Perception is projection my friend .... you read into my words what you want to believe and the context is all of your own creation, the words on their own have very little meaning until you bring them to life. Actually, you are reading into what I said. I never said you were any kind of -phobic. I pointed out that "faggot-munchers" is a hurtful and hateful gay slur. You used it as an insult to others (did you think it was a compliment or a statement of fact?) and so I said you need to stop doing that. But I never called you -phobic in any way shape or form.

Draug the point I am making is that regardless of what words I write I cannot feel any guilt if there is no meaning or intention to the words apart from a lazy troll. I know on this site a casual reference to religion or politics or sexuality can spark all sorts of weird and wonderful responses, you don't need to use much bait here to get a bite.

Agreed, but there are still some things that are taboo here. For instance, talk about having sex with someone's kin and you can a smackdown from the mods. I'm just saying that perhaps, even if you have no intent behind them, the fact that the etymology and current connotation of a phrase is derogatory and inflammatory would lead one to maybe reconsider their use as inappropriate.

In the Netherlands it seems to just mean weirdo or something. I don't think I've ever had any reason to believe it had anything to do with gay or women.

@mendax, despite having only visited the UK for 4 days in my life, I actually did hear that faggots were tasty meatballs. I was at a bar talking to a proper Englishman, about 6'5", 48 years old, and well built (id say pushing 22 stone, if he was a pebble). He had a thing for pizza, but once the conversation turned to meatballs, he told me that in the UK, they call them faggots ...but only if they're tasty. If they were just ok, then they were called pole smokers, and if they were really bad, then they were fudge packers.
