Games Paused?
Kestas, have you paused the games because of the password screwup? My games have been paused, so I'm just making sure this is intentional.

Draw - This ain't Sparta
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4993

We're pushing towards an effective stalemate, it would be illogical for me and Austria to turn each other and we can prevent France from winning. If France and Austria will post we can draw this.

Blockage
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5172

I am playing Italy and I have a red cross next to my name indicating that I have an order to make, and the game tab is at the top of the board with a red cross next to it. In the place where I would expect to make my orders though there is a message saying "You have no orders to make".

Is this a programming glitch?

An attractive country with 3 beautiful and rich supply centres is looking for a decent archduke, prime minister, king or at least a retired colonel who would end its civil disorder.

Rules query
In the following game, why did Germany lose Warsaw:

http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/mapstore/506/5061/4-largemap.png?nocache=4bea98

In my reading of it, Russia attacks from Livonia with 1 extra support.
Germany has a unit in Warsaw supported from Prussia. Prussia is attacked by Baltic Sea, but has support from Berlin, so why does the support Prussia -> Warsaw get cut. I thought support was only cut if the attacking unit had equal or greater strength...

In the face to face games of Diplomacy that I've played, you were able to place builds in the home centers of other countries after you've conquered the whole country. Is it different in Phpdiplomacy?

prostitutes
When do you get em? How much are you willing to pay? What services do require as a minimum? Do you ever travel to far away lands to access those of a genetic makeup that you find more attractive/cheap?

I'm honestly surprised that either Pandora or Sicarius will pay for sex workers when they are also proud shoplifters.
Jerkface (1626 D)
30 Aug 08 UTC
Maybe for them, "payment" is some recycled pizza crusts or a lecture on why they should free themselves.
Sicarius (673 D)
30 Aug 08 UTC
we dont buy prostitues. you'll have to ask her to elaborate I'm um.. not well versed on sex worker respect...

native as in american indian
Jerkface (1626 D)
30 Aug 08 UTC
I'm certainly no pro at being respectful to sex workers either since I've never actually spoken to one. Although the ones who have spoken to me have been VERY disrespectful.

I'll thank you not to misuse language so grossly. As a Native American, I do not appreciate being lumped in with so-called "american indians". I'm not being sarcastic.
Sicarius (673 D)

this pc bullshit is driving me insane man.

are you saying you're a skin? or are you saying that you were born in america, so are native to it
Jerkface (1626 D)
30 Aug 08 UTC
I don't know what a skin is. I'm not the one supporting PC terms, I simply want words that make sense. I was born in America, I am native to America (the land where my nativity occurred). Therefore, I am a Native American.
Jerkface (1626 D)
30 Aug 08 UTC
I realize that the term "Native American" was conceived by racists who wish to bless only my darker-skinned "superiors" with the honor of being born on this continent. But I reject this. I am as native as anyone else, regardless of their skin color.

french girls have a good sense of style, italians tan well, spanish girls have a certain wildness to hem i found intriguing. russians are haughty and cold...i like that too. thais have slim builds, cambodians great skin tone, vietnamase are supermodels...shrunk down to child size and Indonesians have the best bodies.
irish girls have nice accents, japanese have novel ideas about fashion and are overly impressionable, koreans are fire and ice and will bite.
ah i like 'em all

Archonix (246 D)
30 Aug 08 UTC
The difference between Sicarius and you Jerkface is that if you follow his ancestry back millions of years all of his family will have been born on and had there culture developed on the continent. Your cultural and genetic influence was European (I'm assuming) until about 300 years or so ago.

Native American is the accepted term used to separate the genetic and cultural heritage of "American Indians" from that of European/African/Asian Americans. Although you both have equal citizenship and rights in the post-modern world his genetic and cultural history is native to America - yours is the evolution of a medley of European and colonial cultures.

You are the one who applied it as racial classification and not Sicarius. You racist son off a bitch.
Archonix (246 D)

That last line was mocking the argument if the tone was unclear.
trim101 (363 D)

how does a thread on prostitutes get turned into a argument about race/racism i think people should lighten up and i love your view sean.
Wolfyboy (100 D)
30 Aug 08 UTC
Just nitpicking here Archonix, but it's not really "million of years back". Native Americans were homo-sepians (spelling?) who crossed the pacific from Asia to North Amercia on that solid ice bridge which forms at winter (Not sure what the english term for that).
So, they are only native to America since some 20000 years or so.
trim101 (363 D)
30 Aug 08 UTC
but that is a hell of a lot longer than the 400/500 years ago that americans/europeans have been there.
Archonix (246 D)
30 Aug 08 UTC
Realisticly though - the British and French were both in the new world since Elizibethan times (About 400 years ago). 'Real' waves of immigration didn't happen until a couple hundred years later. The majority of the current population's ancestors have immigrated within the past 200 years. A Spanish influx did occur heavily before that, but being in the south I assume that doesn't really count towards our conversation :P

Was the ice bridge 20,000 years ago? I can't remember exactly when myself so you're probably completely right. My point still stands as trim said though.

