Dip Directions?
In episode 11 of the Diplomacy Games podcast Kaner and I discussed longevity aspects and risk management of sites like webDip and vDip to ensure they grow and reduce the chances of going down (either technically speaking or perceptions of IP infringement). We said we'd create a thread for this for others to contribute. What do you reckon?

Can we get 901 back?
Is it possible to get known world 901 variant back? with or without fixing bugs? It seems enough people like it.

Taiwan is a sovereign nation. Just because people afraid of the repercussions of that statement won't say it doesn't mean it isn't true.

James, your little twist on "free birth control" is about as ignorant as it gets. Nothing about contraceptives makes sex "feel safer." Contraceptives might happen to, oh, I don't know, reduce abortions, reduce unplanned pregnancies, reduce the number of children born to impoverished and unprepared parents, reduces healthcare costs of preterm births, allows women and couples to avoid a pregnancy that follows too soon after a previous one or when their socioeconomic situation isn't right for another child, reduces pregnancies by rape, and on and on and on. 99% of sexually active women between 15-44 use a form of contraceptive. Condoms account for a significant percentage of that, but more women use birth control than condoms as contraceptive. Access to contraceptives isn't a matter of "feeling" anything, it is a matter of reproductive health and, oh, I don't know, not having kids you don't want and/or can't take care of.

so i should be forced to pay for them because....

"Condoms account for a significant percentage of that, but more women use birth control than condoms as contraceptive."

I'm not paying for male birth control either

"Access to contraceptives isn't a matter of "feeling" anything, it is a matter of reproductive health and, oh, I don't know, not having kids you don't want and/or can't take care of."

Access to

SHOULD NOT MEAN

I have to pay for.

THAT is my argument

liberal logic: make everyone pay for people's contraceptives lol. What's the stat for 99% of all women use contraceptives. That sounds like CNN/Buzzfeed-tier fake news/fake stats to me.
JamesYanik (548 D)

@bo

access to contraceptives? they can buy them. I have no problem deregulating them there. But let's not lie to ourselves, free birth control has been a maxim of the left for quite a while now, and that's what I am arguing against.

If you want to openly say right now that you're against free birth control as paid for by the taxpayer, then that's great bo

I want the world to do well, in SPITE of Trump. I'm fine with society progressing, but nationalist, populist jeers aren't a 'good' precedent i want set in politics.

JY, I am a proponent of single-payer, which would likely include things like contraceptive pharmaceuticals like pills or IUDs. I split the payment with my girlfriend for hers and it's not cheap. That said, as far as improving our healthcare system goes, covering contraceptives in particular is about as low a priority for me as it gets.

Remember back under Reagan all the times we sent in troops without needing Congressional approval? Iran-Contra ring a bell or is that ancient history?

Judging by how little Trump paid attention to his own businesses by all the lawsuits, his underlings could get away with a lot of damage before they get reined in and stopped.
JamesYanik (548 D)

ok... for one second let's remember my initial claim. Trump's economics are the most terrifying part about him for me.

i'll admit foreign policy is a BAAAD situation, but i think our domestic economy could do a swan dive under Trump, whereas our foreign policy has already been pretty disastrous

that's some studying music right there
What I'm most worried about a Trump presidency is his potential destabilizing force in the world.
Given some of his foreign policy picks, as well as the President's (oh god we can call him that now) general incompetence when it comes to foreign policy experience, I wouldn't be surprised to see his administration escalate tensions in various spots around the world, but especially with China. I recently read an article that argued that the leaders of China and the US would never choose war. However, they could stumble into one. In my opinion, the Trump administration will be clumsy enough to stumble into such a situation. His Secretary of State has talked about increased patrols in the South Chinese Sea, perhaps even cutting off access to China's artificial islands, which would seriously escalate tensions. Then there's Trump's stupidity regarding Taiwan. While I agree with Bo and Yanik that it should be recognized by China as a sovereign state, frankly it won't be. The Chinese populace would never let their government away with recognizing Taiwan. Anyways, the one China policy is vital to China's relations with the west. If Trump continues to be careless, it could be the match that sets off the entire region.
Then there's also Trump's statements regarding Iran, North Korea, Russia, Nuclear proliferation and so on which are also terrifying.

One thing we can say: after first W and now Trump we are going to retire forever the notion that business people make good leaders. Probably the two most incredibly incompetent people ever to hold the job
slypups (1889 D)

@CAPT Brad - yes, fear and Trump. Although I can't wait for one of his staff to mess up and we get our first Trump presidential "You're fired!" I'm pretty sure 10% of the voters voted for him just to experience that moment.

"we are going to retire forever the notion that business people make good leaders"

Or, more generally, the concept that "government should be run like a business." That's one I'm hoping to be gone. I was pretty iffy on it until recently.

Conservatives- Resistant to change, confident in the status quo.
Liberals- Supportive of change, dissatisfied with the status quo.
If we stopped attacking each other for a few minutes these traits could be complimentary.
