Mansplaining and manscaping
I heard people use the term mansplaining recently. It was negatively stigmatized but what does it even mean? Also I head people saying something about manscaping and I wondered if that was a type of yard work. Any input is appreciated.

I used to buy into Utilitarianism. One day I had to choose between saving a child or saving a room full of scientific specimens worth millions. The specimens were superhuman embryos. Eggs.

An athiest told me that embryos werent people. So I have decided that I no longer believe in Utilitarianism.

It is better to be a pig satisfied.

It is better to enjoy the mud and be cooked into bacon. John Stuart mill was a phony.

Dear Demon Overlord/Overload ( I just love that pun on your player name ) & others who regard themselves as having some wisdom regarding Feminism
..Is it OK for me not to be a feminist ? After all, I am a Daffy old fuddy duddy bloke. I choose to support some of the ideals of feminism, but not all. Plus I have many human weaknesses and only a few human virtues. Frankly I would feel ridiculous claiming that I was a feminist.
Also the very proposition that The Fire Breathing MemSahib, Her Indoors lounging around on a sofa eating cakes is not, in many/most ways my superior, and my benevolent dictator is risible. Mostly, she commands & I obey, although she does often "turn her blInd eye" towards my scallywaggery as an indulgence on her part. In addition to fearing her wrath, I do have affection for Her Imperiousness.
So I do not want to be regarded as a feminist. I am just an eccentric old duffer. But I am empathetic to the plight of many women, dispossessed of power, abused, exploited etc.
I simply cannot, on my own, solve the world's problems, or the problems facing women. But I have, for many, many years sponsor'd through well run charities, young girls in Muslim communities in what are labelled "third world countries" ... helping to give the poor little blighters basic health and education services. I don't get involved personally with them, like travel to visit them etc. I just give them a bit of help and let them live their lives as best as they are able.
I support abortion rights for women and the provision of proper publicly funded health services for women that include abortion services, as well as supporting the welfare services for single mothers. Although the conservative part of me has concerns about "negligent" parents of both sexes who misuse welfare support and do not properly meet their children's health and educational needs.
Plus the radical feminists can be a rather unforgiving crowd towards an old blighter like me, I suspect that they make certain assumptions, not always complimentary... given a choice of "spending time in their company" or charging a machine gun position..well I think I'd rather take on the machine gun position, but most of all, prefer to escape to the sanctuary of the golf club.
So I declare myself to not be, in my assessment, a feminist.

ND, you can't do it alone. Get a liberal.
I don't know any shows where liberals and conservatives actually discuss topics together in a productive manner yet. You could be the first.

Brain: you still misread my comments. It was’t one day I switched. I said it took about two years. I bring up that point because the line that atheist said was a recruiting line that worked into actual evangelical feminism.religions and militant political systems recruit like that. I rejected feminism because of the claims it made in reality.

It is unnecessary to be a feminist to believe in and personally advocate for equality of the sexes.

Feminism means working for true equality between men an women, and working to correct the mistreatment of women in the past, and taking steps to pursue equality in the future. never understood why this was controversial for people who don't want to subjugate women.

women and men are equal at least in the United States.. so, you can't make anyone more equal than someone else bud. hence, the reason why it is a cult.

ishirkmywork gets it in one.

I/m waiting for shigzeo and ND to explain why they think women are inferior. That ought to be hilarious.

Feminism is not about "true equality", it is about dismantling patriarchy. There is a fuckton of patriarchy resonating throughout this awful thread. Only after patriarchy is smashed to little bits will "equality" be a sensible goal.

When it comes to women's bodies, only one person can morally decide what happens to a woman's body: that woman. It is her body. You can't fucking control her, for fuck's sake.

Any other stance is shit, and I don't care to debate anyone who holds such a stance. Indeed (and not to sanction any violence) if anyone here was willing to use physical force to prevent that woman controlling what is done to her body, I would be willing to use physical force to protect her, and to prevent you.

First of all feminism is not like choosing a school of magic. You dont reach level 4 feminism and claim to know what it is.

You claimed you saw some off putting shitty speaker who ruined feminism for you over the course of some two year period. Great.

Having been an Adjunct at a four year college; I taught Feminist Art. I researched the Feminist Art movement and here are some facts.

¤Women were grossly underrepresented in the major galleries and museums in the 1980's and this trend is still not corrected.

¤there are more female art students than male by staggering numbers.

¤women are less represented in Arts faculty nationwide than male counterparts.

¤At one point pre-baroque women were not even allowed to produce art.

¤the feminist art movement was to create awareness about the lack if representation in the arts community and elsewhere.

Check this out.

YouTube is one of the most toxic, women hating places on the internet. There is no way I'd show my face to talk feminism on it, the amount of death and rape threats I'd get would be ridiculous.

my challenge to every man who cares about this is to every day find ways to give up your power. give it up. give your power to a woman, give your voice to a woman. it's the only way to correct our mistakes. It is so easy for men to coast along in life compared to women. Give it up.

Well I just told The Fire Breathing MemSahib that I didn't regard myself as a feminist and she might have confirmed that opinion, in a roundabout fashion. "What would you know about it, you silly man ?" was her endearing riposte, quickly followed by a command to "You'd better be off outside and prune the Roses."
So like the good Centurion of Biblical eminence who goeth when told to goeth I am bound for the Roses & bid you all adieu.

gasp, you mean private companies can set wages how they want? gasp, I guess you shouldn't work for an employer that underpays omg.

Now that I've gotten everybody's attention, would anybody be interested in playing a game of American Empire where everybody plays as the region that they are from? I think that might be kinda fun and could be a way to release some of this clearly geographical tension that is brewing in the forums.
