Whenever you do anything there exist various parameters that you must work within. I assume everyone knows what these parameters are (what can you wear, how can you act, various other things that are publicly accepted and that are not) and these benefit some people and don't benefit others. That is a known fact, but you can always work to change something that doesn't benefit you into something that does. Anyone that stands out based on such things, can't always help standing out, but they are standing out. Sadly we have to accept that we either stand out or work our hardest not to.
What do we know about Lila's situation? She has a private option, some girls are taking offensive to her being in the same dressing room as them. We don't know how the guys react or more about how she feels about the situation, all variables we need to accurately judge what is the better option. From all we know, the private option is ideal as there is less of a risk to her of being bullied (bullying sadly is a fact, something we can work to stop but something that has not yet been stopped) and less worry of legal action that she is now involved in, which takes away time that she could be studying, interacting with peers or trying to educate those around her on her situation.
From what I understand of the Article, Lila dropped out of the PE class so she wouldn't have to worry about changing, she wants to start a dialogue to inform others and is generally working to improve her own situation. Let her.
Also some clarification, the private areas I meant were the corners or more isolated areas. You may not always find them but the shy students tend to take them over, in my experience anyway, which I understand may not be universal.
