A Question About US/UK TV...
Well, all my friends like Doctor who, so I've taken to watching it...and a friend told me DW was still in B&W in 1966...while Kirk was fighting that hilariously-rubber-suited Gorn in color already? On the other side of the coin...we seem to borrow some TV shows and ideas from Across the Pond...why is the BBC behind tech-wise and US TV behind "idea-wise?" (Are we...or is this just me?)

Good to know Lowes thinks a show about people merely living as families in the United States is a political lightning rod. Home Depot it is.

Diplomat, every time I almost stop hating you you say something like that and bring yourself back to square 1. My favorite OS is Linux Mint and my favorite programming languages are Python, C, and LISP, depending on what I'm doing (Java 7 might move up to that level too, but I'll need to play around with it for a while first).

"hmm maybe the order is not so random after all..." This isn't the kind of sentence you want to read immediately after someone lists their girlfriend right next to their mother in terms of favourite things.

Had to google the butterfly position. Turns out I was aware of that one, I just didn't know what it was called. Honestly, why do they all need names. I mean, are you really going to say to your partner, "Hey why don't we try the reverse butterfly, I looked it up on this handy chart and it looks kinda neat."
Thucydides (864 D(B))

because naming it makes it easier to talk about instead of describing. you dont usually use the names in actual sex though, lol, it just happens.

also draug why didnt you answer half of them. like what word do you find most useful

I was going to answer, but I just have never thought about my favourite of so many of those things. Favourite star cluster? Favourite familial relationship? I don't know.

"which came first, your russophilia or your communism?"

More of a Slavophilia, and my M-L politics came first, although the two aren't related very much. Most of the M-Lers I know dislike Russia & aren't particularly enamored with Tito.

@Thucy - those I didn't answer I had no asnwer for. I have (as most of us here do) a fairly expansive and comprehensive vocabulary. As a result, selecting one single word as a favorite is out of the realm of realism. If I had to, I'd say polymorphic or maybe elcletic or diverse.

Constellation? I couldn't care less about astrology.
Year? I guess if I had to pick, 1976. I turned 10 and America turned 200.
Mafialligator (239 D)
07 Dec 11 UTC
Constellations are not necessarily astrology related. They're also used in actual astronomy as well. But I agree, I just chose the only one I'm actually aware enough of to find fairly easily.

I fnally figured it out. Obi got the pleasure centers of his brain lobotomized. He doesn't like food or sex. I bet he dopesn't even really like "Tea, Earl Grey, hot" but drinks it because Captain Picard does.

Food just really doesn't appeal to me that much...

I eat once a day, just enough to keep going, and I'm sure to drink plenty of liquids.

And nah...I really do like Earl Grey Tea, Draug, it's a good Black tea with a good aroma and taste to it...

But I won't lie I first heard of it way back when I was a kid hearing the Cap'n of the Enterprise order it... :p

(And I've already gone over the sex thing...sort of like food, really--it just doesn't appeal to me, and as I'm not a Vulcan and don't need to get laid every seven years or die...

Besides, I'm generally far too much of an asshole in public, and if I ever did have a girlfriend, I'd want to be able to treat her to anything she wanted, so that's not happening when I've no job besides tutoring and an actual life ahead of me still...

..And to be honest, if I ever DID find a girl I really liked, I'd probably go for friendship and not love, anyway--I wouldn't want to risk losing a beneficial friend on the unreliable and illogical shores of love...I've seen that do in more than one previously-good-friendship already...)

@Putin:

Surprisingly enough, I actually have LOW blood pressure for some reason...

Every time I get a remicade infusion, all the nurses freak out because it's low...???)

"I'm not a Vulcan and don't need to get laid every seven years or die"

That's OK. We all know that was just added in for the ratings, anyway.

"I've seen that do in more than one previously-good-friendship already"

IMHO, then they weren't that good of friends with anyway.
Mafialligator (239 D)
07 Dec 11 UTC
Once a day. That is unhealthy. Also that sounds like a hellish existence. One meal a day and no sex? No thank you. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you also don't drink, do you?

Also I did the same thing with earl grey tea. And I also quite like it, but it's certainly not my favourite beverage.
Mafialligator (239 D)
07 Dec 11 UTC
By drink I mean drink alcohol. Obviously you drink tea.

Draugnar (0 DX)

Earl Grey is one of my favorite teas, the others being Indian tea aka Chai and a variety of non-caffiene herbals and fruit based teas. I love a good apple cinnamon or blueberry.

And Chai is probably my favorite drink overall. Alcohol wise, it would be Glenlivet 17 or another fine single malt highland scotch.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
07 Dec 11 UTC
@Mafi:

No, I can't drink alcohol because of the particular seizure meds I'm on (plus, for all those legal-minded folks, I'm, what, three weeks away or so from being able to drink legally?)

But I'd like to...

Kinda odd being the only one amongst my friends who doesn't drink, and I do like beverages, generally...

But, nah, it's not hellish.

Get up, tea, bus, tea, class, bathroom, break, soda, class, break, tea, bus, bathroom...home, procrastinate, soda, tea, soda...

And then somewhere around 11pm-1am, if I'm still awake and hungry, I'll make something to eat--and by make something I mean microwave the fuck out of whatever's lying around.
obiwanobiwan (248 D)
07 Dec 11 UTC
It's pretty standard...

The conversations I have, however, are not--THAT makes my day...
