A Question About US/UK TV...
Well, all my friends like Doctor who, so I've taken to watching it...and a friend told me DW was still in B&W in 1966...while Kirk was fighting that hilariously-rubber-suited Gorn in color already? On the other side of the coin...we seem to borrow some TV shows and ideas from Across the Pond...why is the BBC behind tech-wise and US TV behind "idea-wise?" (Are we...or is this just me?)

Lowes pulls advertising from TLC's All-American Muslim
Good to know Lowes thinks a show about people merely living as families in the United States is a political lightning rod. Home Depot it is.

Top 5 albums of your lifetime
By your lifetime, I mean music that you listened to when it came out. I'm born in '87 but I'm not going to list Nevermind. Kapeesh?

Also Meg White's "let's hit this one now and see what happens" approach to drumming can grate after a while.

I do prefer white blood cells but I only started listening to it a couple of years after it came out so I went with my second favourite. Likewise, odelay blows guero out of the water but I was too young to hear it when it first came out.

Other albums that I'd have to consider for my list that i forgot to post are
Wilco - sky blue sky (missed Yankee foxtrot and I may even prefer this one)
The tallest man on earth - wild hunt (definitely my most played album lately)

Putin, I prob would have fleet foxes' self titled album on my list too but I think i prefer helplessness blues just a wee bit more

Damn it webdip and your topics and your making me spend money...just realized that I don't have one of my picks (Automatic For The People) in any form any more, had to go buy it. I never would have realized that without this topic.
Pantera (0 DX)

1. Pantera - Cowboys From Hell
2. Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
3. Pantera - Far Beyond Driven
4. Pantera - The Great Southern Trendkill
5. Pantera - Reinventing The Steel

*ask me again tomorrow blah blah blah and similar clichéd but true introduction*

Ulytau - Jumyr-Kylysh (2006)
Iron Maiden - Dance of Death (2003)
Hugo Toxxx - Rok Psa (2008)
Infected Mushroom - Vicious Delicious (2007)
Dropkick Murphys - The Warrior's Code (2005)

Note that the first eligible year is 2002.

Just wanted to start by saying, that I really started listening to music in elementary school thanks to my older siblings, so that figures in. I listened to most of these right from the beginning and as the years go by just continue to love and appreciate them.

1. By the Way -RHCP
2. White Blood Cells -White Stripes
3. Favourite Worst Nightmare -Arctic Monkeys
4. Shadows on the Sun -Brother Ali
5. Stankonia -Outkast (Probably pushing it with this one, but by the time I was 10 it was one of the few albums I actually owned)
2ndWhiteLine (2601 D(B))

Starting in, say, 1998:

1. Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
2. Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
3. LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
4. Black Keys - Brothers
5. RHCP - Californication

Man, good question. I thought about this for about twenty minutes Also wanted to include:

Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters
Radiohead - OK Computer
Drive By Truckers - Southern Rock Opera
Bob Dylan - Love And Theft

I've listened to all of these pretty consistently since they came out. I used to be a U2 fan around the time of All That You Can't Leave Behind, but that album got stale for me a few years ago. It's a good reminder that there's still a lot of good music being made, despite what's being played on the radio.

@Yonni I have seen both Plants and Animals and Yukon Blonde live in concert. And they are both fucking excellent.

Some albums from me, but I will preface by saying that I believe it is impossible to truly narrow it down to a few:

Clipse - Hell Hath No Fury (2006)
Lil' Wayne - Da Drought 3 (2007)
Phosphorescent - Here's to Taking it Easy (2010)
Cave Singers - Invitation Songs (2007)
New Pornographers - Twin CInema (2005)
Rural Alberta Advantage - Hometowns (2008)
Jamey Johnson - Guitar Song (2010)
Black Mountain - In The Future (2008)
Mike Jones - Who is Mike Jones? (2005)
One Hundred Dollars - Forest of Tears (2008)
Portugal. The Man - Satanic Satanist (2009)
Only built for Cuban Linx Pt. II - Raekwon (2009)
Zeus - Say Us (2010)
T.I. - King (2006)
UGK - Underground Kingz (2007)
Yeasayer - All Hour Cymbals (2007)

Too man? Sorry. There are soo many more.

@2nd - sound of silver would for sure make my list if I listened to him earlier. Just a phenomenal album

@lando - of course you have. CanCon is only so limited, right? ; )
Yukon blonde is particularly awesome live.
I saw YB play at Lee's about a month ago with Great Bloomers opening (another great band). Some friends were the first band which made it even more fun. YB played for way more than an hour. One of my favourite concerts ever.

Were you there for the first band, 'Sandman Viper Command'?
Yonni (136 D(S))

Not sure if i was there for the first band. Night was hazy at best.

If I'm in town then sure. Just moved away from the big city recently so who knows when I'll be around. Also, green room? That place was shut down for a reason

Rush 2112
Led Zeppelin IV
Queensryche Operation Mindcrime
Bob Marley Babylon By Bus
Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill

These come to mind, but by no means exclusive.
Green Room is a great place. It's back open. Just don't order anything to eat.

Rush - Moving Pictures
Peter Frampton - Framtpon Comes Alive
Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Pink Floyd - The Wall
The Who - Who's Next and Tommy (tied for fifth)

Ugh, sorry. I'm no music snob, but Rush? :(
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Dec 11 UTC
Yes, Rush. And I was limiting myself to 5. Yes' Fragile and 90125 should also be in there somewhere along with Moody Blues' Days of Future Past
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Dec 11 UTC
Also, there should be a number of Beatles albums, at least for my lifetime. I was born in 66, so there is a lot of other music that ranks up there in the top 20.
Yonni (136 D(S))
12 Dec 11 UTC
Rush has to be one of the most polarizing bands of all time. They have a massive following but some people just can't stand them.

What is it Putin, the constant Ayn Rand references? Geddy's voice?

Personally I think they're great. And I'd definitely put moving pictures ahead of 2112
Yonni (136 D(S))

@Draugnar -- you have listed memories of my musical past from many years ago (we are both Cincinnatians as well, but you have one year on me, I was born in 67)

I'd rather listen to Marge Simpson sing than Geddy Lee.
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Dec 11 UTC
So I may have to plop on some other stuff in place of The Who and dark side as I was under 10 for them.

So...

Rush - Moving Pictures
Frampton Comes Alive
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Queen - The Game
Prince - Purple Rain
Journey - Escape
Van Halen - 1984 & 5150
Boston - all three of their first albums. I may have been a couple years behind on Boston, but I was into them before Don't Look Back dropped.

You forgot Tool and your list would be complete ;)
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Dec 11 UTC
Well, I also didn't include War or Springsteen or The Stones. And I didn't include some of the more modern stuff like Staind (Illusion of Progress is great) or Metallica (S&M is an *awesome* album). And I stuck with Rock, not covering the jazz I also listened to as a preteen and teen or the stuff I listen to today like Diana Krall or Keikp Matsui.
