Are we meta-serious about meta-gaming?
Successfully allied in Game 1 (winning); began game two (as did Ally). When I expressed a desire to consider all possible alliance options, Ally became unhappy and stabbed in Game 1 (to his eventual detriment). The question is, if we truly wanted to stop meta-gaming, would not all games be anonymous, perhaps with points displayed as a range (i.e. 550-600)? It wouldn't eliminate it, but would greatly decrease the severity? (I'm sure this isn't a new idea lol)

Ankaran Cresent
It's been forever since we played this old favorite, so I thought I would make a game. We'll be playing with the 1973 rulebook. Just so everyone is clear:

Sorry, you're right. I'm holding up the game. I'll trap Ghost's army in Portugal by moving to Spain.

I'll remind you this is allowed because I'm moving via North, not via Gascony.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

Yes, that was the American response in 76, but it is weak against my then moving back into Prussia. (thank god it isn't a leap final)
rlumley (0 DX)

I hate leap finals, but you're making all the moves that cause people to start playing leap finals...

That only wins when the World Cup is played in Europe. Since it's in Africa, you have to first move through Tun, but that can't happen since I've just parked my fleet there.

Oh wow, are we playing that you can play for other players if they don't take their turn?

THAT'S not exactly 1973. *Chuckle*.

At any rate, I'm down for it if you all are.

Well going on my Prussian rules that a reverse fleet movement isn't permitted in a retreat phase:

I'll play the back water gambit from the 79 series that won Hungry the cup that year.
Syria moves to Clyde.
Otherwise unless you know Rule Britannia counter I win.
ava2790 (232 D(S))
11 Jun 10 UTC
Nonsense, podium. I just read the 1973 rules, and the Zurich Pact convention deems that move illegal under violation of the 'corner-to-corner' rule. And, anyway, Smyrna and Clyde are pretty damn useless. Now. Unless I am not quite mistaken, F WAR-TUN is the way to go.

Pete U (293 D)

Right, so I can now leap in with a move to Baltic Sea, seeing as canals are bypassed on odd numbered turns
figlesquidge (2131 D)
11 Jun 10 UTC
haha @ the PM ava.

hmm, was so close :( Well then,
Clyde
ava2790 (232 D(S))
11 Jun 10 UTC
Ah, not Clyde again. I'm trying to move the pieces as far away from there as possible! I order the very simple F POR-MAO so as to seal off your exits on one side. If somebody could provide me supports (valid from as far as Naples, if I'm not mistaken) then we have him cornered, and ineligible to make the winning moves.
texasdeluxe (516 D(B))
11 Jun 10 UTC
If we're using the 1973 rules and the 1992 Grammatical Convention, and if my understanding of the moves so far are correct, I believe I can use Naples, Hungry and New York in a triple pincer move to secure Clyde! A very strategic position indeed!
ava2790 (232 D(S))
11 Jun 10 UTC
Interesting. That puts figle in a very tight spot indeed. Since retreats aren't allowed in the traditional sense, I don't suppose he's got any choice but to concede now...
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
11 Jun 10 UTC
That gives me the chance to make the move of Barents Sea. Defensive, sure, but rule 37 (a) means that there can't be a Turkish or Austrian move for 5 turns, which has to be good.
SteevoKun (588 D)
11 Jun 10 UTC
Unfortunately for you, A Berlin-Moscow, Sevastopol supporting.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

Not too bad, Moscow-Paris keeps it all locked down until the reinforcements stage.

I was under the impression no player could hold Holland, Belgium and Norway simultaneously while negotiating diplomatic relations! Isn't that cause for a missed turn? Forgive me if I'm wrong, my copy of the rules are very recent!
SteevoKun (588 D)
11 Jun 10 UTC
Taking advantage of the missed turn, Galicia to London
figlesquidge (2131 D)
11 Jun 10 UTC

TheGhostmaker (1545 D)

Now we are out of the Austria and Turkey limitation I shall move to Galicia. No Northern or Eastern approaches hereon.

Does anyone remember how awesome the forum (and the community in general) used to be, like a year ago?

Can Kestas make the site worse so all the new people leave? Cause that would be awesome. That's my dev request.
