Interesting read
I'd like to hear what the right wing thinkers (and not trolls) think of this article, as well as the liberals here.

Mostly a criticism of market liberalism: https://jacobinmag.com/2017/05/handmaids-tale-margaret-atwood-trump-abortion-theocracy

Tax dodging and capital flight
Ok, this youtube video discusses it. In brief, company extracts mineral wealth, sells for a low price to parent company based in a tax haven, declares no/very little profit. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ocm42ytXto )

Probably not in the Bible but...
Before Jesus took over John's ministry what did people think of the fact that a man in his upper 20s wasn't married and had no children? Wouldn't that have been exceedingly rare at the time?

A "review" held "behind closed doors" by a group all opposed to PPSC.. No independent person asking for submissions. I went to check the email informing me of the review, but there was never any such email sent, so then I looked for the "we are having a review" forum thread...and there was never any such thread created.
If there is no difference between surviving and being defeated then why have those two distinctions ? Why not simply have a winner when someone wins and class the others as defeated ?
If there is a difference between surviving and being defeated when there is a winner, and the fact that the distinction is made is evidence that there is a difference, then why are both these groups treated exactly the same by the scoring systems used, DSS and SoS ?
I have the example of the player who NMR's in 01 & is defeated by 03 ( giving another player a huge advantage that sets them on their way to a WIN ) and let's say, two other players who do their best, but narrowly miss forcing a draw, ending up with ten sc's and six sc's....and your scoring systems treat those two players the same as the blighter who NMR'd...... You don't see any problems with that ?

I got into controversy for actions that were regarded as "throwing a game" in a game with Yoyoyozo and Tom "Bombarding". Now there were a few reasons why I chose to act in the way I did, but I think I can legitimately say that the scoring system.. WTA.. offered me NO incentive to continue trying once Tom double-crossed and betrayed myself and Italy.

If PPSC is so brilliant you've got to wonder why literally no other site, FTF tournament, Independent GameMaster or Rulebook has ever used anything close to resembling it.

We get it - it's not coming back. Can we deal with the fact that we replaced it with something worse?
CAPT Brad (40 DX)

@ Zybodia. if you don't like the system then don't play in games that use it. whine, whine, whine. you can always play the PC game and enjoy playing with yourself

ATC ..why bother ? As you say, serious questions about the flaws of only having WTA scoring systems have (repeatedly) never been addressed properly. I get it, I understand, it's a WTA dictatorship here at WebDiplomacy. So I don't want to hear any whining about me "throwing future games"... If the scoring systems treat the players who fight all the way, narrowly miss forcing a draw exactly the same as players who NMR in 01 & 02 & get defeated by 03, then why bother fighting all the way ? If there's NO incentive, then it's quite reasonable to make an assessment Mid game.. Do I have a chance of winning & is there another player who will probably win ? If the answers are no & yes, then without any incentive to fight all the way because of this WTA monopoly, I may well choose to simply give up and let the other player win
MajorMitchell (1874 D)
07 May 17 UTC
Yes ATC, I suspect that you were being sarcastic/ironic, but read literally, you've stated exactly what several players regard as the reality. Questions about only having WTA have repeatedly not been addressed properly. I also understand that there is absolutely no intention of introducing any nonWTA scoring system. But let's please stop this farcical and risible "window dressing" that pushes the propaganda "we dealt honourably with the protestors" who took the promise for a review and consultation in good faith. Simple fact is, we were hoodwinked & deceived, imho.
Zybodia (355 D)

Brad, I honestly can't tell if you're talking about PPSC or SoS.

Yeah, "Survivors Win" is confusing, I'd assume that means all surviving players get an equal share.

As I mentioned in the thread last year, I think "Points For Survival" (PFS) would be a much less confusing name than "Survivors-Win Scoring".
MajorMitchell (1874 D)

Fair suggestion Tanica, but PPSC is probably "never coming back to WebDiplomacy"
What I have suggested, and repeat as an idea is... We keep the two "winner takes all" DSS and SoS scoring systems. We add a "non winner takes all" form of SoS scoring.... As an option, not the default.

