What is happening with this site???
Some 2 years ago when I joined Webdiplomacy you could play 3 games in a row during one night. Now, you cant get players for even one game. Everyone is just typing on forum. Maybe if we type about it, we can overcome this problem somehow?! Play people, play.

abge's Craft Corner
My gf and I made a small table. Nothing intense; the pieces were pre-cut, we just picked what we liked and assembled and painted it. I'm pretty sure it ended up being more expensive than just buying one, but it was a fun project. http://tinyurl.com/lm89ydg

Anyone else have a fun project they're working on they'd like to share?

An article describing how press ties into the strategy of a high-level player. (I played with this guy years ago on Bounced. With all due respect to THM, MM, Ebay, VI, etc, he's still the best opponent I've ever faced).

This is bullshit.

I had more than my fair share of disagreements with Putin. Oftentimes, he was full of crap. Occasionally (very occasionally), he would cause me to seriously question some deeply held assumptions about what I knew and understood of the world and the way things work. While I'm fairly certain that if he had his way I'd be lined up against a wall with the other counter-revolutionaries and shot, and putin is the only forumite I'd ever muted (briefly), he is/was a large part of what made this forum an interesting place. Now that he and so many of the other voices that made this forum what it was have been expunged, I'm left to wonder if there's much of anything left here for me. There are plenty of other places to go and play Diplomacy. But there aren't too many where you can have intelligent and well-educated arguments between capitalists vs. communists over tax policy, zionists vs. anti-zionists, and discussions about ancient history all going at the same time. I fear it won't be long, at this rate, before the thin-skinned whiners have destroyed everything that made this little community of ours of value.

This forum is getting to the point where, like all police states, one must question one's integrity if one hasn't fallen afoul of the authorities at least once. I must admit I'm a little tempted to unleash my inner troll so that I, too, can have a martyr's banishment I can be proud of rather than be an ashamed and self-censored member in good standing of the Legion of Decency.

Putin was an incredibly frustrating poster at times. When it came to understanding the world as it stands, he was close to peerless. When it came to proposing solutions, he was hopeless. Much like Descartes, his deconstruction of knowledge was far more interesting than his attempts to rebuild it.

"Multis are multis."

That's rather evasive. Is this why putin33 was banned?

First person on this site I muted. Totally foolish tool, filled with racism, hate and general conservative sophistry of the most useless and facile kind. Generally not worth wasting your time on. Dunno why he was banned, don't much care. Altogether a good day for the community. Maybe we can attract a few more actual adults here.

Good job.
Tolstoy (1962 D)

"Is this why putin33 was banned?"

No, it was for comments on the forum in a thread that apparently has gone down the Memory Hole - a first, to my recollection, for this site (the Memory Hole, that is, not the banning for forum comments).

Lol, it's not evasive for two reasons - firstly, Putin's case wasn't the question I was referring to, and secondly, I was on my phone, have you ever tried to type on this forum on a phone? Actually using punctuation, man, it sucks.

I was referring to Draug's case, where he was banned for the reasons you're all aware of, and then, as 2WL said, he made two multis to try to circumvent his ban. We caught them the same day he created them.

The process for multis is pretty simple (multis that are still running around, take note). If you're forthcoming about it and you haven't broken rules before, you'll probably get off with a stern warning and maybe a point dock depending on how well my day is going. If it's a major violation, i.e. you've ruined 10 games and knew you were breaking rules, you might get banned, and if you have broken other rules in the past or if we know that you know the rules (Draug's case), you'll be banned.

If you've been here long enough, you've probably come to appreciate the leniency to some degree, but at the same time, there are lines, and Draug crossed them *big time*. Any appeal chance he has gets shit on pretty hard only by the fact that he created more accounts after the fact knowing full well that he was not only breaking rule #1 but also circumventing his ban. Still, unless I'm being kept in the dark about it, there's no talk of an appeal on his case and based on the fun he's having turning vDip's forum into 4chan, I don't think he's ready to come back.

@Tolstoy ... I hate it when people talk down on other people like this, but you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about, so stop. Zultar explained it earlier to the extent that he felt was appropriate, so read up.

"Okay blankflag."

First, they came for blankflag. I did not speak out because I was annoyed by his crazy conspiracy theories.
Then they came for Draugnar, and I did not speak out because he could be really obnoxious sometimes.
Then they came for SYnapse, and I did not speak out because I was just too darned busy at the time.
Then they came for mapleleaf, and I did not speak out because he was an aggressively provocative troll.
Then they came for putin33, and I did not speak out because he was a commie and kind of an a-hole.
Then they came for me, and there was no one left with any deeply-held belief in free speech and a backbone to speak.

Ah. Either I'd missed it before or it has been recovered from the Memory Hole. Here, Jeff Kuta, is why Putin33 was banned:

Brief update:

Putin has been banned from the site. He has not been able to follow multiple moderators' requests not to go from thread to thread and continually complain. This was after he was asked not to attack another user and his family and what he does for a living. He was also unreasonable when he finally did respond to mods' emails, continually claiming that he alone was singled out and that somehow myself and the mod team applied special forum rules to him but not anyone else. He completely ignored all logic presented to him. In the end he was unable to resolve our differences and has basically said that he will continue to do what he does and won't consider changing his behavior. As a result, he has been banned from the site.

I wish him the best of luck in finding another Diplomacy site where he can play and express himself the way he wants."

I'm convinced quite a lot of you chaps go through the forum without ever really reading what other people say. Putin changed his mind in debates a number of times (not a huge number, but not tiny either) and had a great sense of humour.

More importantly he liked cricket and made up 100% of the Leeds overseas fan club.

He will be missed.

Does anybody remember the beautiful discussion we had with him on whether or not North Korea was a monarchy? He would insist that it wasn't, while I would insist that it was. This was during the period when Kim Jung Un acceded to power in N-Korea and there was some committee he was talking about, "the North Korean Security Committee" or something, that would clearly prove beyond a shred of doubt that N-Korea wasn't a monarchy, because it would elect some "Roh" guy and not "Kim" to chair it and that was the real power position in the country. There was no doubt that this would happen.

Of course, two days later the Dutch news would report that Kim himself had been appointed chairman of this very committee through some "glorious announcement" on N-Korea state TV.

Ahh good times.

I agree with Octavious though: although he was humorless in many areas, the moment he would use humor he could be very funny. And he would sometimes change his mind. I would sometimes change mine during a debate with him.

Most of you are students, and if the dean or principle call you in the office and tell you some thing needs to change or else, and you decide that you will just tell the dean that you going to continue, you know good and god damn well that you will be suspended or expelled. Well he was expelled.....BYE.

@mewmunich, if you read the whole thread, you will get a better understanding of what really happened. I'm not sure why people are getting lost on this. Zultar asked him to change some things and Putin said no. This is a private site and when you tell the establishment no, the owners can sure do what they please.
