I have a question.
I'm new to this game. My friends said it was really good so now i'm playing it. My only question is when you join an active game, and decide you want to leave, how do youi leave the game? I don't see any button that says leave or anything like that.

A question
Please don't flame or attack anyone else in this thread. Let's keep it happy, ok?

My friends and I have been playing on this site for many months now and we are still loving this game. Many of you have repeatedly played with each other, so hopefully this question will be relevant to some of you.

if anyone asks, the quote is 100% mine, copyrighted and invented by me, Akroma
Babak (26982 D(B))

a very good quote it is too.

@Draugnar - "Make amazing comeback (check)"

thats your problem... you think Losing is somehow making a comeback. i wish you had actually left when you claimed you would, this site would have been better without you.

i'm done with you... enough of your shit.

ps. i dont give a rat's behind about losing, like I said you could have have had a 3-way draw after eliminating me... but what does bother me, is that YOUR play in this game was indicative what what makes playing diplomacy BAD from time to time... its like an idiot who comes to play ball on the public basketball courts, then starts kicking the ball and just being an ass... and his defense is "I'm having fun - so screw the rest of you".

i'm done with you.
Centurian (3257 D)
02 Oct 09 UTC
Hahahahahaha. Got a problem with you I should avoid joining anon games? Doesn't that sound a little unreasonable?

Also, didnt this come up in another thread where Babak and Draugnar were discussing it but Babak didn't know it was Draugnar?

Now I want to see a game with Babak and Draugnar as Italy/Austria... :P
Babak (26982 D(B))
02 Oct 09 UTC
yup... he was playing it up as if he had just 'figured it out' because he was watching gunboat games... and that we should stop talking about it because the russian player might show up.

it was rich.
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
02 Oct 09 UTC
I don´t buy that too on the other thread, but was guessing Draugnar was the German or the Austrian player.
By the way, someone have ever seen Austria win in a gunboat?
Troodonte (3379 D)
02 Oct 09 UTC
Well... for me, worse than playing badly like he did (which I won't discuss because I'm not that experienced) is the fact that he came up on that thread saying that he watched anonymous games because he likes to follow them...

And the argument that you couldn't say that Russia was you Draugnar, because is illegal to talk about that, is bad... after all you had 2 other options: shut up and swallow or tell everything... but you had to lie, keep the advantage of being the only one who knew about other players in the game....and,... in the end... make you look like a fool!!!

having spent quite a few hours away from the computer, I do think I owe the forum and the community an apology for my outbursts of profanity. As you can all imagine, I was quite upset by the fact that this abhorant play that I was planning on flogging for several days was made by none other than Dragnar...

first off - it should be clear that the loss does not upset me, hell, i lose plenty of games... but the REALLY bad play was what got me all worked up... i really wanted to put a thread together where I and other respected vets in the community could use this game as an example to the newer players of this game on why such play is bad, and how one can improve their results by noting where the board stands... this high-minded "teaching moment" as I saw it, came crashing down when I realized who the perpetrator was... it certainly did not help that we all had a public diplofool-like beef with Draugnar about a month ago, and on top of that he was the one who in an earlier thread talked so intelligently about the Russian players bad moves.

I was most hurt by the fact that I had started to show him some ill-deserved respect just about two days ago.

anyways, my apology is not to Draugnar, that is clear by now... but to the rest of you for having read my profanity... and to the newbies, for not having made this the 'teaching moment' i wish it had become.

sorry for blowing up.

Draugnar (0 DX)

No, it was gunboat, but he brought his frustration to the forum and refuses to accept that not everyone is motivated for the win after they have been decimated. Sometime revenge is the best motivation. It's called suiciding to make certain your "in your face" enemy(s) can't win.

All I'm gunna say is that in my opinion WTA is WINNER Take All. 2nd place is the same as losing or being eliminated.

Babak: I am not sure about your motives here. If you just wanted to vent your anger and make it publicly known that you hate Draugnar and players whose quality you deem to be lower than yours then you did well. If you wanted to improve Draugnar‘s level of play and inspire him I think you failed.

