CIV 5 1v1v1 Ladder Tournament
Webdip players interested?
Lets get a list of people who would be interested in playing civ 5 (3 person free for alls) We can setup brackets and ideally if we can get 12 people from webdip actually have a mini tournament.

You can ban England if you're concerned about England messing up the balance.

I think four players per game probably makes the most sense if we can get enough. Puts a nice even number in the finals as well.

I like meme's civ picker idea as a compromise between full randomness and open selection, and pangea/king make sense to me.

As far as logistics, I think having players pick time(s) that work for them and just saving and resuming if need be works best. Do we want to consider hybrid turns to avoid lag disadvantages?
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))

No. Hybrid/Sequential are horrific.

I would play.
I'm in. Are we picking nations or random leaders?

Heres my suggestions.

1. We go king difficulty.

Map: Pangaea
Speed: Quick
Barbs: Normal
Game size 4 players

We use memes system and Ill randomize brackets and civs for us .

Also round 2 we switch to continents.

Round 3 we do Islands.

I feel playing only Pangaea a whole tourney would be dull.

Also Venice will be banned.

Games will begin April 10th and continue all week. Players are asked to decide hosts, exchange steam names and plan out a time to start the week of April 10-17.
Durga (3609 D)

Islands?? Don't listen to HR he's mental. Stick to pangaea and continents.

mmmk lol. I personally like the idea that the person with the highest score from round 1 makes the calls but im crazy.

losers brackets. ;) Id like it to be a big clusterfuck. jk.

But I do want a consolation ladder otherwise its just 1 game and yer out
brainbomb (290 D)

round 2 would be the winners in top tier and each of them gets another shot.

I dont see why wed only want 2 games. I suppose we can discuss if thats too much
steephie22 (182 D(S))

I oppose banning Venice. Again, with memes system, you can ban Venice yourself if you want, or not and just not pick it.

If we do different maps each round, it might make more sense to start with whatever is considered the least balanced so the finals are most balanced?

Planning-wise, I can't make guarantees and I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't have the 10th to the 17th planned out.
I also wonder if it's worth taking timezones/preferred playing times into account for the first seeding. Alternatively, a game could also simply be started as soon as 4 participators who are not yet in a game are online and ready at the same time. If everyone does this, we should all be starting relatively soon, apart from the ones who prefer to wait. Only works for the first round. Arguably it could be done partially for the second round as well (except your.competitors have to be in your pool.of 8 then).

I know there's potential problems there if people seek out weak competition for instance, not sure if that can be prevented?

@brainbomb:

"We use memes system and Ill randomize brackets and civs for us."

I agree with meme that using the Fruity Draft is a good idea and balances between picking civs/and playing random.

But your above statement is slightly confusing -- what do you mean you'll randomize "civs for us" ?
wjessop (100 DX)
29 Mar 16 UTC
@steephie: In the Fruity Draft, Venice is banned automatically anyway.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
29 Mar 16 UTC
Never mind also doing that for round 2, I was assuming three rounds.

Are the losers ranked based on first eliminated or points as well, so all the 'biggest losers' play against eachother in round 2 and all the close seconds play against eachother, etc?
brainbomb (290 D)
29 Mar 16 UTC
Were gonna use CARNAGE SCORING for this and a world cup style. each bracket plays 24 games against each other.
brainbomb (290 D)
29 Mar 16 UTC
No its really simple. the four winners advance to a final.

the four players with next highest score play in a consolation final.

Thats all.

We need 4 more players and we can randomize brackets and get down to business
I would not do continents. In a tournament style game I don't feel that's appropriate. Perhaps donut or four corners or lakes or something?
wjessop (100 DX)
29 Mar 16 UTC
Compromise is going to have to be applied.

I'd like Turn Timer, it's not going to happen, we can't have everything.

Tiny islands is silly. Continents is bearable -- but I agree it's not particularly balanced.

Pangaea is best for FFA (free for all) because it puts everyone on the same boat. That's as fair as it can be.
captainmeme (1723 DMod)
29 Mar 16 UTC
Steephie - Venice is okay for casual games but it really suffers in lategame because it's never going to have anywhere near the production of other civs. You have to make up for this with your double trade route gold, but real people are much better at plundering trade routes than AIs are and you're never going to be able to protect enough of them - also, gold purchasing is really inefficient compared to production, so if someone beats you to big ben or you don't go autocracy for the purchasing discount, you're essentially out of the game.
captainmeme (1723 DMod)
29 Mar 16 UTC
Also, if it's 4 players, 2 bans is probably better than 3.

I agree with Wjessop on Pangaea, as I've already made clear. Something like Donut could work but I believe that's a DLC map that not everyone will have.

Yes as soon as we get 4 more players brackets will be released and drafted civs fruity juicy style can begin. until then the point is moot as were not to 16 players yet.

Id like to spectate the games if they begin early also for purposes of providing unbiased commentary play by play.

Conceding defeat means you are resigning a chance to play in finals too.

Bernie Sanders kicked out of hippie commune for laziness
http://freebeacon.com/politics/bernie-sanders-asked-leave-hippie-commune/

Raises the question in my mind of what will be done (if anything) with people who refuse to work in the socialist society Bernie and his supporters wish to impose. Forced labor camps? Expulsion from the country? Revocation of their EBT card and Section 8 subsidies? Or nothing?

Just a basic question!
What does voting to 'Cancel' mean? what do you cancel when you vote for it?
And, how does Pause work? when you pause, how do you resume the game? is it paused for a specific amount of time or do you vote to un-pause later?

First Time Prom.
Help me WebDip, you're my only hope.

Seriously, though, I am a male junior, and found out today that the person on my mind has me on hers. Prom is in 2 weeks. I have not asked her, and fear that the window has shut on this opportunity. Even if I did go (all my buddies want me to go) I would have no idea what to do, what to say, or where to go.

Hello guys, I´m intending to do a Modern Diplomacy Game with 5 teams. 10 players, but without any communications inside de game. The only way to communication is talking to this real person by email, whatsapp, etc.
But to have equation, balance, one should have just another guy in his team. Not a 3 person team. This will work? ANyone want to participate?
