games, that's not I'm saying here. However people who have joined games very similar to these games get a lot more head than other sad losers ....... just saying, no pressure !!

That's my thought AviF, so if everyone agrees (and really everyone! We all agreed (or didn't disagree) to these rules when we joined after all, can't force someone to do something else or be kicked out of the tournament now...), we could go for apa after all...
krellin (80 DX)
12 Nov 13 UTC
ok. (I assume you are looking for agreement here?)

What are we agreeing to?
FolliesOfSpain (113 D)
12 Nov 13 UTC
If we do an apa leage, pairs aren't important, as all the world will play with all the world. That means that we can play 2 or more games at once. If you agree I only have to do a chart and post he results.

Question: Do the past moves of a game affect your future moves, or do you take the board as a "static" entity each time it is your time to move, rejecting history in favor of whatever gives the advantage moving forward? (Does that make sense?)

I ask because of this: "but I'd rather play black and white in somewhat equal numbers, to prevent confusion... "

Confusion about what? Each board, as you find it, can only move forward from where it is - so what would you be confused about?
steephie22 (182 D(S))
12 Nov 13 UTC
I try to look at it as a "static" entity but the human brain has the habit of making shortcuts where it thinks it can. I'd swear I was playing Evan's Gambit or however it's called in English in another game and it just wasn't that...

Also, my dad was talking about how he was going to make a separate portion of macaroni for me without all the disgusting ingredients he adds to it.
However, when he served it, I was looking at lasagna. It completely took me by surprise. He was talking about lasagna all along though, I just assumed he was talking about macaroni when he was talking about a separate portion for me and I mostly ignored the rest he said.

Now I'm an extreme case probably, but taking shortcuts is efficient, but sometimes you just make a mistake when it comes to pretty irrelevant things like chess.

If that makes sense...
FolliesOfSpain (113 D)
12 Nov 13 UTC
Thank you for the document, mendax.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
12 Nov 13 UTC
Basically, sometimes you think you recognise something so you assume that's what it is without actually thinking it through properly.

If you want an actual chess-example, look here, turn 19: http://gameknot.com/chess.pl?bd=20440524&rnd=67752

I assumed there was a pawn at f7 making me lose my queen... I think I did so because I was playing another game simultaneously in which I had been considering the same trick.

It's really just a small preference though. If you want to give me white 11 times I would actually like that, but if I play 6 white 5 black in the end I'd rather play white-black-white-black etc...

I have no strong opinions on tournament organization. 2-day turns is good. Otherwise, whatever the powers that be decide is fine.

12 Nov 13 UTC
By the way, I have sent the challenge to slyguy.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
12 Nov 13 UTC
@krellin: well, that theory about shortcuts isn't that innovative by me if that's what you mean... It's used by some illusionists for example. I suppose using it as an argument for having black and white in chess instead of one colour twice could be a unique implementation though :)

I have always thought of it as something you can stimulate to practically train yourself to think more efficiently, although I didn't know the theory as a little kid naturally, but, I don't know... I suppose I just noticed a trend?
So yeah, you make mistakes every now and then but I think it's worth it.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
12 Nov 13 UTC
So now you should know enough to say if I'm mad or brilliant :)

Hello all
Its been a while. I'd like to play some quality gunboat games for old times sake. I'd like to be at least 101 point buy in. 24-36 hour phases so everyone has time to get moves in. etc. This is sort of an invitational so I'd like to get some good players to play against.

Why do people play Gunboat?
I'm not denouncing the game mode here. I was just wondering why people want to play Diplomacy without the negotiation aspect. To me, it seems to defeat the purpose of playing the game. I would be happy if someone could clarify this for me.

Why are there non anonymous games?
Since meta gaming is strictly prohibited and frowned upon I have to say I see no benefit to having non anonymous games. All it does is allow people to carry grudges or othe stuff from past games rather than playing the game at hand. Similarly, there seems to be no clear reason why usernames can't also change
