Look at gameID=111572 , specifically at France's fleet in Piedmont... why is Piedmont not blue, given that it is not an SC?

Nice things thread
It's a gorgeous late-winter Friday in Maine. There's not a cloud in the blue, blue sky, and it may get all the way up to the high 40s today. I'm in an uncharacteristically good mood, so I decided to start this thread inviting you webdippers to be happy about something.

Inflation
Why do government "inflation" figures always discount FOOD and ENERGY prices....which are the *bulk* of people's regular spending...?

Anyone know why this formula is used?

Fair enough. I was about to congratulate you on your mastery of circular logic. "The government lies! How do I know? Look at their statistics. They're all wrong. How do I know they're wrong? Because the government lies!"

jimgov - is angry becuase he got beat down badly on another thread yesterday because Abge linked-to *scientific* study that refuted the government epa propoganda that he linked to. His religious belief was rattled a little bit and he's still stinging from the blow...

What he fails to realize here is that you cna *only* get inflation numbers and such from the government, or through other's interpretation of government data, so it is (sadly) the only source. Is it true data? Most likely not....usually every government number released is amazingly, and quietly, revised...unemployment number always get revised up (worse) for example, to little or no fanfare.

hecks (164 D)
15 Mar 13 UTC
Don't you listen to Marketplace? They announce the revisions every month.
jimgov (219 D(B))

You see...the real reason that I posted here is so that krellin's head would explode. Mission accomplished.
krellin (80 DX)
15 Mar 13 UTC
I am aware of monthly revisions...I mentioned them, did I not.

NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, etc...those who are the government mouthpeices who announce, for example, unemployment numbers to the ignorant masses...do *they* ever give the revised numbers?
jimgov (219 D(B))

jimgov - pointing out your flawed ability to construct arguments in *hardly* my head exploding. I *have* successfully...AGAIN...made the reading public here aware of your failings, both in this thread and another.

You can go cry to your mommy now.

@krellin - It's hilarious how you thrash about and think that you win arguments. Arguments that only exist in your own head. You and Donald Trump would be great together.

I have quoted my President's words, pure and simple, and provided a meaning for those words. I appreciate jimgov's desire to keep this thread on the top so that people will see the links and read the President's words about his desire for this economy. Thanks jim.

I'm going to guess, and mind you, this is only a guess, that you think the president was born in Kenya.

jimgov - wow...panties in a bunch, much? My my...you *are* a little testy today, aren't you? Still angry that you are too stupid to comprehend the scientific paper that Abge posteed yesterday, which you confessed you were too dumb to understand? Still angry that your precious religious belief in the epa was shattered a little bit, and now you don't knwo what to believe? Still mad that I quote the President and proved my assertions about what his intentions are?

Damn, jimgov...you ARE having a bad day, aren't you....those damned *FACTS* just keep spoiling your beliefs. I know that *must* be terribly difficult for you, who prefers to live by opinion, rather that facts and reality. Sad little jim....you'll get over it.

Krellin -
Here's the full BLI stats. http://www.bls.gov/news.release/cpi.nr0.htm

The Consumer Price Index (the one that excludes fuel and food) was up 2.0% from February 2012 to February 2013. The Energy Index (the one that only includes energy prices) was up 2.3% over that same period. The Food Index was up 1.6%, less than the CPI. So yeah... the major difference and distortion of the figures that you see doesn't seem to pan out in the numbers the way I see them, unless I'm missing something.

Jimbo - I believe the evidence points to Obama being born in the US, and frankly it does not matter where he was born, as he is the duly elected President. If *YOU* choose to waste your time considering such conspiracies, then I pity you... you are more of a jackass than I originally imagined.

I am sticking to facts...which is why I posted *quotes* from Obama, which is why yesterday we beat you down with a scientific research paper.

But...it's becoming far to easy to humiliate you, jim. Perhaps you should go hang out with blankflag....he likes to make things up, too. He's just your kind of fool.
hecks (164 D)
15 Mar 13 UTC
And that, JimGov, is how you craft a logical argument. Now he can either counter the argument, reject the stats, or expand the argument. But he can't ignore it as he can with your inane name-calling.
jimgov (219 D(B))
15 Mar 13 UTC
"I believe the evidence points to Obama being born in the US"

Wow. If that is not a ringing endorsement of the truth I don't know what is. Just come out and say it. The president was born in Hawaii or the president was born in Kenya. It's a simple statement. And this will prove, once and for all, that you are not a complete and total conspiracy lunatic.
krellin (80 DX)
15 Mar 13 UTC
@jimgov - I was unaware of such a site....the fact the YOU have a link to it tells us where YOU spend YOUR time. You may indulge in such nonsense by yourself, fool. You're getting rather pathetic now.

Hecks - honestly, I think the economy is stable, but depressed from where it should be and I think too many people have permanently left the work force. I think wages are stagnant at best, barely keeping up with inflation of the things people actuallypurchase every day. We could be much worse...we could be much, much better.

