Dear Demon Overlord/Overload ( I just love that pun on your player name ) & others who regard themselves as having some wisdom regarding Feminism
..Is it OK for me not to be a feminist ? After all, I am a Daffy old fuddy duddy bloke. I choose to support some of the ideals of feminism, but not all. Plus I have many human weaknesses and only a few human virtues. Frankly I would feel ridiculous claiming that I was a feminist.
Also the very proposition that The Fire Breathing MemSahib, Her Indoors lounging around on a sofa eating cakes is not, in many/most ways my superior, and my benevolent dictator is risible. Mostly, she commands & I obey, although she does often "turn her blInd eye" towards my scallywaggery as an indulgence on her part. In addition to fearing her wrath, I do have affection for Her Imperiousness.
So I do not want to be regarded as a feminist. I am just an eccentric old duffer. But I am empathetic to the plight of many women, dispossessed of power, abused, exploited etc.
I simply cannot, on my own, solve the world's problems, or the problems facing women. But I have, for many, many years sponsor'd through well run charities, young girls in Muslim communities in what are labelled "third world countries" ... helping to give the poor little blighters basic health and education services. I don't get involved personally with them, like travel to visit them etc. I just give them a bit of help and let them live their lives as best as they are able.
I support abortion rights for women and the provision of proper publicly funded health services for women that include abortion services, as well as supporting the welfare services for single mothers. Although the conservative part of me has concerns about "negligent" parents of both sexes who misuse welfare support and do not properly meet their children's health and educational needs.
Plus the radical feminists can be a rather unforgiving crowd towards an old blighter like me, I suspect that they make certain assumptions, not always complimentary... given a choice of "spending time in their company" or charging a machine gun position..well I think I'd rather take on the machine gun position, but most of all, prefer to escape to the sanctuary of the golf club.
So I declare myself to not be, in my assessment, a feminist.
