Rival/hatred game variant
I'd like to play a game mode where each player is secretly given a unique rival (so no two players share a rival), and the only players counted at the end of the draw are those who have both survived and eliminated their rival. A solo doesn't need to eliminate their rival and rivals aren't necessarily symmetrical.

Unknown Player in Anonymous Private Game
I'm completely new to Diplomacy and this website. I made a private game and explained to my friends how to join my private match. Though only 2 people say they've joined, I have 3 anonymous players other than myself registered. Is it possible one of them joined twice? I know by the time stamps that it was one of the first two players who joined the game, the times are only a minute apart, and I am wondering if the small time frame is just a player joining twice.

##GM: (I read through some pages of the previous sim, but I still don't fully understand the system..)
I presume our colonists will be able to get to work when we land? We allocate some number of them to certain tasks each phase?

Wood: Do we need to provide them with axes?
Food: Apparently fishing is a thing. How much food can a fisherman gather on average? Do they have their rods at the ready? Do we need nets?
After we build a farm, we can harvest at a better food/colonist ratio.

Stone: Requires Mine, or any mountain will do?

Iron/Silver/Gold: Requires Mine on a discovered resource vein.

What's the ATK/DEF of our Soldiers?

Proposal 1.0 :
¤Spend 100 Silver to buy wool
¤Spend 100 Silver to buy Spices
¤Spend 400 Gold to buy mining kit
¤Hire Patrick Killian and allow him to bring his son. Agree to pay him 10 silver per phase or better based on quality of work.

Proposal 1.1: Hire Nain Rouge.

Proposal 1.2:
* Spend 200 gold to purchase a Farming Kit.
* Spend 400 gold to purchase a Mining Kit.
* Spend 100 silver on Wool (if not done via Proposal 1.0).
* Hire Lieutenant Webster.
* Establish our new land as New webDipia.

---

Notes 1.0 and 1.2 have a repeat involved so I think an amendment is called for to combine/comprimise the two. 1.1 is a non starter.

AMENDED 1.0 and 1.2

##Proposal 1.2.1:
* Spend 200 gold to purchase a Farming Kit.
* Spend 400 gold to purchase a Mining Kit.
* Spend 100 silver on Wool
* Hire Lieutenant Webster.
* Establish our new land as Byronia
¤Spend 100 Silver to buy Spices

Admiral Augusta would be an excellent addition to the crew. His experience will be of great value and it is known the King would appreciate his contribution. I have heard he is also very adept at keeping soldiers motivated.
On the other hand, Lieutenant Webster has an open mind which is convenient when establishing a new colony. Things do not always go according to plan.
I would be fine with either, not both, but for now I ##vote Admiral.

It should be out of the question that Father Abba joins us on this expedition. Faith facilitates excellent motivation for the common man and his experience even allows him to provide tuition to our civilians. Putting a single woman on a ship with 310 men might lead to problems. ##vote Father, and I will actively oppose including Sister Townsend on our voyage.

((After browsing through the first 30 pages of the previous sim, I still couldn’t find the cost of buildings so I’m just going to guess Foreman Killian is worth it. I can easily be swayed to the Professor or Doctor.))
Foreman Killian supports exactly what we should be doing in our first few months on the island; focusing on erecting structures that increase our chances of survival and improve the quality of living. Under his supervision the mines will surely thrive and more materials means more prospect for growth. ##vote Foreman

Thanks to the gracious supplies of our Majesty, we will be able to create a beautiful colony on V’dipia. To honour his gifts, we should name our settlement ##vote Byronia.

((random other thoughts:
-I agree with Bosox that Slaves are great value for money, as they don’t pay taxes to the crown. As long as our morale is high, I’m fine with putting some to work. There’s no rush on that though, I think. As bb said, we can capture them for ‘free’.
-Disagree with Bo on Mercenaries until I learn more about Soldiers; I think we can get the same value from Soldiers at only 10 Gold + 20 Food per phase, which is much cheaper.
-Agree with Bo on Frigates! Great value as they don’t require upkeep.
-Mining Kit and Forming Kit seem like great investments. I’d even support buying 2 Mining Kits immediately.
-GM might ‘insist’ on walls straight away, as he did in previous sim..
-Prostitutes are great for increasing morale, though I might be biased. Not necessary right now.
-Don’t know what Spices or Wool do.
-Don’t think Row Boat is worth it right now
-Definitely don’t need cannons yet.))

Our Botanist is twisted and corrupt, ladies and gentlemen. How did you derive that we should name our land Byronia by blending amendments 1.0 and 1.2?

We should not offer Killian the idea that he could get paid more than he asked until we actually see the quality of his work.

I am against wasting our time filling slots with conservatives, deplorables and people likely to challenge our authority. The admiral sounds like he has violent tendencies towards subordinates. I am against adding him.

I am against adding Father Julian Abba because his faith and its tenants sound like more of the same empty crap we have suffered through all our lives. We are a scientific council that will be slogged down by religipus doctrine if we allow this. For example suppose we make discoveries in the new world but we are forced to withhold them from publishing because they go against the faith. Will Father Julian insist we focus on converting Natives and force our council to adopt bigoted policy in the name of God.

Frankly councillors I dont believe in this faith. Nor in God period. I believe in fact, in research, and that holy people are typically just worthless charlatans.

##No to the Admiral
##No to the Father Julian character
##No to the Nun also even if she is progressive.

I will be around for more discussion later. As of right now, my trust in the Botanist is at an all time low, and that is disappointing. I assumed I would be working hand in hand with our Botanist given my exclusive knowledge of the land we are traveling to, but it seems he has no interest in working with anyone without casually inserting his own plans into our collective agenda.