We are not Jimmy Carter bad....but neither are we experiencing the economic boom of a Reagan or a Bill Clinton administration...so because we are not growing as we are capable of growing, I believe we are behind where we should be. Obama has not been as bad as many predicted he would be, but in large part that is due to gridlock - and gridlock tends to be the best friend of growth, because if there are no radical legislative changes possible, businesses can plan better.
hecks (164 D)
15 Mar 13 UTC
Actually, real wages dropped precipitously during Reagan's eight years. The biggest drop in the second half of the 20th century.
hecks (164 D)
15 Mar 13 UTC
Aw, shit. Now I have to go find the stats and back it up, don't I.
krellin (80 DX)
15 Mar 13 UTC
@jimgov - *The evidence* supports Obama being born in the US. I was not there when he was born, so I can not make a statement of certainty. HE HIMSELF has not made a public statement of certainty that I am aware of, so I can only comment on EVIDENCE.

Unlike you, who drifts through life "believing things" that you have no evidence to believe, I try to gather facts before forming opinions.

And frankly, I don't give a flying fuck where Obama was born, so I don't bother wasting my time dwelling on the topic AS YOU appear to do...
2ndWhiteLine (2601 D(B))
15 Mar 13 UTC
Yes or no question, krellin.
krellin (80 DX)
15 Mar 13 UTC
Hecks....yes, I agree that real wages continued to drop under Reagan....but compared to the massive free fall of the Carter administration, Reagan was a god-send.

It is *much* the same argument that Obama has made...in that he inherited *such* a mess that we have not seen massive improvement under his administration because the hole was so deep.

Carter dug a *much* larger hole that Bush did, and therefore Reagan had much farther to come back.

So...if you buy Obama's argument that he has done the best he could comign from a horrible situation, then you *also* have to give Reagan credit for an incredible turnaround!
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

Obama, Osama, very similar, maybe he is an A-rab. Everyone knows they are anti-capitalist people trying to destroy the American dream by selling them cheap oil. It's obvious isn't it, why don't you idiots just agree that I am a supreme immortal being and agree with me that we need a Mormon President who is obviously white but even more important than that he typifies REAL Americans i.e. loves guns, hates the Chinese and the French, what more could a country need.
jimgov (219 D(B))
15 Mar 13 UTC
I'm just waiting for one little response. I won't post on this thread again once I get that answer. But the public must know.
hecks (164 D)
15 Mar 13 UTC
Heh. No, I don't buy Obama's argument that he's done the best he could with the situation. I'll give him about two years on that excuse. Three, if I'm being generous.

I agree with much of his agenda, but if he were serious about getting shit done, he wouldn't play brinksmanship with the House (for which I equally blame them, for the record) and keep creating these artificial deadline crises, which are what I believe are really holding the economy back. Who wants to expand their business when every two months you have to face some artificial "Fiscal Cliff" or "Debt Ceiling" or "Sequester". If any of them were serious, they'd start talking about these things in advance, not a week before the deadline.

Right now both parties are still more interested in scoring political points than solving problems. And sometimes the most presidential thing a president can do with the bully pulpit is do step down from it for a minute, sit down at the table like a human being, listen, and make a serious concession. Nothing fosters cooperation like humility.
jimgov (219 D(B))
15 Mar 13 UTC
@hecks - We are the problem. We keep voting in politicians, from both parties, that are more and more extreme. They didn't get into the house and the senate and then all of the sudden say "hey, I'm going to be an extreme nut-job now." Democrats vote in liberals to protect entitlements and Republicans vote in conservatives to cut spending no matter what. If we really wanted compromise, we would vote in moderates that could actually sit down with the other side and talk. Really talk.
hecks (164 D)
15 Mar 13 UTC
After that comment, I will reiterate, though, that the economy is not the president's domain alone. Every fault I find when I look to Obama I find in equal measure in the House.
hecks (164 D)
15 Mar 13 UTC
@ JimGov
I can agree with that last sentiment. I'm a true blue Liberal registered Democrat who has never voted for a Democrat for Senate and never voted for a Republican for the House.

As a Mainer, I have always wholeheartedly endorsed Republicans Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. Wonderful, moderate, deal-brokering, conscience-guided Republicans. Last year when Olympia retired, I voted for my first non-Republican Senate candidate, Independent Angus King. He won. I love a moderate.

Liberal of the day awards
To help Sbyvl36 on his noble quest of muting liberals, we will utilize this thread in determining who is the most liberal person of the day, and why he is liberal. Post possible nominations below and reasons as to why they are the liberal of the day. Together we should be able to make a decision and make Sbyvl36s life easier.

Do Americans save money?
It may just be stupid television, but it seems like most Americans either spend their money as soon as they get it or save it to buy something more expensive as soon as they've got enough. Is this true for most Americans or is that just television? I don't know about other countries but here in the Netherlands most people (adults at least) have quite some money stashed on a bank account for worse days...
