1. The NHL has leapfrogged the beleaguered NBA as 3rd most popular out of the Big Four Leagues (NFL way in first, MLB in a distant-but-decent 2nd?)

Transferring control of a country
We have a player in our game who is not going to be able to continue because he is too busy with work and just doesn't have time to commit to playing well.

Is there a way for the mods to substitute another account for his, or should we just have someone sit on his account for the remainder of the game?

My brother and I drove from our home in New York to a friend's house. On the way there, I drove the first forty miles, and my brother drove the rest of the way. On the way back, my brother drove the first leg of the trip, and I drove the last fifty miles. Who drove the most miles, and how many more miles did that person drive?

I can do it, turn the first off the second on, and the third on for a while and then off. Go upstairs, and check which unlit bulb is hot.

well, from my logic, it was like this. If any of those statements are right, then all others are wrong. so therefore, 9 will be wrong with only 1 right

You are the ruler of a medieval empire and you are about to have a celebration tomorrow. The celebration is the most important party you have ever hosted. You've got 1000 bottles of wine you were planning to open for the celebration, but you find out that one of them is poisoned.

The poison exhibits no symptoms until death. Death occurs within ten to twenty hours after consuming even the minutest amount of poison.

You have over a thousand slaves at your disposal and just under 24 hours to determine which single bottle is poisoned.

You have a handful of prisoners about to be executed, and it would mar your celebration to have anyone else killed.

What is the smallest number of prisoners you must have to drink from the bottles to be absolutely sure to find the poisoned bottle within 24 hours?

This one will be harder and should take longer so good luck.
ghug (5068 D(B))

Moat of you have probably heard this one before, but I'll post it anyway:

There are 100 prisoners in solitary cells. There's a central living room with one light bulb; this bulb is initially off. No prisoner can see the light bulb from his or her own cell. Everyday, the warden picks a prisoner equally at random, and that prisoner visits the living room. While there, the prisoner can toggle the bulb if he or she wishes. Also, the prisoner has the option of asserting that all 100 prisoners have been to the living room by now. If this assertion is false, all 100 prisoners are shot. However, if it is indeed true, all prisoners are set free and inducted into MENSA, since the world could always use more smart people. Thus, the assertion should only be made if the prisoner is 100% certain of its validity. The prisoners are allowed to get together one night in the courtyard, to discuss a plan. What plan should they agree on, so that eventually, someone will make a correct assertion?

@ abgemacht, i did know the answer a few years ago, but i cant remember anymore. But after looking it up, i think you have to add the riddle only applies to the old generation light bulbs, i dont think the trick works with new generation led lightning.

@2nd

You messed your question up. You need to switch the driving order of you and your brother on the trip there.

I just heard this on Car Talk and was going nuts not being able to solve it : )

Haha, I tried to remember it verbatim but couldn't so I did the best I could. My brother drove 20 more :)

@Dip, 10 prisoners drink the wine after numbering the bottles with binary digits.
Diplomat33 (243 D(B))
06 Dec 11 UTC
And here is the answer. Choose one person is chosen as the counter. If the light switch is on, no prisoner will touch it. If it is off, and a prisoner who has never flicked the switch enters, then he flicks the switch on. It stays like that until the counter returns. The counter never flicks it up, only flicks it down. Once he notices that it's been flicked up 99 times, he says that 100 prisoners have visited, and they go free.
