A Friendly Message From the Mods
This isn't directed at anyone in particular, just some general trends we've been noticing:
1) Please make sure the email in your profile is up-to-date and you check it regularly.
2) Please remember that there is to be *no* communication in gunboat games, no matter how innocuous.
Thanks

Chance calculations, little help?
Example: I throw a 6-sided die 6 times. How many chance do I have to throw at least one 6 in 1 throw? Any calculation I can think of says 100%, but I'm sure as hell there's a chance to not throw one 6... I do understand the average should be one time per six throws though.

banning iranian and syrian media stations, good call?
western nations are banning iranian and syrian media, do you guys think it will help prevent unfiltered propaganda from brainwashing our youth? particularly unapproved war images from our covert and fingers crossed soon to be more overt operations.

Which Winnie the Pooh Character are you most like?
I'm firmly of the belief that they have most personalities covered pretty well. I, for example, am firmly a Rabbit. What about YOU!?? Don't mix and match, and don't pick that little dicknob Christopher Robin unless you are a man and enjoy penises that don't belong to you.

I can definitely believe that.. those games have to be good.

Maybe we should spend more time bringing in new gunboaters and press players too... we only have one SoW game per year and they get filled by players that want to know *more* instead of players that want to learn the basics and how things actually work versus the board game. That would expand our borders some.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

with regard to comments about player quality I think you play the board that is in front of you and guess what, you don't always win. I'm hopeless at full press and pp, I've worked that out because I do a lot worse in them games than I do in gunboat. It's actually nobody's fault but my own. In general I tend to do better against less experienced players than more experienced, is that such a surprise ?? Claiming that you're not winning because the competition is not good enough is the sign of a sore loser, losing is an opportunity to learn, both tactics and humility. I never hear the real quality players moan about getting beat ..... nuff said :-)
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
22 Feb 13 UTC
Getting beat? Who complained about getting beat? I complained that people are too dumb to realize a 13 center power with 6 laying right in front of him is a solo threat.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
22 Feb 13 UTC
Yep that's a fair point, I think I know where that is coming from .... I guess you're not the 13 centre power in this instance :-)
I'll be the first to admit the 13 center power has gotten lucky a few of his mistakes haven't completely screwed him over. But let's not talk about about it right now.

I have to point out that just because a person doesn't do what someone else wants or expects them to in a game doesn't actually mean that they're dumb or don't know what they're doing. Two different people can look at the same set of data on a map and draw different conclusions. It's why we actually make the horses run at the track, and it's what makes this game fun.

Good guess, Nigee.. you can guess I'm also not the one I'm complaining about o_O

Jon, I was screaming solo at my computer screen three years before he made the attempt. And yes, I'll explain after.
Quick, taking bets if the final gb game will be over this turn or not. (A.K.A bumping the thread back to page 1)

An update will appear very soon ...... well done SoldierBoy
My first solo victory on the site, made possible despite being off balance for most of the end game by the inability of the remaining players to successfully rally against me.
Needless to I'm not overly proud of my performance, but I thought it was still a decent game and a win is a win.

@bo " I was screaming solo at my computer screen three years before he made the attempt."
I'd been whispering it under my breath for about that long, also had this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ESdn0MuJWQ stuck in my head whenever I looked at the board.
Also feel like it's worth noting this was my 3 game as England in this tourney.

It looks like France was happy to throw the solo to you in 1908 with his support to Spain.
y2kjbk (4846 D(G))

After I lost Spain I thought that if I retreated a bit on the English border, Germany would realize that he needed to stop England and not blindly seek revenge on me for taking Munich. Didn't work as planned.

You can't win the prize if your name is misspelled.

In the third game that England soloed, of course I was happy as France to throw him the game. Anytime one player is simultaneously jumped by his three neighbors (especially when that person misses a crucial bounce in fall '01 and loses Marseilles), all bets are off as far as them playing correctly or logically.
LakersFan (899 D)
26 Feb 13 UTC
In other words, if you don't want to throw the game to England, don't go after the primary power who can challenge England for naval supremacy early on.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

Makes sense to me LakersFan ...... poor tactics, but sometimes things happen :-)

Cardinal Keith O'Brien sorry for sexual misconduct
That's nice .... if there were real justice in this world he would get the opportunity to tell a judge in a court of law how sorry he was, I wonder how sorry he was before he was 'outed' as a paedophile.

i thought the conflict with woodward was because he pointed out that the sequestration came from the presidents office
but i just saw stewart discuss the matter it went something like this
woodward accused them of moving the goalposts. boring! lets move on.

World Diplo IX - not year 1
What year is the World Diplomacy IX set Definitely not year 2000, by then America was united. No countries have ever existed in Antarctica, and the last empire to rule Germany, Italy and France was Napoleon. Only India can claim some legitimacy on that map.

Recently, many South American countries closed their ports for boats from Falklands to support Argentinian claim to the islands. Since Falklands' economy heavily relies on fishing, not being able to dock, resupply and stuff hits them pretty hard.
