gunboat related - grabbing Munich in 1901
I find that a lot of players that start as France would actually try to get Burgundy into Munich in gunboats in Autumn 01. What is the point of that? Germany will have to build armies to get France out again and thus put England in a massively advantaged position.

Thoughts?

Colours of the Great Powers on WebDip
Why does WebDip have the colour allotment it does?
In the original rules, it says that Austria is Red, England: Dark Blue, France: Light Blue, Turkey: Yellow, Germany: Black, Russia: White, Italy: Green. Why change England and Russia?

Rule Hypocrisy
the people that made a rule against "Sexism, racism, homophobia, and other forms of bigotry" but allow cussing i think is quite hypocritical. if you allow people to cuss on this site then why is it wrong for someone to politely state their belief that homosexuality is a sin? if this forum was made for people to voice their opinions and opinions are allowed on other matters then why is it wrong to voice your opinions on sticky subjects?

also James if you are leaning toward atheism then think on this. if you are right and i am wrong then nothing happens bad to eather of us when we die. BUT if i am right and you are wrong, then it will means everything to you. so another words you take all the risk by believing in nothing. i take no risk believing in God. if you are a logical person you will understand that it is better to take no risk then to take all the risk with no possibility of profit.

also if you have ever taken anatomy (even simple anatomy) i hope you understand that evolution is a crazy idea believed by people just to make up for the fact that they dont want to believe there is a God.

Pascal's Wager is balderdash. Why would an omnipotent god be fooled by such a trivial ruse?
glo2018 (1697 D)
10 Feb 17 UTC
also if you are an atheist then you can not say what is right or what is wrong. because without a higher being then who determines what is right or wrong? 50% of the people?
glo2018 (1697 D)

abgemacht: i know God wouldn't be fooled by someone just believing in him for their own selfish reasons. but i am making a logical argument that is true weather or not God would be fooled by it or not. what i said was still true.

I don't see how Pascal's wager could ever work. You're basically saying: Just believe in god or you'll go to hell. But, how do I "just believe in god"? It's not like really a choice. I suppose I could go to church and I hope I get some sort of self-induced religious Stockholm syndrome, but then if I'm wrong I've wasted years of my life, so it's not like there's "no risk" to believing in god.

Completely isolated from the argument about whether or not god exists, Pascal's wager really just makes no sense.
glo2018 (1697 D)

i know it makes little sense but you have to admit it is still true.

To be fair, though, the Greeks did kill a lot of people because they didn't want peasants to know about triangles.

"i know it makes little sense but you have to admit it is still true."

I most certainly do not.

Let's say I've accepted your wager. I want to believe in god just in case. How?
glo2018 (1697 D)
10 Feb 17 UTC
at least in the fact that if an atheist is wrong then he lost a lot while if a christian is right he has lost very little (especially wehn compared to what the atheist would lose if he is wrong)

So, basically, you've proposed to me a wager that I can't possibly accept.
glo2018 (1697 D)

the only reason that wouldn't help would be if you didn't want to believe in him meaning that you didn't truly accept my wager.

you have to want to believe

"the Nebuchadnezzar thing actually did come true (http://www.100prophecies.org/page8.htm)"

"For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring upon Tyrus Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, a king of kings, from the north, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and companies, and much people. He shall slay with the sword thy daughters in the field: and he shall make a fort against thee, and cast a mount against thee, and lift up the buckler against thee. And he shall set engines of war against thy walls, and with his axes he shall break down thy towers. By reason of the abundance of his horses their dust shall cover thee: thy walls shall shake at the noise of the horsemen, and of the wheels, and of the chariots, when he shall enter into thy gates, as men enter into a city wherein is made a breach. With the hoofs of his horses shall he tread down all thy streets: he shall slay thy people by the sword, and thy strong garrisons shall go down to the ground. And they shall make a spoil of thy riches, and make a prey of thy merchandise: and they shall break down thy walls, and destroy thy pleasant houses: and they shall lay thy stones and thy timber and thy dust in the midst of the water. And I will cause the noise of thy songs to cease; and the sound of thy harps shall be no more heard. And I will make thee like the top of a rock: thou shalt be a place to spread nets upon; thou shalt be built no more: for I the LORD have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.
—Ezekiel 26:7-14"

Here God explicitly states that Nebuchadnezzar would completely sack and destroy the city of Tyre and that Tyre's land would never be built upon again. However, this never occurred. After a 13-year siege, Tyre compromised with Nebuchadnezzar and accepted his authority without being destroyed. Despite being conquered and razed by Alexander the Great 240 years later, TYRE STILL EXISTS.

"and as for Constantine gaining power. did he gain power because he was a Christian? no he did not."

