Live Game
I apologize, but I couldn't locate that large thread specifically for live games. Therefore, I'm asking here if within the half hour or so anyone is interested in a live WTA game. Thanks...

Need to drop out of the Masters tournament
Real life is an issue and I need to reduce my game load. I'm going to try and finish out the League, but I need to drop out of the masters. I'm currently getting my butt kicked in Round 4 because of a couple of NMRs.

Advise for new players.
I believe if the game of Diplomacy grew in popularity then the world would be a better place. Why don't we all just throw together some advise for new players so we can increase the love of Diplomacy.

Gunboat Commendations
While it is discouraged to comment on ungoing gunboats, I must praise the cooperative effort of Austria & Russia in gameID=58974. Clearly they are taking partnership in gunboats to a level seldom seen around WebDip.

To everybody who left gameID=58907
Please realise that when you leave games, you change the entire balance of the game. It's worse when you leave in a game without messaging. I hope you burn in diplomacy hell.

To those people who joined the game in the middle looking for an easy draw and then left later, I hope you suffer the same fate repeatedly without respite.

So, it's the opening we all know. I've never had an italian win, and that's what I want to see. If you've taken italy to a win with a lepanto, let's see it here, and talk about how this opening tends to play out.

All nighters
I'm pulling an all-nighter to write a term paper and will most likely pull another this week to do an Econ regression analysis project, anybody got any good all-nighter stories?

@ akilies

Everyone who has posted a story on this thread should feel good. We need a break from boring opinion threads (that is what politics really is, anyway). I am proud to have contributed.

@ stukus.. ditto the never pulled an all nighter as an engineering student. Even now working on my master's I still have yet to pull an all-nighter studying. I did however have ramen in college, but only once. The 24-hr restaurant across the street from campus was closed down for a police investigation for a shooting and I didn't feel like driving to Denny's, so I bummed some ramen off another guy on my floor at 2 AM. I can't say I ever got less than 4 hrs of sleep though in college. Most of the time I was up late, I wasn't studying either. It was either Halo, my girlfriend (now wife), campus style mininature golf, or massive 20+ per team capture the flag games at 2AM accross campus.. My all-nighters have either been 24-7 testing at work for which I ran the graveyard shift and stayed up all the next day, or medical related.

And ditto the great thread.

I've been getting sick of all the opinion threads where people get all pissed, it's nice to "kick back" and just remember crazy times and share good moments with good people.

Contemplating whether I will need to pull another one this week, i'm thinking not. If I do though, I would expect numerous postings to this thread- non of them would make sense :)

I used to work a job that had 12 hour shifts ending at 5 am. My girlfriend at the time was not a stripper (because strippers have some level of class, she was...never mind, that's kind of spoilaz). But we'd decided to take a six hour drive to my parents' house right after I got out of work. I had been up since 8 am, since I also took a few college classes. She'd been asleep since 10 pm, so clearly the wise decision was that I drive and she nap in the passenger seat.

I drove a Honda CR-X at the time, which is half of a Civic. That becomes important.

So, it was a blizzard, of course. The freeway was down to one lane. Ahead of me, a semi was going way slower than they needed to, but the passing lane was not plowed. Eventually, I got to a spot where it was plowed, so I went to pass.

It was plowed, alright, but it was also coated with ice. My car slid so I was looking at the semi. I corrected. Now I was facing a concrete abutment. Turn. Semi. Turn. Abutment. Turn. Semi. Turn. Abutment. In half a Civic. Eventually, I got the car under control and stopped it to catch my breath. Girlfriend wakes up.

"Are we in the ditch?" shes asks annoyingly.

I almost made her get out of the car.

what a story. did you end up marrying her?
SacredDigits (102 D)
11 May 11 UTC
No, my break-up with that girl is a very interesting story of its own, but did not involve an all-nighter.
figlesquidge (2131 D)
11 May 11 UTC
@Sacred - Maybe its just me, and maybe you were trying to mislead us, but why does it matter it was half a civic?
Leif_Syverson (271 D)
11 May 11 UTC
@ sacred, great story, horrible trip.. figles' got a bit of a point though. doesn't matter much if it's half a civic or ford F350 when a semi is potentially involved..
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
11 May 11 UTC
I'd rather be in an F-350 in that situation
Leif_Syverson (271 D)
11 May 11 UTC
Sure same here, but when it comes down to it.. the semi still has the drop on either vehicle.. it's just over more quickly in half a civic.
akilies (861 D)

For snowy conditions I'm a fan of my subaru :) I continuously put myself in positions where i might spin out or his a snow bank, it's good fun :)
SacredDigits (102 D)
11 May 11 UTC
The 350 could take the abuttment better than the Civic, I guess.

It was important to me!
Back in fall my fraternity had our quarterly open party (something like 1500 people partying at our house throughout the night) on Thursday. I blacked out and pissed in my trashcan. I woke up after six hours sleep and went to class. That night we went to Vegas, didn't sleep and I got stuck driving back. As soon as I got back I had to go to a rugby game. Instead of sleeping after the game I went to the rugby social and then I partied with some friends till 3am. In the space of 70 hours I'd slept for maybe 7 hours. I'd also blacked out, driven to Vegas from LA, played a rugby game and then almost balcked out again.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
12 May 11 UTC
@ Leif

Very true. Any vehicle smaller than a semi would lose to a semi (an F-650 might hold its own, but it's a small semi itself)

@ akilies

My Ford Ranger is good in snowy conditions. It is a very nice little pickup truck, it can carry/pull almost as much as bigger trucks, and the gas mileage is not too terrible.

LJ + 1 for a very good story. That is definitely one of the best so far. I bet that was a great 70 hours.

how about an F-28000, i heard those things are beast ;)

I'm more a fan of the 5-16's but i guess that is a personal preference :)

Well good news, i didnt have to pull an all-nighter for my Econ regression analysis project :) so no whacked out reposes from me tonight
