Remove Discussion phase on the forum as a variant
The reason I want a forum without the discussion is because we already have a lot of threads, most being about steephies company, and punching shit, and I find the extra time it takes to mute them all a bit excessive.

Liberals are even worse than conservatives
The left should be focused on abolishing nationhood and class. Not microaggressions and compromises like minimum wage.

I move a fleet from Arctic Ocean into Nunavut. Can I then move from Nunavut to Manitoba. (There doesn't appear to be any coastal restrictions in Nunavut but I wanted to be sure before I committed to the move - Thanks

How to start the game without it canceling
So I've been waiting for five days with six players to start a game, and as soon as it starts, I refresh and it says it's been canceled. Says I did not reach the limit of seven players. How do we actually start playing, after the waiting period is over?

Question about moves in game - Fall of the American Empire IV
Sorry for being a newbie, but as a fan of Diplomacy, I was really happy to find this site. My questions about movement - Is there an app or software so you can set up these variant maps locally and model moves/situations? Immediate question for my current game: On the Fall of the American Empire IV map, can I move a fleet from Manawut to Ungawa?

I'm reluctant to accuse anyone of multi-account shenanigans or outside communication, but something seems a bit amiss in this game. It's full gunboat, no messaging at all, but somehow one player just convoyed another player's army across the North Sea.That's a hell of a guess.

Civil Disorder?
What does it mean when a player goes into civil disorder? Obviously happens when they don't play a turn, but does anything happen or is it just to notify the group that the player missed a turn?

Second Opinion on company name
Hey guys,
My company is called Broad Expert and someone recently asked me if a native English speaker would initially associate Broad with 'wide' in a literal sense, rather than the intended association with a broad expertise. The question of whether the name is proper use of English was also brought up.
Thoughts?

"This tournament shall be played exclusively on the France vs Austria map, as that is the most balanced 1v1 variant on webDip."

Bullshit. Also the group stage tiebreakers are redundant.
I'm in btw. But i know my rank on elo.

I much prefer the Germany versus Italy myself, but nevertheless this sounds fun.

WRT Group Stage tiebreaks, it's possible for two people to be level on points but have a win and draw between them meaning head to head matters.
captainmeme (1723 DMod)
10 May 17 UTC
Also @Zultar come on, it's not that much of a commitment. You'll only have to play for the group stage anyway.
ghug (5068 D(B))
10 May 17 UTC
It's the number of Austria wins in head to head that's irrelevant, Jeff. You can't have more Austria wins in a two game set if that set was tied. If the first tiebreaker fails to break the tie, it'll always go to the third.
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)
10 May 17 UTC
I think in a 3 way tie it is possible for 1 player to have 2 Austria wins and the other two to each have 1 Austria win.

Could we have more pause time? This could potentially go on for a long time (all summer?) and I don't want to be limited to just 7 days of out of town excursions for the whole summer. Maybe 7 days of pause *per stage* ?

Not to be harsh, but you could limit yourself to zero 1-v-1 tournaments instead. Priorities.

I've heard internet is available even "out of town" on these new-fangled mobile-phone devices some people have. And if you're going off-the-grid for days at a time, you might want to restrict yourself to 10-day phase games.

I have no ELO as far as I know, but I know I am good. Only if there is some open 1v1 cup, I will get the games needed to get some proper ELO in the first place. But that said, I would play if I ever got the chance to do so.

OK, to put it bluntly:

Adding an additional week of pause time to appease a single person can end up costing the 31 other people an additional week of wasted time. PER ROUND.
I am strongly against adding time. Group stages should take two weeks or so, max.
Jeff Kuta (2066 D)
10 May 17 UTC
I like HR's original proposal of 1 week of pause time. Use it judiciously like a chess clock.
cspieker (18223 D)
10 May 17 UTC
If is only going to take two weeks total then NEVERMIND!
cspieker (18223 D)

I am just in this 2-day phase game in which people *never* ready up and it is taking forever. So I figured this tournament might be like that.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
10 May 17 UTC
Regarding tiebreakers - Jeff is indeed correct that in three or higher way ties, Austria wins in head to heads do come into play.

Regarding pause time - This tournament is designed to progress significantly faster than the current large scale one, with readying up encouraged as often as possible. One week of total pause time, to be split up as much as people require, is the best solution to prevent other games hanging around waiting for games that are too far behind, whilst also allowing for people to fit this into their schedules.

I'm not sure how long the group stages will take, but this tournament should not be spanning 4-5 months. Ideally it will finish within two months at the longest.

I don't think I will qualify (playing against decent players seems to have hurt my ranking), but if 20 players better ranked then me don't want to play, count me in.