Constantine did have family relations that led to his upbringing before his soldiers put him in power: but he consolidated power through religion. sorry for the semantics on my part.

"and the accusation that the bible was written during Constantine time is foolish propagated by press etc. "

sorry, you misread, i said

"surprisingly there are many historians who believe the bible was written during this time period."
this was not saying it DID happen, although the exact compilations of all the books are not precisely known. my point was that Constantine had such an influence on the religion, that many historians find texts directly talking back to him. This is because he spread christianity immensely.

"also we where talking about the deciples. if they did want to gain power due to christinatity then they died becuase of that "great" power they gained by lieing. (which of course they didnt gain power and they didn't lie)."

I AM QUOTING MYSELF:

"i never said the DISCIPLES gained power. the disciples were fooled, lying, or non existent

http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2016/03/160306-bible-apostle-jesus-christian-religion-ngbooktalk/ "

"also you saying that Solomon could step outside and determine wind patterns is crazy. could you step outside and be able to tell the wind goes to the ends of the earth and dose specific cycles? i don't think so."

I NEVER SAID THAT!!!

I said

"actually those are regional wind fluctuations, easily determined by standing outside. the ENTIRE EARTH: the winds turn right in the northern hemisphere, and left in the southern hemisphere. so... Solomon got that one wrong. Even if he did get it right, it's hardly proof of God: once again."

if you step outside and measure where the wind is coming from every day, you will see "REGIONAL WIND FLUCTUATIONS"

THAT IS WHAT I SAID.

YOU said: "Solomon described a "cycle" of air currents two thousand years before scientists "discovered" them. "The wind goes toward the south, and turns about unto the north; it whirls about continually, and the wind returns again according to his circuits" (Ecclesiastes 1:6)."

BUT THIS IS NOT TRUE

"the ENTIRE EARTH: the winds turn right in the northern hemisphere, and left in the southern hemisphere."

THIS IS WHAT IS TRUE. READ What i am saying more carefully.

"also your statement about people knowing the earth was circular then quote a piece of literature of antiquity that bieleved that the earth was circular BEFORE or DURING 800BC"

The bible quote you mentioned said CIRCULAR

Daniel 4:10-11. In Daniel, the king “saw a tree of great height at the centre of the earth...reaching with its top to the sky and visible to the earth's farthest bounds.”

interesting, because that's impossible on a sphere. "center" can only be viewed on a CIRCLE. PS: Sphere =/= Circle.

1 Chronicles 16:30: “He has fixed the earth firm, immovable.”
Psalm 93:1: “Thou hast fixed the earth immovable and firm ...”
Psalm 96:10: “He has fixed the earth firm, immovable ...”
Psalm 104:5: “Thou didst fix the earth on its foundation so that it never can be shaken.”
Isaiah 45:18: “...who made the earth and fashioned it, and himself fixed it fast...”

they also didn't realize the earth went through space!!!

But to your question: then quote a piece of literature of antiquity that bieleved that the earth was circular BEFORE or DURING 800BC

the bible. the bible said it was circular. IT NEVER NEVER NEVER said it was round though, and many flat earth theories TODAY say the earth is circular.

Sphere =/= Circle

So i should be Muslim? Oh, or I should be Hindu? Buddhist? Jewish? AHHH THE CHOICES

or maybe there is a purpose to life that we have to search for, rather than just blindly praying. whatever. If there is a god and he created a world then gives us no proof of his existence, and then demands we believe in him or go to hell:

i'd rather be in hell. i'm not a very good kiss ass

Switzerland: No Man's Land.
Let's assume that Switzerland is no longer impassable. What effects would that have on the game, the strategy, and the tactics? Should Switzerland stay a no man's land, or might it be more interesting to make it a playable space? Perhaps it could be a neutral supply center, or just a neutral territory. What do you guys think?

Turkey Opening Strategies: Moving to Syria?
Turkey opens normally, except the fleet in Ankara moves to Constantinople, and the army in Smyrna holds. The army in Smyrna then moves to Syria. Turkey can build a fleet in Ankara or Smyrna, depending on whether he is going after Russia or Italy. This is not my idea. I was just curious to know what you guys think about it. Is a Turkish move to Syria just plain silly, or might it have some serious strategic effects?

French - Italian alliance
How would this work? Usually there's a non-aggression pact, but if France were willing to sacrifice Marseilles in return for support in Tyrolia, is this a workable relationship? Stabs are VERY difficult as they cross the stalemate line, but has this been effectively done before?

Zimbabwe-ans suck big time.

I was actually going to use this new thread to maybe comment about what I think about women, or maybe what I think about Republicans, or maybe something else like that. But then I thought those things might get me in trouble. So I decided to express my opinion about Zimbabwe-ans instead.