Yoyoyozo: "I find it funny that the same people that are upset at the name 'Survivors-Win' are the same people that want to bring it back because they want to win points for surviving.

Really, now? I've only played one game since the changes and won gameID=187811. Because of WTA, it drove my opponents crazy that someone would dare refuse to draw in the end-game. Although I played well, I still think it's unfair that I took the whole pot.

ghug: "We acknowledged that a few of you disagreed with us, claiming that its removal would hurt the site, and agreed to review site data to question that claim."

And yet you all didn't review site data to see whether the changes discouraged players from joining games in progress. Nor did you check to see whether the performance of minor Great Powers suffered. I don't really care whether you all promised to collect data or not, but relevant data was not collected and never reviewed.
Yoyoyozo (65 D)

Maybe it's because you played a 10 minute live game with multiple NMRs into 1922. Ouch. I'd feel bad for all of Those players. If you actually didn't want the whole pot, you could have drawn the game, or at the very least canceled it.

Also you played the wrong scoring system if you think people with different sizes deserve different rewards. Had it been SoS, you could have drawn and still kept ~70% of the pot

A_Tin_Can: "I'm not sure why I respond to you every time you bring this up."

How about responding to me instead for once? Pretty pretty please? I know you're no longer in a decision-making capacity and I know that you've single-handedly introduced awesome new features to the site, but I don't believe that you have ever really addressed my arguments regarding PPSC. And I did bring up a new argument recently that I hadn't before articulated (threadID=1476181).
JECE (1248 D)

Yoyoyozo: SoS as implemented on webDip is expressley against the rulebook. Draws should be shared equally.

As for the game I brought up, there were no NMR's leading up to 1922. France just decided to concede the game. The only NMR's all game were from an absent Turkey, which Italy, A-H and I fought tooth and nail over. Nice try.

Yoyoyozo (65 D)

That's what I was referring to. By "into 1922" I meant to emphasize the fact that you played a 10 minute live game into 1922.

By "fought tooth and and nail over" do you mean that they fought each other tooth and nail?Lmao because as Russia with 3 builds in 1901, you had Turkey secured from the get go.

Yoyoyozo: Enough! You impugn my honor! Prepare for a duel. En garde!

If you must know, playing a live game into 1922 was their choice. I offered several times to pause and have gentlemen like you convert the game to 24/48 hours or what not per phase.

As for your last slight, notice that both Italy and A-H (and England too) were at war with me for the four years it took me to capture the Turkish SC's. They did not fight each other until Fall 1904, the same year I seized control of Anatolia. My 1901 builds were a diplomatic and tactical feat, but it wasn't my builds which secured Turkey for me; it was capturing specifically both Rum and Bul in 1901 with Russian armies that kept Austro-Hungarian armies at bay long enough for me to slip just one of those three builds into Arm and gain a stable foothold in Turkey (stable despite facing a Lepanto that same Fall 1902).

I am retiring from Trolling
I will henceforth focus my efforts on promoting games, offering opinions on actual issues and an occasional contribution that may be amusing. My goal was never to see the forum overrun with nonsense. Sadly its becoming unreadable and the threads are so abundant that trolling is now all thats happening. Sorry webdip for ushering in this era.

Completely unrelated thought
You can easily walk out the door and abandon your life, start over and become a new person. But can you do the same to your mindset? Can you drop all previous prejudices/perspectives/opinions, (but not facts) and build a new world view? A new model for interacting with reality?

About those earth rays..
Years ago, I started a discussion (and an infrequently used meme) about how I used to have severe headaches as a small child until a small metal device that my parents can't describe very well was buried in the frontyard and my headaches disappeared overnight. My parents cited mythical earth rays as the cause of the problem. The brilliant minds of webdip saw a placebo effect as the only possible answer. I found another possible explanation and would like your thoughts.
