Poetry opportunities..?
There used to be great organizations that worked through my school for poetry in youth, but now that I actually have an appreciation for poetry it seems like there aren't as many opportunities to perform or compete with poems.
Is anyone aware of prominent high school poetry organizations?

Is this game getting less popular?
I remember using this site years ago and I felt I could always find games to join, or if I made a game it would fill up in a couple of days at most.

Is there another site that people are using to play? It still seems like this one is the best at least from my quick google.

Must See Movie Reccomendations
So I like movies a lot and one of my goals in life is to watch every movie that is worth watching. I've seen most of AFIs top 100 and I have a to-watch list that is 168 films and counting. As such, I was curious if anyone here has some must-see movies that I may not know about.

Grumbledook mentions Sam Peckinpah.. I like his only war movie, The Iron Cross as well as The Wild Bunch & he also mentioned a couple of Hitchcock's movies, but not the one I really like, the title of which I've forgotten but it's plot is that of a man falsely suspected of being a murderer, he knows the real murderer, who strangles ladies & wears a tiepin..it has a marvelous comic sub plot about the police detective whose wife is doing a French cuisine cooking course & there is a hilarious dinner scene.
I also agree that Blue Velvet is a classic film. Dennis Hopper has a great role & the young male actor in that is also in Dune along with Sting.
Time Bandits is also a very good movie, imho. For classic "camp" comedy / rock musical ?... Rocky Horror Picture Show
I like The Who's Quadrophenia much more than Pinball Wizard.
.I'd mentioned Dr Stragelove by Kubrick..of course there is his 2001 A Space Oddysey but also A Clockwork Orange I think deserves a mention.
Natural Born Killers..great performance in a small role by Rodney Dangerfield.

I second the suggestions of Apocalypse Now & Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas..but I'd suggest that if you like the movie Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas..then read the novel ..it's a cracker.

Vash, why do I need to stop recommending Big Trouble in Little China? It's great.

There's also the Rock Hudson & Doris Day comedies..Pillow Talk.
I like Elvis Presley's "Speedway" simply because of the glimpse of 1960's NASCAR racing.
There was an incredible motorcycle racing movie I once saw, based on GP motorbike racing in the late 1960's maybe early 1970's..in colour. Based on a low budget privateer rider. I'd love to know it's title. Steve McQueen's Le Man's is another good car racing movie, imho.

Other motorcycle movies..the wild ones, easy rider & stone

MajorMitchell, I think that Hitchcock movie you are thinking of is Frenzy. I also like Strangers on a Train.

Not Hitchcock, but the movie Blowup with David Hemmings and Vanessa Redgrave is also good if you like those mid 60s murder mysteries.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is one of my favorite books. The movie was good too, but as usual not as good as the book.

What Happened to Monday is a really good movie about septuplets that are born in a future society where there is a one child policy due to overpopulation and other bad stuff.
It involves a huge moral dilemma and leaves you asking yourself what's right and what's wrong, would definitely recommend!
(I think it's a Netflix original)

it's been said several times, but John Carpenter's The Thing.

It's an amazing sci-fi movie, that's better than most of our modern crap, with only practical effects. the story is awesome too

For starters, go with my favorite John Carpenter movie 'They Live.' Rowdy Roddy Piper's performance is an unmatched tour de force in a masterpiece of socio-political commentary mixed with action and adventure. The fight scene alone is worth the price of admission, and you'll know which one I mean when you see it. Absolutely none of that is sarcasm, by the way.

'The Black Hole' by Disney (who disowned the movie for a time, so take that for what it's worth), was made to compete with Star Wars back in the late 70's. It didn't come close and has its faults, to be sure, and the age definitely shows. But it's a dark and moody sci-fi flick that also is pretty fun. Plus there's an added bonus of getting choked up over the fate of a robot.

If you like horror, comedy, mobsters, and vampires, and ever wondered if it were possible to have all these things combined on one screen, then 'Innocent Blood' is totally worth checking out. You'll not see better scenery chewing out of Robert Loggia while Don Rickles plays straight man. I can't even make that up.

Now if 'Innocent Blood' isn't enough of a bizarre bouillabaisse of movie ingredients for you, might I suggest 'Versus.' A Japanese film combining samurai, ninjas, wizards, Yakuza, zombies, cops, destiny, portals, wire-fu, and past lives, it has to be seen to be believed. It takes itself seriously and revels in schlock in equal measure.

As my good friend grumbledook once described as the most "Wisconsiney movie ever made," you should without a doubt treat yourself the documentary 'American Movie.' Seriously, I could do nothing else but quote this movie all day, man. It's totally cathartic, man. If you want to see what it's like for an independent filmmaker to try and ply his trade in the most poignant and hilarious way possible, then 'American Movie' is it. You will never pronounce the word "coven" the same ever again.

If you can get your hands on it, 'The General' starring Brendan Gleeson is about the life and times of real life Irish criminal Martin Cahill. It follows historical events more or less accurately, and overall the film is quite good. Sometimes the Irish accents can make the dialog hard to follow, but don't let that dissuade you. There's a black & white version as well as color, and I like the b&w better for it.

That's my small list for now.

Music major?
I've considered pursuing a music major.. is the outcome worth the cost? It seems like the stereotype for music majors is that there's no real future.

The Arab Spring was a horrible failure
Can you name any countries that benefitted from the Arab Spring? Libya is literally a slave-state, Egyptians overthrew one leader only to overthrow the next, Iranian arab spring failed, Syria is a bloodbath. Is there a single positive that came from this movement?

Why no love for Sum of Squares scoring?
Personally, I'm not a big fan of Draw Size scoring, because it rewards the power that hung on with one dot the same as the 17 SC power that was a hair away from the solo.

What I've noticed is that almost every new game is Draw Size Scoring. Is that just because it's the default option or are players here just not fond of it.

The Paris Uprising of 1832 was a horrible failure
Can you name any characters that benefited from the Paris Uprising of 1832? Éponine is literally and figuratively heartbroken, Jean Valjean overcame Javert only to die of old age in the next bloody act. Is there a single positive that came from this musical?

Who Are The Real Dinosaurs In Congress?
Republicans do a better job of promoting younger members, in part because they limit, to six years, the length of time a member can be chairman or chairwoman of a committee. Democrats do not impose term limits on committee leaders or so-called ranking members, the top slot for lawmakers who are in the minority.
