Getting a second undergrad degree in a mostly unrelated subject
I think I may end up doing this 2-4 years from now, and I just wonder how common it is.

Also, a potentially stupid related question - how possible is it to get into a grad school in a subject you did not study in undergrad? Can you just take courses a la carte to meet the pre-reqs and/or beg them to let you give it a shot? All my research on grad school doesn't turn up much on what kind of students are accepted into the programs.

I've been looking around the site and I'd like to join a game. When I click on the "Games" link I do see a bunch of games. Some are in progress already. Some have "join for x". I'd really appreciate detailed instructions, step by step, click by click. Details are important to me.

Tyran - when I play with mature players how don't place their self-worth on the praise and artificially "graceful" panderings of strangers, that diplomacy works just fine. Hence the once great "Call Me a Dirty So-n-So..." series.

But playing with average shmoes, people almost seek to be offended by silly words from strangers. It's disappointing....and yet...I must confess the failing therefore becomes mine, because I can't restrain myself from calling a dumbass move a dumbass move...and because most people are unwilling to admit their own failings, they turn against anyone who speaks truth...sigh...

It's difficult to always be so right, and so honest...

Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
20 Feb 15 UTC
I was given very clear and strict confines for the adjunct professor position and I'm afraid I cannot currently extend one to krellin. However the study group game can always use its own dedicated TA. if he is both willing and constructive I see no problem with that.
dyager_nh (619 D)
20 Feb 15 UTC
I suppose your strict instructions did not involve insults and bullying even if its offset by the sheer entertainment value? Shame...sincenI dropped from TA'ing I was hoping Krellin would keep me entertained.
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
20 Feb 15 UTC
@Minty, I think that'd be fine. You seem to know what you're getting into but all your wins are Anc Med, hopefully you and your TA can turn that around ;)

Krellin, if you're playing good players, they usually don't make moves that just being called a dumb-ass :-)

I'll TA any power that's not Italy. Somebody else won last time I was Italy, and that doesn't happen too often.

I want VI or THM as professors!

krellin (80 DX)

Not sure that makes me qualified....I consider myself to be good at strategy games. My record on WebDip....seems to be declining with the passing years....most likely becuase I've grown bored with the feigned dignity and bullshit of pretend-sweet talk in press.

Which is why I need to be a player in SoW....so my Master can retrain my tongue to be plated-silver....<sigh...>

I do have a glorious neckbeard that betrays my age. X3n0n is mostly correct on the dates.

krellin I have no problem with you joining Study Group if you wish. My statement about you being an assistant prof was a bit tongue in cheek; it doesn't matter who was suggested I'd say the same thing (and I said it about VI and THM to peter too)

Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))

I'm in my mid-thirties and still can't grow a beard. It doesn't even grow in as dignified patches. I get a sloppy-looking stache and chin garbage with loose hairs on the sides.

Now, I could make myself look homeless pretty easily.

Let me know if I messed up any preferences in a non-trivial manner. Since the SOW is to start March 2nd, I'll send instructions to a student on how to create the game on the 23rd, everyone is to join by the 28th, and then it shall be paused and countries swapped by the mods, and then we can unpause and start on the 2nd of March. Hopefully there will be a little bit of wiggle room in there.

What is the Study Group game?
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
22 Feb 15 UTC
Traditionally the Study Group game is a game consisting of players who are a bit more experience or independent than the Students, and play their own game concurrently. There is not one-on-one TA'ing, but the Professor or TA's may drop by to commentate / grade at their discretion, as well as having a dedicated TA for the over-all game rather than a specific power. Often players who are former students or too experienced to be students of the SOW will play in this game.

This SOW it's a bit more stretched as there is both someone who was an 8th TA and someone who was an 8th student, but it's not like these descriptions/teirs are cut and dry, I don't look at that game and expect to know the outcome from the names. For clarity and interesting-ness's sake, the current 5 sign-ups range from a GR of 250 to 450. You don't currently have a GR since you just came out of hiatus, but based on your former GR from around AUG2014 you'd probably be towards the top or middle of that balance. If you're willing I think you'll make a fine addition.

Can we get some more TAs for the study group game? It's good to have a variety of perspectives..
