Who Else...
Watches series with really bad acting, one-dimensional characters, and a plot that is the same every episode and has become a industry standard (hot chick has a spicy job, partner with which she exchanges humor below the level of Hades' toilet, boss who is watching over them as a paternal figure, nothing to laugh at, nothing to cry at just a major cringe every time a line gets spoken with flat faces)?

OK, I'm new to this but as soon as the 5 minutes run out and we move to the next turn, there are only 30 seconds on the clock! It's annoying.

Trying to get to grips with the game in general.Just played a few no messaging anonymous games. Yet a clear pattern developed whereby different players would support other player's units that were in no danger at all. Is a common type of messaging e.g. ID132538#

Just The Tip
I'm curious how other people tip, especially in other countries, where it may not be as common.

I don't really tip unless the service is quite exceptional. In that case I may buy them a pie too though.

Overall though, if you want me to pay more, increase the price.

Don't think it's that common in the Netherlands anyway, and I'm also just a kid I suppose...

I always tip above 10% unless it's a restaurant with couvert that doesn't even cover tap water. Try that bullshit on someone else please.

spyman (424 D(G))

In some countries people are offended if you offer a tip, so I wouldn't automatically assume it will be taken as a good deed, just because it is normal in your home country.
In Australia tipping is optional. Personally I tip at restaurants, delivery food people (like pizza, Indian etc), and taxi drivers.
Someone mentioned that in the US you tip hairdressers. In Australia that would be considered very strange, and not at all the done thing.
Draugnar (0 DX)
25 Dec 13 UTC
The non-minimum wage thing in US restaurants is often to the wait persons advantage. They are taxed based on just 7% I think of their tickets pre tax and in some restaurants, they cam average 20% an evening and with finer restaurants tipping the best and having the highest prices, wait staff can take him several bills a night on a good Friday or Saturday.
JECE (1248 D)

Draugnar: You didn't write very clearly. But tips are also taxed, if you were saying otherwise.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
25 Dec 13 UTC
Yes, but if you tip in cash, how many people actually claim them?
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Dec 13 UTC
Yes, tips are taxed. They are taxed at what is claimed or 7% of receipts. A smart wait person tracks their total checks and claims 7%.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
26 Dec 13 UTC
A smart wait person does what their manager asks and a smart manager makes sure you record all of your tips otherwise the restaurant gets fined and the server gets fired......
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Dec 13 UTC
And how does the IRS know a cache tip of 30% got left? Seriously, if that burger joint has convinced you, when you need to look behind the curtain. Early in my IT career, I did a tip compensation program that ripped through all the records of the tables and recorded the total check, the written in tips for credit cards, and computed 7% for those checks not tipped by card, tallied it all up, and recorded it on the persons W2 along with their declared tips. They had to pay tax on the higher of the two. So long as you report CC tips in full and 7% on cash tips, you are fine.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
26 Dec 13 UTC
You check out at the end of every night. The restaurant knows every bill that got paid within your section. If something doesn't add up, it's pretty obvious.

They've got it covered, Draug. You assume for whatever reason that restaurants support fraud on the part of their employees.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Dec 13 UTC
It's not fraud. They don't know what cash got left on the table. You are required to report cash tips up to 7% of the total bill and all credit card tips. Check with a tax accountant. I know your rich dad has one. He will tell you. It isn't fraud to tale advantage of a tax loophole. That is what they are there for and only an idiot doesn't do it.
It's your legal obligation to claim what you've earned.
Draugnar (0 DX)

Don't listen to me or to Lando. Discuss it with your tax attorney.

Out of curiosity, how many waiters do you think can afford tax attorneys?
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
26 Dec 13 UTC
My dad has a tax attorney. He's telling me I should ask him how to cheat. If were going to evade my taxes, I'd completely evade them, not just a few pennies worth.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
26 Dec 13 UTC
Evading taxes is wrong. Following laws that allow you to pay less in taxes is not.
Draugnar (0 DX)
26 Dec 13 UTC
Exactly. I'm not saying evade. I'm saying take advantage of every loophole and talk to a tax attorney.
Like many areas, what the law says and what is enforced in practice are different. You don't need a "tax attorney" to figure out that claiming a reasonable amount of your tip income will satisfy tax agencies.

I've started some "play work" driving a taxi ( in Australia )
so I earn less than the minimum wage,
and technically I am not a wage earner, I act as a contractor.
(so I am technically a small business operator )
Approx 70% of cash paying customers tip me
Less than 5% of customers who use a card & eftpos to pay tip me
doesn't appear to matter what type of card, credit savings or debit
.... so far. I do keep stats on tips and who is tipping.
let me give this advice to punters who want to use a card to pay:
use the card to pay the meter'd fare, and give a small (or large) tip in coins / cash
if you include the tip on the card payment it has to be declared to the Taxman, but it also complicates the "split" of the shift takings with the taxi owner.

I'm definitely not doing it for the remuneration level,
taxi driving is typically an entry level job for male emigrants to a country
& I can make far more money in a far more demanding form of employment.
I'm trying it out for other reasons & regard it as "play work"
At least I know what I'm talking about in the "Minimum wage" threads unlike those polemical ponces who prescribe for others what they will not do themselves.
It's fun and my Punjabi and Sikh brothers behind the steering wheels of taxis are a somewhat colourful crowd & at times some, but not all, have an interesting approach to ethics and the accepted behaviours at taxi ranks

For example, How do I know when the Taxi Cops, like the ever present Angel of Death are about to descend upon a taxi rank ?
When I see 6 to 8 taxis, driven by my Punjabi & Sikh brothers suddenly depart the rank without customers.

Is it racist of me to exploit the racism of some of my customers ?
The convention is for customers to choose the first taxi in the line up at a taxi rank, but it is actually the customers choice, they can pick any taxi in the line up.
I've found that by having the map reading lights on at night whilst waiting in a taxi rank means potential customers can see I am an old white fart ( found this out one night as I was waiting at a taxi rank and doing paperwork with map lights on )
Customers choose my taxi despite me being well back in the line up because the other drivers are not white chaps & they tell me this.
Now I cannot refuse a fare or customer because I might think they are racist.
I can only refuse a fare or customer if:
1 the customer behaves in a way that is threatening or offensive
2 the customer is so dirty they will soil the taxi eg cover'd in vomit /grease & dirt
3 they refuse to show "proof of payment" when requested
4 the customer is so grossly affected by drugs or alcohol that they are incapable
of properly using the taxi ( ie they cannot get into the taxi, put on a safety belt, give coherent instructions to the driver )

I cannot under the Law refuse a customer because of their political or religious opinions or beliefs, their sex, race, age etc ( sexual orientation )
Some drivers were refusing homosexual men, because the religious beliefs of the drivers perpetuated the ignorant myth that homosexual men were an abomination in their God's eyes, and as dutiful subjects to this ignorance they figured that taking these customers was against a certain type of religious laws hint, think Islamic extreme conservative, and were worried they might "catch the sickness that is homosexuality"
not from a toilet seat but from the "homo germs" left on the taxi seat.

I cannot refuse a customer because I might think their beliefs/attitudes are racist
If I pander to the prejudices of my customers I earn more in tips
MajorMitchell (1874 D)
27 Dec 13 UTC
that "homosexuality is a sickness" crap would be laughable
except that there are people who actually believe it to be true.
It would certainly make for a novel "I can't come to work today because......" excuse
Like " I can't come in to work today. I'm feeling a bit crook, ate a quiche last night & I'm feeling a bit homo today. Should be right by tomorow Boss, I've made an appointment to see a specialist Prostitute this arvo, one good proper christian head job & I'll be as right as ninepence"
