I didn't accuse him of derailing the thread, I congratulated him for helping me. The thread had very quickly gotten to the point where nobody was saying anything new, and I thought discussing the consistent flaws in the way Prado expresses himself would be more productive.

CAPT Brad: You seem to think that the Electoral College somehow protects an arbitrary absolute majority of the states of the Union. In fact, you can claim an Electoral College victory with just 11 states of the Union.

The forum was having the same discussion it's had over and over again all week, Prado said something I had a problem with, and I called him out on it. I may have been a little smug in response to his smugness, something you've decided to double down on in your response to mine, but that doesn't invalidate anything I said, and this discussion wasn't so sacred that derailing it has harmed anyone.

My statement was in response to someone saying that we should maintain the Electoral College because of trusting in the judgement of the Founding Fathers, and my response was essentially that factors could change in political thought over time. I wasn't lording my intellect over anyone, I was pointing to a point in an argument I personally felt wasn't very strong. The character attack was far less than warranted.

Just FYI, the petition has already been signed by more than four million people. Power to the people!

@JECE, my advice to you as someone who seems to agree with me quite a bit politically is to give it up and focus your time and good intentions on something that could actually work. Four million signatures isn't going to do a whole lot when 15 times that many just voted for Trump. He's gonna be our president, and that's probably going to really really suck, but we should be focusing on making it suck less for the people it hurts the most and trying to get the Democratic party to a place where it can actually win the next time it gets the chance and put a stop to all of this.
