PORK RINDS -- Is it JUST ME???
Question: Has anyone else notice that pork rinds seem to be completely devoid of nutrition or tastiness? That their outlandish texture often completely conficts with our delicate sensibilities, and often suggest that we should spit them up or cover them with hot sauce?

new stats in the works
I have a goal to finish stats that look at the following: a solo layout for each power that looks at the centers owned by each country and the frequency of control, i will also separate WA and PPSC win/draw stats, the number of centers a country needs to feel secure in the idea that it has likely minimized the likelihood it will be eliminated, and an update on my prior work. important about 40% done and hope to have it done by the end of the semester.

OK, a mental illness then. But that is complicated by the fact that you cannot expect a mentally ill person to take responsibility for his actions.

Hey wait, ora... I reject your implication that any man who would rather not be with a trans woman is a bigot. I fully respect the rights and equality of trans people everywhere to pursue happiness, and I do this while maintaining that they must respect my preference to be with only those who were born female.

This does not make me a bigot. I will again say that the responsibility for disclosure lies with the trans person, for the following reasons:

1: It is unreasonable to ask every hetero man to ask a potential partner if she was born a woman. This will anger/insult a lot of hetero females, I'm not justifying that, but you can't deny the reality of it.

2: It is not unreasonable to assume that a hetero man will be surprised and angry if he finds out that the woman he just had sex with was born a man

3: Even if hetero men DID ask every woman, would that then make the rejection or "cultural frustration" the transsexual feels when the disclosure is forced upon them any less potent? No, their feelings will be hurt just as much. It would be just as constant a reminder that society feels that they are "not real women" as if they themselves disclosed. An attempt to put the onus on the heterosexual is, in my opinion, an attempt to validate lying by omission.

2: It is not unreasonable to assume that a hetero man will be surprised and angry if he finds out that the woman he just had sex with was born a man - why?

Mafia, please note I did not say that the anger was reasonable (that's an entirely different argument).

I said it is not unreasonable to acknowledge that it is reality.

Please don't think me ignorant of the broader social issue here, I fully respect it. I just think that this kind of argument hurts the LGBT cause more than it helps. It may be "right" to believe that they should have equality now and without question (and it is!) but it is not realistic to expect that.

To make progress, transgendereds need to admit it's going to be a stony road, and arguing that they ought not need to disclose is not going to win them any points with the people that could bring them closer to their goals, and in fact it puts ammo in the hands of their enemies

1. I'm not accusing you of anything, no need to get so defensive.
2. You still haven't actually answered my question. Why is it reasonable for a straight man to be upset that he had sex with a trans person?
3. I'm not a big fan of the "The minority group should kowtow to the desires of the powerful group in order to make social progress" argument.
Mafialligator (239 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
err that should say the word "points" not the D symbol.
Vaftrudner (2533 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
I like articles like these though, because the reason men get upset when they sleep with a post-op MTF is completely cultural, and for a culture to change, the majority needs to acknowledge and understand the point of view of the minority. She might have extreme views, but that only means that she'll reach more people, who might disagree but will have had their views challenged, which is progress, and may lead to understanding. It's an interesting but completely different discussion, whether or not things help or hurt causes. For example, has the SCUM Manifesto helped raise feminist issues or has it only cemented a stereotype of feminists as female man-haters?
Invictus (240 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
"Why is it reasonable for a straight man to be upset that he had sex with a trans person?"

Because technically, in the chromosomes, that person is still male. A heterosexual person by definition would not want to have intercourse with someone of the same sex. That's why they would be upset, even if they had an open mind about transsexualism in general. It's not bigoted to be repulsed by the idea sexually but still believe people can live their lives like that if they want.
Vaftrudner (2533 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
Haha, I might be picky with whom I sleep with, but I must admit that I have never sampled their cells and checked the chromosomes in a microscope before coitus.
Mafialligator (239 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
Also people really need to understand what it's like to fear violence. You aren't a violent person, you think abusing a trans person is wrong? Good for you. There's no way however for a trans person to know that about you, and they can't just give everyone the benefit of the doubt. That's a good way to end up in serious trouble very quickly. You see the dilemma? Disclosing is physically risky. Does that mean transpeople shouldn't have sex lives? I don't think so.
Mafialligator (239 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
But to put so much importance on chromosomal sex is to show a certain anti-trans bias Invictus. If you think that fundamentally a transwoman is still a man because of their chromosomes is still a transphobic thing to think.
Invictus (240 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
Transsexuals lying about who they are is bad, just like if I lied and said I owned a diamond mine in order to get with some chick.
Mafialligator (239 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
When a woman tells you "I'm a woman" how is she lying about who she is? She is a woman. Gender is not determined by chromosomes.
Invictus (240 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
It would matter. Maybe not in daily life, but in a physical situation like that it would. Sorry, but it's true for most people.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
23 Mar 12 UTC
1. I don't think I was being defensive. I just wanted to reaffirm that I respect the broader LGBT rights while disagreeing with you on this subject.