Draugnar: I was pleasantly surprised to see your very clever remarks in a thread the other day – you must know you have a reputation here. You said you were tired of people hating you and it is obvious that you can communicate without resorting to name-calling. Your style of play is your choice and how you respond to people is your choice, too, but both have consequences.
Gallando (255 D)
03 Oct 09 UTC
Babak: stop crying all over the forum over the lost chance. Why on earth should you expect other players to play as you want? And how can you expect anybody you've contributed to almost destroy to help you later? I don't care the type of game, Draugnar is free to ruin your game if you ruined his, ITS PART OF THE GAME, GET OVER IT. Your posts here describe you as immature. I've seen all the game moves and Draugnar played well, it's very hard to do what he did, who cares about you not winning. Quit insulting, you're nobody to do that.
Gallando (255 D)

Babak said: "its like an idiot who comes to play ball on the public basketball courts, then starts kicking the ball and just being an ass... and his defense is I'm having fun - so screw the rest of you"

WRONG, he isn't cheating, he plays by the rules. He preferred France to win over the people that almost destroyed him, it's perfectly reasonable.

Who are you to tell anybody what they must and must not do? we already have a rulebook, thanks
Akroma (967 D)
03 Oct 09 UTC
in Draugnars defence, the goal of the game IS to have fun.

however, to Draugnars shame, no one would really want to play with someone who only has fun if he can ruins someones elses fun
I think it's fun when everyone's #1 goal is to win. At least I do in Diplomacy because everyone's moves affects your outcome of the game. It seems that Babak was frustrated when he made this topic because Draugnar didn't play for himself to win.
Centurian (3257 D)
03 Oct 09 UTC
I can understand modifying your goals if you are going to die to just cause damage. But as soon as the opportunity is there to take a draw, you shouldn't pass it up for a loss. Not even pass it up for a shot at the win, but just a loss.

If no one on this site was rational, I would not play diplomacy because I would not be able to communicate or convey ideas very well.

So in conclusion, I agree with Akroma.

It's a game. Get over it Babak.
Centurian (3257 D)

You see, I have a serious problem with that argument.

Sure I wouldn't throw a fit over something like this, but on a site devoted entirely to this game, you can have strong opinions about said game.

All the WTA crackpots are hypocrites. Sure, it's a better style of play for the beginning and mid-game, but it's just lunacy to be a small country and really expect to be in the draw if you work with multiple minority countries against the one going for the win.

I've witnessed many WTA situations where the 1-2 country was really the key to stopping a solo win, but the solo guy would say, "NO WAY I"M DRAWING WITH 3+ COUNTRIES"

After a few turns, the small key country is knocked off and the game drawn.

It's ridiculous to promote WTA as "the hope" for small countries to get a result better than defeat/survive. More often than not, he will be the stop-gap, and then given the whole speech from his allies after they backfill him and kill him:

"Thanks for helping stop the solo; I tried to include you in the draw, but he wouldn't go for it. We're stalemated and it will go on forever. Sorry - no hard feelings, right?"

Hogwash. It's so great for the players that NEED the small country to trash him, but I never see these same 'great high ranking' players acknowledge the minor countries to be included in the draw or their efforts to stop the solo.

It's hypocritical. Extremely. I'm sick of WTA preaching. Yes, it's better than PPSC, but there is zero motivation for Draugnar to stop the solo here because once the solo is contained, he would be picked off.

I, for one, refuse to play the fiddle and willingly set myself up for a future stab. I'd rather die upfront and not give the 'ally' satisfaction of being clever or controlling. Screw that.

Anonymous\No Messaging Game
If one was to be playing in a Anonymous\No Messaging game, is it fair to assume that there would be no support hold\move actions with other counties as that would entail coordinating orders with another country in which there is “no messaging”, right?

Points - draws and wins
So, it seems like a win is much better than a draw, but a 17-17 draw has essentially the same point payout as a win. I had a slight idea about this. It may have been proposed before, but I am curious what people think. Whenever a pot is made, 25%(or some percent) of it is put aside as a lump sum. In a draw, that lump sum isn't paid out. In the event of a win, the lump sum goes to the winner, as well as the points per supply center or winner take all amount normally awarded.