But honestly, Native American is more appropriate than American Indian. Being that American Indian was applied when it was realized that the Indians they found weren't actually from India and had no connection to India. It simply makes no sense to label them Indian in any way. The only wholly appropriate terms would probably be to label each individual tribe differently.
WolfsBite (100 D)
30 Aug 08 UTC
Exactly, just another reason to reffer them as natives, is that there are other American Indians and they are really from India..
trim101 (363 D)
30 Aug 08 UTC
i think they should rename "native americans" american and rename everyone ese who calls themselves american, immigrant americans.that would be far more accurate.

I'm glad that there are in fact reasonable people here.

thanks for not all being douchebags

20,000? I thought it was 50,000.
idk that particular date is always in flux, cant really be trusted.

but either way they were here thousands and thousands and thousands of lifetimes before say, the egyptians rose, or the greeks or the romans or anything.

the earliest history is still way after, so it's like they've always been here
trim101 (363 D)
31 Aug 08 UTC
and that should be properly acknowledged, they should have the main name (if you see what im trying to say).
Pandora (100 D)
31 Aug 08 UTC
I try to stay away from these debates. I have alot of native in me, but I wasnt raised in that culture, so I dont really feel like I belong. sicarius was however, so he would be the one to ask on this kind of thing
Treefarn (6094 D)
31 Aug 08 UTC
Why keep using the word native, as opposed to native american? Since not everyone here is from North America, it seems a strange term to use. Any Australianians on the site think you are an aboriginal, and any Antarcticans think you are a penguin.
Treefarn (6094 D)
31 Aug 08 UTC
its your call, but if you want to help clarify your ancestry by objection to the term 'indian', then calling yourself a 'native' does little to clear it up.
Jerkface (1626 D)
31 Aug 08 UTC
Sorry I missed out on some of the more recent developments of this discussion. But my point is essentially that one's ancestry should not matter much beyond a mere curiousity. My ancestors became Americans a few generations back and I am American. If my ancestors had become Americans a few HUNDRED generations back, I don't believe that would make me a few hundred times more American. Basically, those who wish to discriminate between Native Americans whose ancestors became americans hundreds of generations ago and Native Americans whose ancestors became Americans a couple of generations ago are the racists of our day and I disagree with them. Therefore, my claim to Native American-ness is equal to the claim of anyone else who shares nativity on this continent.

I also happen to disagree with those who use the term "American" to mean "US American." Leave it to a bunch of selfish colonists to come up with a country name as crappy as the United States of America. A good alternative then, for those who wish to talk about their nationality, is to refer to themselves as "US Americans". I think this is what our contemporaries in Europe and elsewhere do to refer to people from the USA. Is that right?

Anyway, I still think that it's backwards and downright conservative to keep trying to artificially distinguish between Native Americans and Native Americans. Why can't we all just be Americans (or US Americans)?
Fidobot (100 D)
31 Aug 08 UTC
Maybe we should get back to the prostitutes and start a new thread about the debate of "Native" Americans.

Lost Moves
I have seen this sort of thing posted before, but my moves in http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4883 seemed to get converted to all holds. I knoiw there is no way to go back and verify. I am only saying that I had just reviewed my moves, after getting a confirmation message from an ally, and I was the last to Finalize my moves. The only thing I can think of is that I use two computers from two different IP addresses to log in.

I am looking forward to this very much. I hope that those who start will be able to get through a whole season...

One point though: baby-sitting, do we have any rules for this (other than conflict of interest issues) or do we just leave it up to the individuals concerned?

All three surviving powers have agreed to a draw (France, Turkey, England).

In theory, both Turkey and France should also be posting here, but in case they don't (France in particular is stupid), look at the last few turns of the game, we've all agreed to the draw.

Definition of 'Left' Game
What is the logic to determine 'left' games? Knowing I was going on vacation, I had stopped entering games. However one kept going, and I have 1 supply center left when I left for vacation. My country went into CD and someone took it over. Yet I don't have any 'left' games. Why is that?