2: I think you answer your own question. A straight man wants to be with a person who was born a woman, and may feel betrayed if he discovers that the person he just had sex with is not. Even though his lover considers herself female, he may consider her male. He may very well consider what he has done a homosexual act. He may feel that he has then had homosexuality imposed upon him. But he'll most definitely be upset that she took his right to an informed decision away from him. Can you really blame him if he gets upset over this?

3: I'm not suggesting kowtowing to anything. But convincing moderates (people to the right of me!) that transgendereds feel they have no moral obligation to disclose to straight men is not going to help your cause. It is going to trigger fear and give the religious right an excuse to create yet another witchhunt (Could you be SURPRISED into GAYNESS and not KNOW it??). Pursuing this line of argument will hurt your progress, whether you are a "big fan," of it or not, I think it's reality.

It's far better to try your best to be perceived as honest people with morals and integrity, who at the end of the day have NO desire to perpetuate a sex act with somebody who may later come to regret it.
Mafialligator (239 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
But the reasons they would regret it are wrong!

2. But thinking that a transwoman is actually a man is a bigoted thing to think. Like, if you think that, you're wrong. Period.

3. The first sentence of this reply is very much at odds with the rest of the paragraph. I'm not sure you know what kowtowing means in this context, because the rest of your argument is a pretty good description of kowtowing.
KoF (171 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
Assuming post-op, I pretty much agree with the article. Up to the point where being trans (MtF or FtM) actually could negatively affect the partner, due to issues like, for example, infertility (for getting married), it shouldn't really need to be said. As I understand it, sex happens pretty much the same regardless of what your genitals started out as, and if it's just sex, well...
Invictus (240 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
"But the reasons they would regret it are wrong!"

So it's not enough to be alright with people living like that if they so choose, we have to be alright having sex with them? No! I'm sorry, but that's too far.
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
23 Mar 12 UTC
2: Perhaps I oversimplified. Whatever a transwoman is, it is not a natural-born woman, which is what the hetero man thought he was getting. You did not answering the most important thing here, which is that in my opinion everybody has the right to make an informed decision in this matter. Do you agree?

3: Kowtow: to act in an obsequious manner; show servile deference.
I don't think you're being fair by saying this is what I'm suggesting with my response
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
23 Mar 12 UTC
sorry about the "it" there, I see that could be construed negatively. Wasn't thinking.
Mafialligator (239 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
But why is the natural born part so important. You want to have sex with someone based on what their genitals looked like when they were a baby? That's pretty weird actually. I mean, I know that's not actually what your saying and clearly I'm just making a point. But think about it, why does that matter so much?
Yellowjacket (835 D(B))
23 Mar 12 UTC
It doesn't matter why it matters :P I suspect each person has their own reasons.

What matters is the reality that to many people it DOES matter. This is fact, right? So again, I ask you, do they have a right to know or not?
Mafialligator (239 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
Nnnnnnnnnnnno.... I... I don't think so.
I think if they ask they have a right not to be lied to. But that's as far as it goes.

I can't believe this is a serious topic of discussion.
Mafialligator (239 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
Really? I dunno. It's a thing that happens, and social issue discussions certainly come up on this site.
Invictus (240 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
It just does. If I knew, it would be a deal breaker, in the same sort of way finding out someone was married would be a deal breaker. If you really don't understand how much this would bother people then you're just in a very different world than the rest of us.

But I guess that just makes me an irredeemable bigot who hates transsexuals because I'm not attracted to them. It's never enough...
redhouse1938 (429 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
I can think of no heterosexual man who would have sex with a MtF and be sort of easy about it. But also, I can't think of a situation where I wouldn't be able to distinguish a woman from an MtF when you got to that point in your relationship.
redhouse1938 (429 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
"If you really don't understand how much this would bother people then you're just in a very different world than the rest of us."

-Exactly
Mafialligator (239 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
Oh poor Invictus. No one appreciates how hard it is to be a straight white cisgendered man. I'm so sorry I suggested you might be wrong about something. That was mean of me wasn't it?

Look, what you have to acknowledge is that the hang up is YOUR PROBLEM. NOT THEIRS.

"It just does. If I knew, it would be a deal breaker, in the same sort of way finding out someone was married would be a deal breaker" - I'm sorry, that's not good enough. That's not an explanation.
Vaftrudner (2533 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
I know of at least one straight male friend who has slept with a MtF without any issues. He said that if she looks like a woman, she's a woman to him. Seems like a sensible point of view. And this discussion comes up a lot since I'm interested in LGBT topics and also I'm a godless deviant, so I've talked to my friends a lot, and many hetero friends claim to have no problem with it, some do. I'm not drawing any conclusions from this, it's just a small number of people, but at least I have counter-examples to your "I can think of no heterosexual man", redhouse.
Mafialligator (239 D)
23 Mar 12 UTC
""If you really don't understand how much this would bother people then you're just in a very different world than the rest of us."

-Exactly" - That is certainly so. My goal here is to bring you into the world I'm in. Just because you're all in the same world together, doesn't mean it's the correct world to be in. And it sure as hell won't hurt you to try and consider a different point of view.