Kench (1169 D)

Greetings, fellow councillors! Kenneth Ethelred Alistair de Champignon at your service, though these days most people just call me Kench. Though I am well-spoken and highborn - indeed, once of French aristocracy - I have eschewed the privilege of my forebears in favour of a life of dedicated study and exploration of worlds both known and unknown - physical, mental and ephemeral. I view this adventure as an opportunity to strike out, to seize the opportunities of a new world and to shake off the boredom of a sedentary life. I fully believe that our King has sent on this voyage, not just to discover new places, but to discover an entirely new way of life and fully expect that he will support us, even as we adapt to - and, indeed, adapt - our new surroundings. My priorities will be our long term survival through the embracing of new thoughts, ideas and theories, in order that they might complement and perhaps improve the precepts that we already hold dear to us. Do not be afraid, friends! V’dipia is but the beginning of something far more meaningful and exciting than we could possibly conceive of…

To tackle, briefly, some of our immediate practical issues: I must request that we structure proposals in the way that our King has always done before us. Bullet points within a single proposal allow no room to agree with one part but not the other. I truly believe this will help us clarify our ideas going forward.

Regarding our specialists, I fully support the idea of taking on Lieutenant Webster and Sister Townsend. These two are described with the sort of mindset that I believe will be of significant value to us in V’dipia. I also support taking on Patrick Killian - without a mason or geologist, we will need all the help we can get in order to mine the resources we need.

I am in strong agreement with much of what Cllr Bo has said - in particular his comment about Frigates being a far better investment than mercenaries. However, part of the importance of frigates would be in protecting us for the journey to V’dipia - if we want to buy them, they need to be prioritised now, not once we land. That being the case:

Proposal 1.0 :
1.0.1 Spend 100 Silver to buy wool ##Vote Nay
1.0.2 Spend 100 Silver to buy Spices ##Vote Yay
1.0.3 Spend 400 Gold to buy mining kit ##Vote Nay
1.0.4 Hire Patrick Killian and allow him to bring his son. Agree to pay him 10 silver per phase ##Vote Yay

Having only just seen the recent comments from our botanist and colonel, I appreciate there may now be some crossover in proposals and suggest that we pick a structure and stick to it. I am also less than enthused by his apparent wish to sneakily adapt another Councillor's proposal in the editing phase. This is poor show indeed...
Kench (1169 D)
15 Sep 17 UTC

Count Carsálé, while, as a man of science and learning, I share your distaste for blind faith, as a man of boundless curiosity and a thirst for learning, I cannot agree with your outright disparagement of everything either Sister Townsend or Father Julian have to offer. I am certain there are things we can learn from them.

Equally, do you not agree that, given that we will be creating significant corruption in our colony once your brothel is built (which I am in favour of, don't get me wrong) it would be sensible to mitigate that by including someone in our group who can reduce it?
Kench (1169 D)
15 Sep 17 UTC
@Brain It may look like minutiae, but we only have 900 silver to play with - we do not want to get caught out voting for things we do not have a budget for.

It strikes me that the first question is whether or not to buy a frigate before we leave port. I suggest that we consider the past proposals void, and then we separate them out into two proposals: one with a budget that includes buying the frigate, the other without. And I suggest that you make sure that the vote for a new name is in a separate third proposal, and the specialists in a fourth. That should make it easier to understand.
brainbomb (290 D)
15 Sep 17 UTC
The problem is you are voting nay on specific items within proposals. We arent following a structure that the charter can be discerned.

A proposal needs to have either a yes or a no. The yes is to ALL items or its a nay.
If you want to Amend a proposal simply make it a new proposal.

Yes my friend, I admit its a chore but we have to submit a discernable organized charter at phase end for our proposals to take effect. We cant just dump a slurry of votes and peicemeal a bunch of yays and nays from multiple councillors within props.

I will be gracious and try to keep this organized. Im very good at organizing seeds, plants, and labelling them. Surely I can also perform the task of trying to keep up with a flight of ideas from excited councillors and help focus your specific desires into an easy to read prop for you. I promise I wont edit anyone elses proposals.

Although I am quite concerned at the notion of being called corrupt when the issue was whether to name our colony after the king who is literally financing us and giving us our means to survive - versus naming ourselves arbitrarily webdippia simply because the Native councillor wants us too.
Claesar (4660 D)
15 Sep 17 UTC
If I understand the Frigate correctly, it will protect the Resupplies. And our Capital. No need to buy it straight away. I think our initial money is better spent on economy.
Kench (1169 D)
15 Sep 17 UTC
I wouldn't say that we are arbitrarily voting for New Webdippia. My vote was in line with his because I believe that naming it New Webdippia better fits my vision of how we should treat our new world, as I think I've expressed.
Kench (1169 D)
15 Sep 17 UTC
@Count Claesar: the description of the Frigate is the following:

1 Frigate: 800 Gold , 800 Silver (Frigate will be manned by 50 of the King’s sailors, and will protect the ships *on journey to the New World*, and after landing will stay to protect the colony.)

To me that says we need to buy it now, for our journey out there, after which they become standard soldiers. We won't have the option of buying things from this market place once we are out in V'dipia.

Maybe we should ask for clarification? ##CAPTRick, can you comment?

Thank you, Brain, for that helpful enumeration of our proposals. With your many years of sorting and labelling all manner of plant life, I can see that this task is well suited to you and would be happy for you to continue with it.

I am assuming that a proposer is assumed to vote Yay on his/her proposal. As is the seconder. Meaning that if a proposal is seconded it automatically has two Yay votes cast for it? Whatever the case:

[Suggestion] Alternate winning conditions
vDiplomacy has a way to set up "alternate winning conditions", e.g. to customize how many turns are played and/or how many SCs need to be conquered before a winner is declared. For example, we can have a game of Classic running for 14 turns (Fall 1907).
