How to play Russia in Gunboat
Title. I suck at Russia in gunboat. I have no clue what high level strategy I should be going for. I just always die after accomplishing virtually nothing.

Geoguessr, anyone?
I was wondering if anyone else plays it. It seems like the kind of thing folks around here might like.

Rhyme Time II
I'm looking for a few good word magicians. Give me your nobles, your humble and fancy patricians. I need 7 players to commit to a time; to play an unranked press game whose objective is rhyme.

Lizard People Control Trump!!!!!
CNN has just reported that some people saw lizard people talking to Trump in the White House today. This confirms that we Americans are oppressed and should go riot somewhere. Maybe crash a few windows and raid while we are at it.

Completely Anon Game.
Hey, a player wanted me to advertise a completely anon game. Here is the link: http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=191149

I'm not playing obviously because it's completely anon. If you join, please do NOT post here or anywhere that you've joined. I'll periodically bump this thread until it fills.

Feature request: expand mod powers
I've noticed that a lot of people have been having issues with mod's decisions lately and I think the forum would be a better place if the mods/ admins had the powers to do more than just ban a user and if they were allowed to, for example, also kill the user's family. Implementing a "-1 and ban" feature underneath the +1 feature may also be funny to watch. Thank you and I hope you take my ideas into consideration.

Who is snowy801?
Balduran (119 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC
He and I are new to webdip mafia.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC
My role is quite normal. No craziness in this one.
snowy801 (591 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC
I'm the painfully obviously town player who will no doubt get lynched d1 regardless.
snowy801 (591 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC
Also yeah Balduran and I know each other outside the site. He pulled me into this madness.

Question: is this a day start game?
It is, yes. Or, they usually are
Durga (3609 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC
This is indeed a day start game.

And interesting information, as you know please do not meta-game if you both know each other outside of the site.
snowy801 (591 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC
Of course.
Balduran (119 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC
I've seen snowy play mafia before, is it against the rules to scum/townread him based off that? (or vice versa)
I know you guys comment on people's meta-game, but I realize it could be different since the games you guys reference are mostly available for public perusal.

Half of our game will be meta. You might have some catching up to do in that regard.

People on the subs list are allowed access to the spectator QT?

Wow, that's new.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
06 Feb 17 UTC

That's completely normal.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC
Completely normal? I wouldn't have allowed it in the last game (not that anyone asked). Surely this allows people on the subs list to be coached by experienced players who happen not to be participating this time??
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
06 Feb 17 UTC

Yes, and it also allows them to keep up with the game in case they are subbed in.
Durga (3609 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC

It isn't new, as I copied that rule from a previous game :p
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC
It allows them access to commentary and observation not allowed to the starting players and creates an information asymmetry. It's ludicrous. I have not seen that once in the past 10 games. Which game was that last mentioned in the rules?
Balduran (119 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC
As far as getting informed about meta, and particular mafia game to reread for most mileage? I'll probably can't read many before I'm dead or there's enough information in-thread to work off of anyway.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
06 Feb 17 UTC
Hey, Jamie, I have an idea. How about you just accept it for what it is, not spend this entire game pestering the GMs, and get on with life? It is perfectly rational for the spectators to include subs who, by their own choice, may end up playing in the game. They can communicate with other spectators and air their concerns, guess at what is going on, make reads, etc etc. It is a way for subs to enjoy the game and keep track of it before actually playing in it. It does not create any "information asymmetry" because they start with the same amount of information that town does: none.
VashtaNeurotic (2394 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC

I mean bo, I believe the information asymmetry is caused when they sub and have knowledge of what was said in the spectator thread, while the other players will not.
dargorygel (2596 DMod(G))

If we were talking about the GOD QT, I would of course agree. But it is helpful to let them read observer stuff.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC
They may be able to benefit from the advice and analysis of experienced players in a special QT which is denied to starting participants. This is unbalanced and stupid.
Durga (3609 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC
I don't particularly mind not sharing it with the subs, as I have not sent them the link. All this means is that anyone in the spectator thread can not sub in if necessary. I'll let the council decide on this one.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
06 Feb 17 UTC
@Vash ... if anyone feels like they're missing out on the good ol spectator thread, they can offer to sub and join it for awhile.
Fluminator (1500 D)

Getting players in the Spectator QT to replace in (if a sub was needed) was official protocol from M1 through about M10. I don't think the rule was ever officially repealed, but with the decline in popularity of observer QTs in general it fell out of tradition.

The reason for this was that often subs were hard to find, and most of the players interested in Mafia but not playing would be in the Obs QT. The insights of players outside of the game was not thought to be a massive issue as compared with the downside of not being able to find replacements if it was not the case.

After talking it over, we've ruled that the mafia community has grown enough that this is not necessary anymore. Players on the designated sub list should not have access to the Spectator QT due to the certain unbiased viewpoints they would have access to there, and also due to the fact that a whole new Spectator QT would have to be created every time a player was subbed in.
Durga (3609 D)
06 Feb 17 UTC
Lol, thanks meme. No subs in the spectator QT then :p

If I host an anonymous game, can I advertise it on the forum? It's not technically against the rules, but some might find it undesirable to know anything about who's in the game.

Feature request: time clock location
It would be really nice to have the countdown clock right above the order menu. That way one wouldn't have to scroll up to see how many precious seconds are left (wasting precious seconds). Would be pretty useful toward the end of the 5-minute 1v1's in which there are a lot of orders to fill.
