Thanks. I try. (My activity is in climate change work).
Actually, given how much hate and bigotry have festered in the internet and how controversies like Gamergate have shown what happens if there's never any pushback in circles like this, I have decided to speak up as forcefully as possible in any venue. It isn't that people disagree with me, its that when these attitudes are tolerated and reinforced without any interruption, they spread and if shared by millions, they'll give rise to a thousands who rape their female friends on college campuses and dozens who will walk into a church or a mosque and start shooting to start a "race war" (as if one weren't already well underway).
Trump's comment about "locker room talk" in particularly made me resolve that whenever and whereever I hear such things, I'm responding and not in a namby pampy way. I intend to put the bullies squarely in the corner at every turn. I've never heard such talk in my locker room, but if I do, I'm not staying stilent, but I'm going to be shouting at the top of my lungs right in their faces so that everyone listening understands that there's a lot of us who do not agree and do not appreciate it. I'm never going to let anyone assume I accept or tolerate such things, because I don't. Maybe it will give others courage to speak up too. God knows I didn't have that when I was younger, but as one of the most privileged humans every to walk the face of the earth, I'm going to use that bullhorn as best I can.
