At this point there doesn't seem much point. The Egyptian doesn't need to get even more of a reward for his actions.

No. You're right. I would absolutely expect that. But in almost every gunboat, I would expect France and Germany to open to Burgundy, Turkey and Russia to open to the Black Sea and Russia and Austria to open to Galicia. So by your logic, should I be able to recommend these moves to everyone I'm playing an ongoing gunboat with? No. That's patently absurd.

Gunboats are a very pure type of game. The entire idea is that there is NOTHING to base your moves on except what others have done. I even struggle (although I see the merit) to allow pause requests in the forum. What if someone has two centers left and needs a pause for a week? That would likely make other people more likely to attack him so they don't have to pause.

Anyone looking to join the game should be able to look at the moves and analyze that he needs to help stop (although it is impossible) Egypt. But that's what gunboat is about - someone not able to do that is supposed to lose.

And if you ever try to communicate in one of my gunboats, I will blatantly deny any request you make, and I will avoid you in all of my future games.

I am not chatting with anyone. I did not send a request or anything. I was commenting that Egypt is being a little less than ethical. Waiting five years through NMRs and CDs to get a win is a bit shady.

bartdogg is arguably cheating. But violating only 1.

Why shouldn't we have somewhere to go for gboats that are draws but people don't have the etiquette to end them? They just go on until someone can't get on and they lose. That is the worst model for how to win a game ever. It should be based on skill.

First, technically Egypt is not cheating; it's just piss poor gameplay. Very, very poor gameplay. Sure it's not technically a rule that you cannot take advantage of a NMR or CD but it's a bit ridiculous. In the same way it's not technically a rule for me to message you profanities, it's just generally accepted good sportsmanship.

Second, I was not wrong to come here, I was wrong to "message" Egypt in a way. What I was apologizing for was the second part of the OP.

It's the spirit of the law versus the law. Obviously, by the spirit of the rules, Egypt is cheating. I've apologized for (perhaps though this is still debatable) breaking the code of a gunboat.

@Lando, try again. This isn't about pauses. It's about draws. Draws *are* diplomatic tools. And he is usibg common sense in that he is going for the win. Bartdogg and abgemacht are the ones who didn't use common sense when they tried to shame Egypt into drawing by chatting about an ongoing gunboat. Epic fail, dude.

I think that this kind of situation is where a mod comes in handy. As the public has no direct power over the game, there is no "legal" (for lack of a better word) reason to create a thread, or even discuss the game.

I agree with, can't believe I'm saying this, Draugnar's point, though his literary method leaves something to be desired. This is why I've apologized. And withdrew my draw vote. I don't want a draw that way.

And a shout out to abgemacht who has the power to force the draw but hasn't as he is in the game. Respect restored.

Mods will draw games if they are true stalemates. This is not one, because Greece NMRed. Egypt is just pushing for the solo, and is doing something that people have done over, and over, and over on this site. It's happened to me - one of my allies CD's and I lose as a result. It happens to everyone. You can say it's bad form (I'd agree) but the fact is that most people continue pushing over a CD because most people *have had it done to them before.*

And Lando, what on earth are you talking about, the pause button?
